Yeah, the mot wasn't a problem, the Speedo can't be checked whilst stationary and it doesn't need a rev counter to be legal. The only problem was putting in the miles for MoT history, unfortunately, it had to be left blank!

Actually, yeah I did use a jet wash tho didn't think I'd got too close to the clocks, it's quite possible that that's the problem, fingers crossed it's something that simple eh 😀
Thanks for the replies chaps 👍

Just had the multi meter going round the PCB on the clocks and it is showing power going to the LCD displays, just over 5 volts, and there are various points around the circuit board that have 12+ volts going through them so I'm stumped! Just don't understand how I have a fuel gauge, fuel warning light, temp warning light and idiot lights but no rev counter, lcd  display or, seemingly, a Speedo, just bloody weird!

It's a brand new battery fitted just before going for MoT so I can't see that being a problem, I've had a look at the connector block under the left side inner fairing panel and that's seems to be fairly clean. I did read somewhere about checking the "back up" fuse is ok, which I've again checked and the fuse is ok. However, when I checked the voltage between the fuse connections, it was reading a slightly lower voltage, coming in at around 10-11 volts, don't know if that has any bearing on the issue?

Greetings everyone in Fazerland, its been a number of years since the last time I was on here, life in general taking over etc! So to my problem, recently got the old girl out of mothballs, having not ridden her for over a year :eek , gave her a wash and took for an MoT, when i got to the testing station i discovered my clocks had stopped working! The rev counter isn't working at all, the speedo didn't work when riding it, the clock and odometer aren't working either. In fact, the only thing working on there is the fuel gauge! So, my question is, anyone any ideas as to what could be the problem?
As a matter of interest, I have had the clocks apart and there are no corroded or burnt connections on the PCB, the plug into the back is clean and there does seem to be power going to the clocks, so I'm a little stumped, supposed to be going up to the Lakes this weekend coming and don't fancy guessing my speed!  :lol  Thanks in advance :)

Gilles are the ones I will probably be fitting, when I saved up the small mortgage it costs to buy them!

Footpeg rubbers are wearing out, which is one of the reasons why it'll soon be time to replace them and I might as well go for it and get a sportier, more comfortable (hopefully) ride at the same time.

How do chaps, in the near future, I'm hoping to buy some rearsets to fit on the bike, as I find the standard peg position is uncomfortable and I'm wanting something with a more sporty stance that suits my riding style.
Any one fitted them? What was the difference in riding position? Any recommendations?
Cheers :)

« on: 28 July 2013, 11:02:21 pm »
To be honest, can't see the point of turboing a Fazer, the way the bike's set up it couldn't handle much more power, so on top of all the expensive work on the engine, ideally, you would be looking at a load more expense on correcting the handling and braking as well. Surely its much better to spend the money on buying a modern sports bike, if that is,  you need to do more than 160mph in a straight line and go round corners!

Jim you retard its me stewie  :rollin :rollin :rollin

So Delkavic don't  do Gen 1 Rad only 600's :'(
and there is nowt on ebay, so anymore idea's anyone :pokefun
No way........ Stewie???? Would never have guessed it was you, apart from the fact you're the only person I've come across with no lugs on his radiator and lives in Leeds!
What you need is an engineer to have a look at your rad and see if there is anything he can do, or make do with the one you got, or paint it silver, or get some plastic rad guards and glue them on (should last for a least ten minutes!)..........................
I'm not being very helpful here am I?  ;)

A friend of mine has the same problem, only just recently bought the bike as well. Shame about his rad, rest of the bike looks good, but its let down by the plain black boring radiator, at least its in the fastest colour ;)

Heres mine, looking strangely very shiny for once, nowts changed except the bars.........fastest colour of course ;)

Really like the look of the naked one, would be interesting to see it in some different colours tho!
Think its bye bye FZ8 time soon :)

I dont know how it could either but it worked. Theres was load of really thick clumps of old chain lube in there, the bike accelerates better now as well as gear changes in 1st and 2nd being easier.  :lol
Hmmmm might be time for a quick clean up as well methinks!

Good to hear you're ok and that things seem to be working out in your favour, definitely get out on a bike as soon as possible, it will keep you sane!
On a slightly different line, you say were wearing a hi viz waistcoat or jacket? Doesn't really say much about the possible future ruling of having to wear hi viz clothing on a bike and how it will (in their eyes) cut down on motorcycle accidents, does it??

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Oil level warning light
« on: 14 May 2013, 12:29:01 pm »
Will check and make sure the level is bang on the mark, pretty sure it is tho. It used to come on briefly every now and then, which is how I became aware of this issue, but now it comes on lots, usually when the bike is just cruising and if its been ridden enthusiastically its not a problem. I check my oil everytime I go out on the bike so a lack of oil isn't a worry, its more annoying than anything else!

Ok I know its been discussed before, but at the time wasn't worried about it. Now however, my warning light is coming on all the time, which is really annoying! Oil level is ok by the way, but I need to know what to do to sort it now. Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions?
Cheers  :D

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Forks - K-Tech or R1
« on: 17 April 2013, 01:44:32 pm »
all I can say to praise K tech is even with my weight on board, my fazer is only just outclassed by sports 1000s at a trackday.  :lol
It really does make that sort of change. With decent sport touring rubber( 023, roadsmart etc) it will lean till everything scrapes out.Ultimately its the bikes weight and ground clearance which really preclude it from beating a sportsbike. But on the road I find very little is faster , and then its usually  cos I dont want to play when anything goes by.near to 140 bhp at the rear wheel with good suspension is a formidable package.I even think my gen1 is better than a vfr1200 at least up to 120.Its that good.Hence why I keep hold of it.Gixxer 1000 and S1000Rs are in another league for sure, but can their riders really use it when it count s??..me I prefer my " wolf in sheeps clothing " to being an impotent power ranger !  :lol

Stock sussies simply will by now be unserviceable on almost any gen1 bike for sale . IMO all gen1s need some sort of suspension work. I cant comment on the USD forks, but my K tech forks ,dropped through the yokes by 10mm give a very good turn in without making the bike unstable. I also believe my K tech shock is way superior to a simple rebuild of the old shock too. I have tried both .Havent tried the R1 shock so best not to comment on that. But tbh if you are fitting anything to a bike with an OE rear shock it will feel an improvement !
Just beware of spending money on cheap imitations then having to fork out later for the good stuff! I had this happen to me, bought a hagon shock cos it was cheap, only to fin dits harsh, and paid for a simple rebuild ,then found the K tech shock was so much better. It can be falso economy to buy the cheapest.  :\
So true! nothing like upseting sportsbike riders with an aged sports tourer hounding their back wheels :evil

Beowulf are very well made cans, had one on my old CBR and it was well built and sounded good, if I was going to replace my current can, I would be going for a Beowulf
