« on: 23 March 2024, 09:20:27 am »
just had a look at megazip for ignition lock, and it seems that the 02 bike which I have is unavailable but the 03 onwards is available, they have a different part number so the question is will they fit or is it just the wiring thats different. Also has anyone tried getting just the barrel replaced

I am also going to be needing a new set this summer. But I agree with grahamm that you wont notice much difference on any big name brand in dry weather, (unless you take it on a track), as I am always getting caught out in downpours or have to make a journey in the rain, then a good wet weather tyre is essential. I was thinking in terms of the avon storm as they are a british tyre and therefore would be tested in british conditions, and sensible money but I may have a look at the bridgestone T31. I currently have the metzeler m9rr . I will also have a look into michelin road 5 as it does seem to get good reviews, so it may just be which of those is the best deal at the time, and I have noticed Pirelli's seem to be a good deal at present but not had any of those for donkeys years

Looks quite tidy, I think the mileage is perhaps a little high for good money but if it were me I would put it on ebay classifieds, at £1750 and see what offers you get. Or as an auction sale starting at £1300. In my opinion its worth anywhere between £1300 to £1600. If you were prepared to wait a month or 2 when weather is more favourable you will no doubt get more interest. Good luck

most aftermarket pads wont have wear indicators. One looks a bit close to the mark and you certainly dont want it to get down to the metal, but other one looks ok. If it were me I would order a set and do it soonish

Thanks Gaz for very informative reply,, it's certainly made me think a bit more about it. I certainly wont be trying with dremmel. I have a bike breakers only 10 miles away so could always pop in if need a new leg,, if they havent got one I can get them to let me know when they get one in,, also thinking maybe there is a market here for these adjusters, as my brother is a turner/cnc so could get him to make some, only trouble being he is about 250 miles away in sunny somerset.

A bit of heat was my next option along with digging out my dremmel to cut a new slot in it,, currently keep spraying it with oil every night, will check out the Avon's also, thanks

thanks for input Robbo, I have the m9 RR on at mo, sportec,, dont recon they be much cop in the rain but I will have look at the roadtec, they could well be an option as I recon I have no more than 1500 miles left in rear. Also thanks pieEater I have had look at the link but my screw looks like a neandathol has had a go at it, not much left on it to do anything with, I think I shall have to look at it as a challenge to my engineering skills. I did speak to the dealer I got it from to see if it would come under their 30 warranty and, surprise surprise it doesnt

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / front fork adjuster screw and 190 tyres
« on: 23 August 2022, 08:09:59 pm »
picked my fzs1000 up weekend and now having to move across the forum from fzs600 to thou. 2 issues i've discovered, the left hand lower fork adjusting screw is proper mullard and seized, so has anyone tried drilling these out and what lies behind, as in will the fork oil pour out, currently soaking it every day with oil but hold out no hope. Other issue is handling not to my liking, have played with rear shock and bottom adjuster was 43 clicks out?? , so have it currently set on 10 out which improved things but still not right for me, so on checking it has rear tyre of 190, looking at specs its meant to be 180, also they are metzeler sportac. so, any ideas why someone would change to 190, as that may account for it seemingly dropping into corners. also are these tyres any good as i've never really been a fan of metzelers, will be used all year round , so whats more important to me is a good rain tyre

I dont recon you will find anything relating to a pilot bleed screw because I've never heard of one. It's called pilot air screw and if its a 98/99 ( there is one on each carb,)  screw it all the way in (counting the turns in) then set them 2 turns out, as long as you counted the full complete turn in then you will know if they were set correct to start with, although the 2 turns out is only a rough guide to get them all set equally

having listened to the 2 videos, I would say you need to get yourself a carbtune and balance them carbs, and if you think thats a clattery cam chain you need to have a listen to an old air cooled top end, then you'll realise how quiet yours is. But you can always put a screwdriver to the top end and put that to your ear and listen for any clonking

another vote for BT023, I have them as matching pair, excellent grip and have had to endure some shocking weather conditions

to stick my twopenny worth in, and its another vote for bridgestone battlax bt023. excellent in wet and dry, and good value.    https://www.bikespeeduk.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=1953     on my journey home yesterday about 80 of my 90 mile journey was in torrential rain, tyres were faultless, I have a matched pair

most popular i would say is renthal road medium, which if you click on gnashers link its no. 755. I have met a couple who have these and all say its a comfortable set up obviously bit wider than standard and a little bit higher.

you can bypass the pump to check for sure, its not essential but you'll just run out of fuel bit early, probably around quater tank left

noise sounds very much like tensioner, personally i wouldnt worry too much it will click on. also it looks like you still have original ht leads, they could be arcing which makes similar noise but you would probably notice when running, but either way get some ngk ones because they will fail soon. if you havent got your carbtune yet then get it from official website, cheaper than ebay and you know your getting a real one. http://www.carbtune.co.uk/

this is what i got last year, thought it would be worth a punt as cheap, havent looked back since, ideal for me and i had bar risers fitted as well, its not as tall as it looks and I'm about 5'9-5.10. https://www.wemoto.com/bikes/yamaha/fzs_600_fazer/98-99/picture/screen_-_touring___tall

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Carb problems or is it something more?? Fazer 600
« on: 15 January 2020, 02:55:34 pm »
sounds to me like u still have some small issues to iron out with the carbs but your main problem is quite likely to be ht caps, if u still have the originals then get some ngk ones and snip 5-10mm off the leads. another thing to check is the fuel lines, make sure the 2 breather hoses are not trapped under tank

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Bridgestone BT016 VS BT023
« on: 13 January 2020, 04:17:27 pm »
I had a bt016 on front that was down to limit and replaced with bt023, I was assuming that bt023 was better as newer tyre. I would say bt023 seems to have better grip and feels better round corners but a lot of that would be down to the fact that my old bt016 was worn. I know a lot rate the michelin but bt023 a lot cheaper and I wanted to match the bt923 I have on rear. Also I dont ride like a nutter (well very rarely anyway) so an expensive tyre would be wasted on me. I do tend to use bike all year round but not in really shit weather if I can help it

yeah i've had at least 3 bikes where i fitted k&n's and agree with washing every year. i used warm water and fairy then put light coating of thinnest oil you can get, think it was 3 in 1 oil or duck oil. I always found i had to upjet with k&n's but probably wont need to on fazer. just wondered if anyone had the pipercross as sounds impressive and gotta be better than oem,

delkevic on my 600. just right with baffle in, actually seem to ride slower so i can listen to it. tried it without baffle but gets too much on a run, and the old bill can hear coming you from miles away.
