FZS600 Fazer / Farewell but not goodbye
« on: 23 December 2018, 08:25:42 am »
Just a note to thank you all for you fantastic help, a bit of a laugh and advice, this is one of the most active, informative sites I've discovered. I had an itch to scratch and unfortunately the Fazer had to make room for another (ahem) bike, a bigger garage would be nice. The Fazer is a fantastic bike for all round use, anybody with around £1000 to spend on a do all bike would need their head examining for not trying one. Thanks again.

FZS600 Fazer / Fork stanchion retained bush/valve thingy.
« on: 15 September 2018, 08:53:33 pm »
Hello, I stripped my forks down for a clean, re-seal and taffy up the paintwork. Just curious to know if the item fitted in the internal bore arrowed (not the split bush) on the photo is removable as I can't see any internal fastener and the stanchion end is swaged over. I wondered what needs to be done come the time the stanchions need renewal with aftermarket items.

FZS600 Fazer / Exhaust identity
« on: 11 September 2018, 05:33:18 pm »
This'll be a standard pub quiz question. Can anyone identify the makers of these exhausts. There is a standard silencer on and it's blowing a bit, the previous owner put some exhaust wrap around the silencer front pipe section for the MOT. If I need to get a new silencer I'd prefer to match it to the front pipes if there's no decent original Yamaha ones around.

FZS600 Fazer / Centre stand or not?
« on: 02 September 2018, 07:32:25 pm »
One of the last jobs I want to sort out on my recently bought Fazer 600 is the lack of centre stand, but before doing a search I found the mounting lugs have been chopped off. The repair will need some bracketry welding on from an uncomfortable position or possibly the bike part stripped/drained then dropped on it's side.
Question is, is it worth it? I've managed over the years with only sidestands, jacks or paddock stands in the shed. Or in your experience is there some peculiarities about these bikes where I'll wish or find I need one.

FZS600 Fazer / Gravity

Hypothetical question. Would a Fazer 600 run without its fuel pump as the tank is above carb height.

FZS600 Fazer / Spark Plug colour
« on: 27 August 2018, 02:17:42 pm »
Hello, can anyone please advise if this plug colour is acceptable on my 600 Fazer, it's an NGK Ridium CR8EIX. The other plugs are similar, possibly a touch more grey on the arm. The engine was up to temperature and left ticking over for a minute before plugs were removed. I checked these as I had the carbs off to free off the seized tick over adjuster screw, ahead of balancing the carbs. I found 3 of 4 mixture screws seized and have been unable to free them after leaving them overnight in diesel and heating. The mixture screw that is free was set 1 turn out from fully in, which should be 2 turns (I think for a 99) obviously I'm unable to check the others but using a vernier they measure the same height as each other from the carb casting. The jetting is standard and the bike starts (even without choke) and runs fine but runs a bit uneven at idle 1000-1200.

FZS600 Fazer / Breather?
« on: 26 August 2018, 07:42:48 pm »
Hello, I removed the carburettors to free off a seized tick over adjuster and on strip down noticed the item marked with a green arrow, should connect somewhere or does it vents to atmosphere?

FZS600 Fazer / Floppy mirror
« on: 24 August 2018, 10:22:23 pm »
Hello, one of the mirrors has gone floppy on the outer ball socket fitting, has anyone successfully removed the glass by warming the plastic. I thought there may be a way to get the fitting secure internally.

FZS600 Fazer / Fork types
« on: 22 August 2018, 09:24:54 am »
Hello, I wondered if anyone can advise please. I bought a 1999 Fazer 600 and noticed it has the later model fork pre load adjusters fitted. The forks could have been changed for whatever reason, or someone even just added the adjusters to existing forks (if possible). Is there any way of telling the two types apart without stripping them down?

Introduction / Hello
« on: 19 August 2018, 10:35:31 pm »
Just got a 1999 600 Fazer, it's a gold one like I 1st saw 20 years ago. I'm 55 and it's my 1st bike with more than 2 pistons :D . I thought I better join up here to for the words of wisdom, but don't expect any in return.
