beautifull day here in south bucks even the sun came out  :) .....back in the garage this morning, took the downpipes off and refitted the rad, connected all pipes and filled the system, started the old girl up with no exhaust so i could clearly see where the leaks coming from and...........

THE OLD GIRL SOUNDS FANTASTIC WITH NO EXHAUST    :lol :lol :lol

as UNFAZED has already predicted its coming from the water/oil pump and draining out through a sleeved hole in the sump, ive drained the coolant and oil in readyness to whip the pump out and inspect the seals , stopping for lunch whilst everything drains...

pleased with my progress this morning but my "parcel of goodness" has arrived.......things might just slow up a bit now    ;) ......see btm piccie   :D :D :D :D

what have you got? LOTUS?

Damn good clean for a start. Bikes never been so dirty. Blow dry, then on with the ACF50 and the spray gun. This time next year itll probably be the valve clearance check

a quick update.......sump,oil strainer and large oil pipe are now off  :thumbup .......with a struggle though, laying on the cold, hard garage floor with my head wedged between bike and floor is not good  :\ ......front end is still off the bike, rear wheel is on the floor and ive winched the front of the bike up as high as i can get it without taking all of the weight off the centre stand, its workable but i think its going to be worse getting things back on......

seriously thinking about work bench, abba lift or eazyrizer now........eazyrizer is top of my list as it will lift any bike without the need for having various adapters.....already seen VNA`s excellent sky lift ....anyone got an eazyrizer ?

more struggling and swearing this morning but the pump is now off the bike  :thumbup ........next job is to split the two halves of the water pump and withdraw the shaft and inspect bearings and seals........glad its out but its been a struggle with the bike on the floor, all i can think off as a quick fix for making it easier to put back together is a series of large wooden blocks , i have a winch more than capable of lifting the whole bike which will give me room to slide the blocks under the wheels and centre stand.......not 100% sure  this is a good idea though    :rolleyes

got the pump stripped down this afternoon , cant see any major fails and the bearings are excellent ,so just looks like general wear and tear , will order a full O ring set for the pump, sump and clutch cover gasket, and O rings for the large oil pipe as one fell apart as i removed the pipe.....

Nice job Mr.Red. What mileage is on your thou?. Just wondered if this fault is mileage related, or just bad luck. I can see how the Sky Lift would have made life a lot easier for you, that's for sure.

Red, what coolant did you have in it. Strange colour on the internals of the pump.. Had you changed the coolant at some stage?

hi MR R.......bikes done about 54.000,no service history with the bike when i bought it,but think it may have had a hard life early on ,no signs of abuse on stripping down and am pretty sure its not been opened up before...think ive just been unlucky ,not seen it mentioned on here before either....

yep my nights sleep are full of abby dreams  :lol        think i`ll make some wooden blocks at work tomorrow   :thumbup

hi UNFAZED,ive had this brown tint in the coolant for a while now, searching my own posts i flushed the system through with HOLTS RAD FLUSH back in july 2017 , it cleared most of it and the header tank is still nice and clean which was the reason for the flush , was a bit surprised myself at the colour, pictures taken without any cleaning .......time to confess.....i use the same anti freeze in the bike as i do in the car    :eek ......BLUECOL UNIVERSAL ANTI FREEZE.................

I would not think the clear Bluecol U is really suitable for the Fazer or any car with an aluminum engine and radiator.

Blucol red is probably the better of the two being  Ethylene Glycol based and suitable for high performance aluminium engines

The colouring issue may be due to the previous owner having the coolant changed and using the incorrect coolant type.

What is the inside of the large pipe going into the engine like?

Red, no the long one with the drain bolt that goes directly into the pump. 2 seals on it
The one on the block suffers badly from corrosion being directly in the salt spray line.
Mine had a lot of corrosion around where the seal sits last time I had it off

nice one Steve  :thumbup .......thou rear caliper is on my list aswell, when i can find one.......

made up another wooden block today and ordered most of the seals/gaskets,spent £40 but i still need O rings for the "water pump drain pipe" and the "large oil pipe" that i had to remove to get the pump out, cant find them without spending silly money so i might just buy an assorted O ring pack and hope the right size is in there, also need an oil filter which i`ll pick up at halfords on the way home tomorrow.....

Morris fuel stabiliser in the tank. ACF50 over the delicate bits. Wire brushed and repainted the centre stand.

I'm working on the basis 'if it ain't broke, don't foc it up'  :D
