For Sale & Wanted / FOR SALE: 2001, FZS1000, black, mint, £3k.
« on: 29 March 2021, 07:52:02 pm »

The time has come to part with my Fazer.I've had it over 10 years and it's been my favourite bike by far, I hope that I won't regret letting it go. When Mike Falcon Ivanised it, his comment was "if it's not the best Fazer that I've seen it's certainly in the top three"...

Details:

  • It's done 27500 miles,
  • was MOTd last week,
  • wears an Akrapovic can (standard also available),
  • S1000RR rear shock (standard also available),
  • has a META alarm/immobiliser with a key fob conversion,
  • full history and everything else you would expect of a pampered dry weather toy.
  • It's mechanically perfect, rides like a brand new bike and gathers positive comments everywhere it goes.
  • Located in Fareham, just outside Portsmouth.
  • Price £3k

General / First bike suggestions please
« on: 15 July 2020, 07:07:45 am »

A friend of mine is turning 50 next month and has been talking about riding since I have known him. His wife has bought him a direct access booking for his birthday. He's been driving for years so already has road sense and traffic patterns knowledge and experience. He's around 6' 4" and well built and has asked me what I would recommend for a first bike. When I ask what lines he's thinking along he wants more of a 'tourer' style, nothing too new so that's it's not precious (up to around £6k perhaps) and definitely something that's not too small given his body size. He's very comfortable sitting on my Fazer thousand but doesn't like the idea of that much bhp for a first bike. I came up with: CB1000 (SC30), CB1300SA, tiger 800, R1150R but none of them seemed to appeal to him. He suggested a Versys 650, but I know that the ER-6n it's based on is bordering on the tiny. Any other suggestions?

General / Petrol tank storage
« on: 23 February 2020, 04:43:53 pm »

The tank (and plastics) from my CBR are all changed so am going to store them in the loft until sale or accident time. I was considering putting the tank into one of the many vacuum storage bags available cheaply from DIY shops or Ebay, a good idea? Tank is empty of fuel and has two large holes, one for the filler and the other for the fuel pump and filter assembly....

General / New toy, few questions...
« on: 29 July 2019, 08:23:46 pm »

I bought this today:

Metallic blue, 14K miles, looks as though it's never seen any rain (that will change!) and starts, stops, rides and steers very sweetly indeed.

Some answers would be very much appreciated if anyone can help....?

- parts file download location? or can anyone send me a file?
- Datatool system 3 - is there a key conversion or should I just remove it?
- is there a decent forum for these?

I rode it back from north London to Portsmouth and I think very highly of it so far. It will not be replacing the Fazer 1000 however....

General / Carb service service?
« on: 15 July 2019, 01:51:01 pm »

I have let one of my NC31 CB400s stand for too long and it starts but won't stay running - a classic case of gummed carbs methinks. I have removed the carbs and am looking for someone to ultrasonically clean and service them, any recommendations please?

General / SC30 CB1000 wisdom?
« on: 02 July 2019, 12:14:04 pm »

Anyone have any knowledge of these bikes they would like to share please?

Particularly what's parts availability like these days? What to look for when considering a purchase? Any known gremlins?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / AIS removal and two water pipes
« on: 30 May 2018, 06:48:43 pm »

My Gen 1 is a little bit apart and the valve clearances have come in well within tolerance so I'm pleased. Two questions while it's open:

1 - is there any wisdom in removing the two water pipes that protrude from the valve cover? If they come out easily I'll renew them, if they are nothing but grief they can stay, it's purely a cosmetic thing for me. (Bike is absolutely mint, I am borderline obsessive regarding my vehicles.)

2 - can anyone point me towards an AIS deletion kit?

Any help appreciated thanks.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Blue spot seals
« on: 17 March 2018, 08:08:33 pm »

It's time for a brake refresh - new fluid and caliper seals. Fowlers want £145.52 for  genuine seals for the fronts alone, any recommendations for alternatives that are as good before I splash out?

For Sale & Wanted / Gen 1 for sale, mine in fact.
« on: 23 June 2017, 07:06:24 pm »

I've listed it on ebay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201963040371

As the advert says I'm not sure that this is the right path to tread but the longing for a CB1300 is strong within me and I don't have enough room to store a fourth bike, hence the Fazer is for sale. Obviously I'm not prepared to let it go cheaply, I need the space more than the money.

General / Who was at Wickham square on Boxing day?
« on: 26 December 2016, 09:03:02 pm »

EUN was parked out of the main square, sat looking all clean and looked after. It was the only Fazer in attendance that I saw...

General / Brake disc assembly recommendations anyone?
« on: 05 June 2016, 02:03:50 pm »

My Honda CB400 restoration is nearing completion but I am stuck with finding someone to re-assemble my front disks. The rotors and carriers have been drilled part and the carriers stove enamelled but I don't know who to ask for re-assembly.
This is the second attempt, the first discs went to All Bike Engineering (London), I didn't like the obviously blasted to death carriers and the buttons look suspiciously like they've been hammered home with by hand using a ball bearing - plus there's no movement in them at all, not good for semi-floaters.
I found thediscdoctor.co.uk online that look good but delve a little deeper and their reputation on the forums is shot to bits. So can anyone help? This is already an expensive part of this bike...

For Sale & Wanted / Gen 1 swing arm, silver
« on: 10 May 2016, 06:40:33 pm »

Bare arm, stripped of bearings etc ready for prep and paint. Not in too bad condition, could be fitted as-is. Free if collected from Portchester, Hampshire.
I could paint this engine silver for a fee of £50.  Stand bobbin mounts machined and welded on prior to paint for another £90.
If it doesn't sell here I'll ebay it.

For Sale & Wanted / Wolf leather jacket size 44

Middle age spread is taking its toll and this no longer fits. I don't know what it's worth - 100 including postage?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / carb problems?
« on: 07 June 2015, 07:34:02 am »

carbs have stated to leak fuel down into the recess below and yesterday the bike back fired when trying to start and sent out a small cloud of smoke from under the carbs on the right hand side. it feels to be running a little rougher than before and a bit down on power too. any ideas as to what this could be?
i hate to say it but all was fine before ivanising, then the fuel leak started as just very slightly noticeable but has grown steadily more pronounced. just coincidence i am sure. i think it's a carbs on the bench job to remedy myself...

For Sale & Wanted / fzs1000 gen 1 touring screen, unused
« on: 29 December 2014, 12:50:35 pm »

bought this on ebay, genuine yamaha tall touring screen for the gen 1. it is still in the original yamaha packaging, i removed it and the protective film in order to fit it and realised that it's the taller of the touring screens and i want the shorter one! condition is absolutely perfect, unmarked just like brand new.

£25 plus postage as that's what i paid for it.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / badge size

can anyone do me a favour and measure the diameter of the badge that sits in the middle of the headlights please?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / fuel tank rattle
« on: 19 November 2014, 01:57:39 pm »

since buying my project bike space has been tight in my garage, resulting in me have to lean the fazer over as gently as i could onto my scrap collection dustbin. yes, i dropped it - slowly. doing my best to hold it at quite a steep angle i yelled for mrs bludclot to come and help and together we saved it from going down completely.

the tank and front fairing were scratched, everything else stayed contact free. so tank and fairing came off and paint man said that he could mop the tank back to perfect. while emptying it of fuel there was rattling from inside, so i spent a frustrating hour with the sender unit out trying to coax some wretched bits out of the tank.

and do you know what they were? no prize for the correct answer, i'l post it on friday giving two days guess time.

General / wet weather bike suggestions
« on: 26 August 2014, 04:05:52 pm »

I live around 10 miles outside Portsmouth and travel in and out of the city 1 - 4 times a week. Seeing as the Fazer is too clean for use when the roads are wet or salted I take my van. I have the money for a 2nd bike again and want something that will be used for wet and salty roads. I don't want to go above £1000 - I have been looking for a cb400sf as I like the look of them but other suggestions appreciated.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / exhaust studs and oil cooler removal
« on: 13 April 2014, 04:19:04 pm »

in a masterpiece of no forward planning whatsoever instead of re-fitting my newly re-assembled forks i suddenly took a whole number of bits off the front of the bike.

one exhaust stud came out with the nut but the other 7 remain in place. i've double nutted another as seen in the picture but it doesn't want to move - any advice on how to remove the remaining studs? the far right (as pictured) stud must not snap as it's behind the frame bar and can't be drilled out!

and then there's the round thing at the bottom with a large nut on the front (i've seen it referred to on here as the oil cooler but it's not like a little radiator type oil cooler that i know) anyway is this a case of bending the tab back and unscrewing? and then will loads of bits fall out leaving me standing there staring at it in disbelief?

any help appreciated.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / akrapovic baffle
« on: 21 March 2014, 08:54:13 pm »

can anyone find or make for me an akrapovic baffle that is full bore at the output end?

i put mine in for the mot ride and really liked the stealthy lack of noise, i could hear my bike and my own thoughts! but i can't stand the pea shooter look of the exhaust with the baffle in place....

23
Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / radiator bracket bolt
« on: 20 March 2013, 07:10:30 pm »

cleaning today revealed that the bolt that attaches to the front of the engine that holds the arm that holds the radiator in place at the bottom has made a successful bid for freedom.

the part number is 95827-06012.

ebay has only 95817-06012 listings however - does anyone know whether these are the same length and pitch? failing that does anyone have one of these bolts spare or know the length and pitch so that i can replace mine please?

perhaps not the most exciting post ever.....

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / exup cables - adjuster covers?
« on: 27 January 2013, 09:12:57 pm »

i can't believe that this is the third winter that i've owned my fazer! so this is the third time that i've stripped and cleaned and lubricated the exup valve...  this year however the lower cable (at the valve end) is too loose. having read haynes and pat's page on adjustments i found that where i was expecting my cable adjustment nuts there's just plastic sheathing type covers. i can't seem to slide them away easily enough so 2 questions:

are these normally fitted?

should i simply cut them away?
