So, deterioriating back, neck and knees causing problems. The normal solution would be to buy something more upright / ergonomic. Logical, but expensive. Decided I still loved the old girl but wanted a Tracer / Versys-like riding position.
All handlebar cables sent off to the professionals and extended by four inches.
Tracer 700 handlebars (nearly four inches higher than standard)
Vstrom handguards
Longer front brake cables (roughly three inches).
Tracer clutch mount perch (allows LHS mirror to be fitted)
Tracer mirrors with extensions. Before I could only work out there was a car behind me, now I can tell what make of vehicle it is - vast improvement!
One inch lower footpegs
Probably cost around £200 in total.
Obviously gained a lot of comfort but at the expense of outright handling. Bars not fouling the screen on full tilt. Switch cables rerouted under tank and justabout stretch ok. Issues with the windblast are worse than before but might seek some radical solution such as a Madstad screen setup. Worth it? To me, yes - will be able to keep riding her for another year at least

So, finally got on top of the windblast problem with the handlebar-mounted Mephis Shades Hell Cat screen. The look doesn't really integrate but it's the only screen I've had so far that works well on this bike: should be able to do more than 200 miles now without feeling beaten up. Will add my X-creen on top to regulate any residual top-of-helmet turbulence.

Well done, glad you’ve been able to find a solution that works for you. Someone on another site was changing bikes left right and centre, in an attempt to be comfortable when riding. A set of bar risers was the answer, just cost him a lot of money to find the remedy.

@Kebab, if you do feel the need ay some point to move on from the FZS and if your inside leg is 31" or longer, I can recommend the Kawasaki Versys 1000. I have been test riding a lot of bikes lately in my search for a replacement for the FZS -
2019 - Tracer 900
2018 & 2020 - Z1000SX
2020 - VFR800
2020 - Vstrom 1000
2020 - Versys 1000
And the Versys was by far the most comfortable, followed by the Tracer. The worst was the vstrom, following by the 2020 Z1000SX (took longer to get sore bum) as the 2018 model I tested had a OEM comfort seat (making similar to the FZS, but not as confmy as my bandit 1250). And the VFR was just tiny compared to all the other bikes.

Thanks all, I suspect as we all age we may have to resort to such mods to keep riding comfortably
@ Bikerdude - despite being relatively short-of-leg, I have to admit I
was
considering moving to an early 'Cylon-eyed' Versys 1000 or a 2014-16 Vstrom 1000 before altering the old bus, but I'm hoping these mods have delayed or negated such a move. I've yet to test the new screen setup above 90 or in strong crosswinds
or indeed cover decent distances, but my initial 60 mile rideout was very positive. Have a four day, 1000 mile tour of Scotland coming up soon (barring another lockdown) will feed back findings after it.
