Two Years since 'nam
« on: 29 September 2012, 07:45:08 pm »
It's been two years since I did my trip of a lifetime thru Vietnam on a 100cc chinese motorbike, I celebrated today by boring the arse off everyone in the pub all afternoon, wittering on about how great it was. But for good reason.
If you've ever thought of doing spmething like this (yes, it's just like the Top Gear episode) don't hesitate, my whole trip only cost me £1500 for three weeks including the flight to Hanoi from UK and buying the bike (which I sold easily at the end of the trip, only losing $100).
This Youtube link is not my film, but it shows the same route I took, more or less.

Amazing single track motorbike ride in North Vietnam

Next trip, Arfrica. On a Honda C90.

NAM!!!

You don't know Man. You weren't there!

(not actually suggesting you weren't there -just couldn't help myself)
I can put three hundred letters in here? Really?  I can dump this much crap at the bottom of each and every post and reply that I do, and there not a stinking thing  you can do about it.  I can also put in a picture you say?  My my, aren’t we generous with the space all of a sudden.  This won’t last

Riding Honda Sonics in Vietnam is the reason I got my license here.

Really is nothing like those coast roads...

Ive got 12 days holiday left before April 1st and quite fancy something like that. Is it really hot and sticky over there?

Not really, not in the North. In fact From Nov- March the mornings can be a little nippy, however it soon warms up to about 70F or so by mid morning and is very pleasant. Further South towards Saigon it can get a little toasty during the afternoon but it's never an uncomfortable climate anywhere in the country (-monsoon season excepted -when yours truly did his trip!).
If you have 12 days, a tour of the northern mountains along the chinese border would be just right. Doing the trip solo on your own bike (and it's easy to find one in Hanoi) is well exciting but if you don't fancy that I've heard good things about the tour company that produced the video, they can provide both a bike and a guide. If you spend a day or two in Hanoi you're bound to bump into other Brits about to venture off on their own machines, I met six in one afternoon! It's a good scene.

Because I was pissed and had nothing better to do.
Maybe we should have a special emoticom to indicate posts written under the influence. Perhaps a pint glass or the scottish flag or something...
