« on: 09 May 2013, 10:01:54 pm »
Just out of interest as i'm chasing a rattle and I've done less than 20,000.

mine looked like this!  :eek

had to double check if it was water cooled or not, it looked like oil and smelt a bit like burnt caramel.

FZS600 Fazer / Daytime Running Lights - Show me yours
« on: 27 April 2013, 10:15:16 pm »
Looking at mounting some extra lights on somewhere, would like to ride daytime without headlights if possible. My short journey to work and back isn't giving the battery long enough to charge.

My original idea was these

but with them being 1.8cm wide and the lip under the headlight only being big enough for 1cm im back to the drawing board.
thinking of mounting something under the fairing or using the bolt holes the original brake lines mounted too between the forks.

so lets see what you got, where its mounted, cost etc

FZS600 Fazer / quiet when cold, rattles like mad when warm ??
« on: 20 April 2013, 12:01:30 pm »
first off yes i have searched  :)  i just get bombarded with the usual cam chain rattle when cold until warm.

i have had cam chain rattle previously but usually sorts itself or the old roll backwards in gear trick sorts it.

however i have been riding all winter this year so probably never going over 6000 revs. so the slight rattle i could hear sounded like a lose nut or washer, nothing serious or loud just annoying.  thought it may have been valve clearances because it sounded a bit tapety.

last sunday i went for a blast, bike sounded normal at first but after half a day spirited ride i noticed the rattle was much louder. now after lunch it was quiet again untill it warmed up. it had a good blast all day and tensioner didnt adjust like i'd expect.

the rattle started at around 6000 like the usual vibration you usually get but over time its been kicking in lower down the revs. now its starts around 2000 revs and is much louder but still only when warm.

bike has only done 20,000. gets ridden daily 15min to work and back and the odd weekend blast in summer.

any ideas? surley cam chain isn't worn yet, they usually last 50000 dont they?

FZS600 Fazer / Quick question, front caliper seals.
« on: 30 March 2013, 09:07:48 am »
Need to rebuild my front calipers.

Is there any difference between the cheap kits and the more expensive kits?
Any body had any issues with buying the cheaper seals?

The wemoto set is £37
http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/yamaha/fzs_600_fazer_sp/02-03/picture/rebuild_kit_full_seals_caliper_-_front/

Ebay has sets for as little as £10.50 a side

Dont see the point paying double the money for something that will do the job just as good. However, if im going to end up with leaks i'd rather do it once properly.

Thanks

FZS600 Fazer / Brake judder in the wet?
« on: 14 October 2012, 01:13:27 pm »
I was riding the other night in fairly heavy rain in a 30 zone. As I pulled up to a roundabout the last 4 or 5 meters I got what I assume was brake judder. It felt like I lost a bit of braking too and had to squeeze harder.
It only happened once and the bike was fine on the way home but its a little unnerving as I have never experienced it before. The last thing I want to do is go out on a Sunday ride and find I don't have brakes when I really need them.

Has anyone else had this before?
Anything I should be checking?

Thanks

FZS600 Fazer / What goes here? (I think fender extender)
« on: 16 July 2012, 04:54:41 pm »

I have little rubber grommets in my front fender plugging holes, circled above.
Am I right in thinking this is for a fender extender?
If so does anyone know where I might purchase such item?

All the ones I have seen are stick on or drill and rivet, which seems silly if I already have holes for one.

Thanks

For Sale & Wanted / REAR HUGGER - FZS600 '98-'91
« on: 15 July 2012, 05:42:29 pm »
Hello,

I bought this rear hugger off ebay sometime last year and it has been sitting around collecting dust so its time to sell it.
It has never been fitted to my bike as it was advertised wrong, it will not fit the 2002-2003 bike.

It has was fitted to the previous owners bike so this is not a new item but its not far off.
The previous owner had just got the bike and removed it as it was not to his taste.
There are several minor marks, so minor they dont show on the photos, and a couple of bigger marks I have shown below.

If this fit my bike I would be happy have it on there, once its on you would never notice the marks.

The only damage is here where the plastic has been squashed a little and split (its only split at the edge) this is easily cured and hidden with a suitable washer.
Tbh I would fit it with washers anyway to spread the load.

The other big mark is this which seems to be muck stuck to a bit of glue left behind by a sticker. Its hidden by the rear brake hose guide bracket thingy anyways.

As you can see I gave the hugger a good clean prior to attempting to fit it.

Here is the manufacturers website for a couple more pics and info etc.http://www.simpson-detour.co.uk/shopitem.aspx?OBJ_ID=134692&OCT_ID=9

I bought this for £55 and would like £55 for it. You are welcome to collect or I can post at extra cost to the buyer.
New this would be £75 so grab a bargain  :D

I'm happy to answer any questions.

FZS600 Fazer / HELP!! How to steal my own fazer?
« on: 26 March 2012, 04:16:28 pm »
I have an '03 600, parked next to a field where i was playing football with some mates last night.
The key must have fallen out of my pocket at some point, lost the light as we played till sun set. Tried with a torch but no luck.

I dont want to break the steering lock with force or drill/screw driver the locks if i can help it.

I need to move it, i dont think its safe where it is. I'm thinking of pushing it as far as i can, then turning it on the centre stand and pushing it as far as i can again. At least till i can chain it to something solid and its under a street light somewhere.

Does anyone think i could drag it backwards with the front locked up? or even lift the front end and roll it on the rear? With help obviously.

Going back up tonight to have a proper look, going to systematically grid search rather than random walking round.

Currently tearing the house apart for the spare!

Note to mods: This obviously cant stay on here, too useful to thieves! i will "report to moderator" when i have the bike back and it can be deleted.
