Title: owdoo
Post by: demic77 on 23 February 2013, 09:41:10 pm
Owdoo all, hoping to become a "Born again biker" shortly. Made my mind up after much deliberation that a Fazer would
be the ideal tool for me to restart biking after a 9 year layoff. Going to look at a blue fox eye model tomorrow, fingers
crossed SWMBO won't kick off too much... Any pointers much appreciated  :)

Just buy it  :)
Hope it's a good 'un, I bought my 600 foxeye last autumn not knowing much about them and I've not had a single regret since.

Welcome to the forum mate.

Buy the Fazer you won't regret it. I have been riding 9.5 years and have had 12 bikes. Three of them including the current one have been Fazers. I just keep going back. My first bike after passing my full test was a fox eye 600. A great bike

owdoo  demic77..........good choice with the fazer.....600`s are better in RED    :lol :lol .........check the usual things for wear, tyres, chain and sprockets, also if its got the standard steel exhaust downpipes check for rust, in particular at the collector box,be good if it has stainless ones  ;) ...another one to check is the inlet rubbers between engine and carbs they do crack but dont worry if there small as rubbers are very thick, service history is always nice and also ask what has been done rather than looking for the stamped book.....depending on mileage a reacent carb balance would be good.....no need to worry about valve clearences as good for at least 40,000 without problems...start the bike from cold and listen for any tapping, rattling ,rumbles, or knocks  ;) ......haggle hard at this time of year,go in low as you can always go up but you cant go down  :rolleyes

I didn't get to go and look, sorry for lack of update. My wee boy wasn't well and SWMBO was off on
a hen do so couldn't really drag him out all the way to Bradford. I'll have a gander weekend after next
if it's still there. Made my mind up on the fazer 6 as the bike for me though, I'll def be having one :-)

Were you after tips on the right bike or tips on how to break the good news to SWMBO ?

I found lots of subtle mentions and outright begging worked. She's not happy but when are they ever ? She got some new cushions !!  :D

My thou is silver-grey and in spanking condition for a 30K 9 yr old bike.

my advice, buy the bike you want, give the missus a surprise, chuck the hair drier in the bath with her.

make sure it's not turned on though, lol.

Here it is, I'm chuffed to little bits. One owner from new, 16k miles, full Yam service history. Had to go for a ride despite it being freezing, first time in 9 years and I must have been riding like me nan, but I were still grinning like a self abusing ape inside me lid.  :lol

Looks lovely mate, enjoy it  8)

Not that I'm saying anything about your riding skills because I have no idea of your previous riding experience etc but maybe consider getting a lesson or two with an instructor/bike safe course, might help give you a good refresh of some skills and get your confidence back up... 9 years is a long time to just jump back on. Stay safe and hope you have a great time on your new machine

All the best,

Chris

I've been thinking of that Chris, I'll be looking at a training session of some sort when it warms up a bit. I've had bikes from being a nipper but times move on and skills decay.

Can never have too much training, if I can afford it then I'll be doing my advanced course this year.
