FZS600 Fazer / Temporary lack of power
« on: 19 January 2020, 12:15:05 pm »
This is from Friday.
Went to work on the bike 35 miles away, fired first time after 3 weeks and nothing unusual. It got a clean over Christmas but wasn't warmed up to dry out. Felt the exhaust was a bit noisy but seeing as I still run original pipes not too concerned.
The bike sat in the rain all day at work and it was cold, started first time but then stalled as I pulled away up the hill, restarted fine and off I went. Pulled onto the main road which is a quick acceleration due to the brow of a hill and then after 300 meters slowed for a 30 zone, all good so far.
A mile or so the 30 changes to 40 and I roll on in top gear but the bike judders and won't pull, do it a couple of times and drop a couple of gears but the same, but at a constant throttle its fine, or a very gradual increase in speed. After another couple of miles pull over and rev the bike in neutral and revs fine. I set off again and all is well, pulls fine in all gears and the exhaust note seems to have changed.
Was this a misfire, a dropped cylinder due to the cold and wet? Is there a chance that it was running like that all morning and that was the throaty noise I assumed was a holey exhaust and is it ok to run with a dropped cylinder?

FZS600 Fazer / Rear Brake Light Switch
« on: 19 September 2019, 08:50:20 pm »
So I noticed today that my brake light was constantly on. Gave a wiggle to the rear brake switch and out it went, thought I would fix it later as late for work.
Got to work and it was permanently on again so gave the mount a wiggle again and it didn't go out. Sprayed a load of WD40 as I  thought it might be sticking and pulled the rubber boot off and sprayed load in there as well. Thats when the smoke appeared!! Disconnected it for the return home.
So does it just need a good clean, the clips look reasonable, or should I just replace it? The plunger moves fine with the pedal, but if it smoking is something shorting

Also if I wanted to change the piston seals on the rear calliper, do I need to split the calliper itself, or can it be done whole?

FZS600 Fazer / Bike won't start!!
« on: 03 April 2019, 08:38:04 pm »
Went to start Monday morning and wouldn't start, had to bump start it. Assumed it was the battery but it failed to start for my return home as well.

Checked and the battery is getting charged so assumed the battery had died finally, I had resurrected about 4 months ago.
Put new battery in this evening and still won't start.
All warning light works, and when I thumb the starter I get a loud fast buzzing noise form the battery area.
Am I right in assuming that the starter solenoid has gone?

Thanks all
Nick

General / Flat Battery
« on: 29 November 2018, 08:22:13 pm »
Meant to be reasonable day tomorrow, so thought I would take the big bike! Alas a flat battery has put a stop to that. My Aldi charger won't even try to start to charge it as its so low, 1.5 volts. It has sat for about 3 months and is possibly the original battery.

Can I jump start the bike from the car or is there too many amps for the bike system?

The alternative I guess is too bump start it, but Im not to sure how to do that, can someone give me a step by step guide?  :o

FZS600 Fazer / Front Sprocket Nut
« on: 28 October 2018, 08:26:11 pm »
Its that time for new chain and sprockets, still have the originals so that includes the 9mm nut, kept an eye on it due to known problems but all was well.
Sooo ordered a new nut and locking washer from my dealer and a new 9mm nut turns up. Apparently its all up to date, but why a 9mm nut and not the 12mm nut if there are known problems.
Shall I get a 12mm nut from wemoto?

General / Goretex or leathers?
« on: 18 June 2018, 08:36:10 pm »
Off to Ireland on Thursday for a wedding.
Looking warm, talk of a heat wave,
Do I wear my goretex textile kit, which is new so never worn in the summer it has vents etc, or leathers?
With the goretex I don't need to worry about  rain showers obviously. Leathers I need to pack waterproofs
whats your advise.

Im guessing if but the one without the gas bottles you have to blow the tyre up your self, ie pump.

Are the gas bottle ones easy to use?

Trip to Ireland next month for a wedding. :)

FZS600 Fazer / % Brighter Bulbs
« on: 18 April 2018, 08:43:46 pm »
Off to a wedding in Ireland in June, and may have a couple of hours of motorway miles coming back in the dark.
Im not too bothered by my lights at night but then again I barely ride at night, not for a couple of hours any way.
So was wondering about 50,60 100% brighter bulbs.
Do they make a difference?
Are they just a straight swap or is there some fettling required due to motorbike wiring, I know its a straight swap on a car.

General / Downshift Blipping
« on: 04 September 2017, 09:49:53 pm »
I don't understand why there is a need for downshift blipping either "manually" on our bikes or automatically on varies modern bikes.
Doesn't the engine automatically raise the revs when you downshift anyway to match the bikes speed?
Can someone explain it to me please.

So the election is over, for better or for worse..

Now the Lions is hotting up, won't mention the latest result in case people don't know the score yet.

This is for those of us who enjoy the great game of rugby.

Test spots are tough to call but the lack of creativity and tries must be a worry and now addressed.

FZS600 Fazer / Am I missing something?!
« on: 04 April 2017, 07:28:29 pm »
I have just performed a coolant change and something under the tank got me confused.
I have 3 fitting ones with the isolation valve and 2 others which have a pipe loop between them over the rubber drip catcher?
I don't think this is right but as i have never had a problem fuel wise i am confused. The tank gurgles quite a bit though!
Some one explain to me if this is right.

General / Squeaky brakes
« on: 25 July 2016, 04:57:42 pm »
So i have squeaky front brakes, saw a post on the Facebook page about someone buying this goo which goes on the (i assume) back of the pads instead of copper slip.
Did a google search and one of the reasons for squeaky brakes is the vibration of the pad where its not quite touching the piston. I never knew this and is it true, have i really not applied enough copper slip to the back of the pads and that is why they squeak?

FZS600 Fazer / Tyre Size
« on: 04 June 2016, 03:28:32 pm »
I currently have bt23's front and rear. The front is a 110/70ZR17.
I can't find anywhere that has this size front in Michelin PR4's. nearest is 120.
Im looking and comparing prices etc, available for the PR3's
Anyone know why this is? My understanding is the tyre is 10m wider will it still fit.

General / Financial Ombudsman
« on: 19 May 2016, 08:45:10 pm »
 :wall :finger :2guns ggggggggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Right now thats over with.

I have made a complaint to the AA about a repair to my vehicle by Halfords Autocentre, AA approved, they took it there.
Just had the reply which says they arewashing there hands of it even going to the extent of blaming my wife and saying she choose to take it there.
So does anyone have any experience with the Financial Ombudsman as that is the next level?

General / Change of tyre manufacturer, more cornering confidence?
« on: 12 April 2016, 08:40:09 pm »
So my bridgestone bt 23s are coming to the end, this is the second set and i ran the original bt45 for a while that came with the bike.
Now i am not a fast rider but have passed my IAM so not shite either, but i do have a cornering/leaning confidence problem. Usually I'm fine with "slow in fast out" but sometimes i go in too hot as you do and freak out about leaning more i.e. scrapping the hero blobs.
I know what to do, grip the tank counter steer more, i know this is all in my head. I know a track day would help but time and money are limited.
I don't need to scrape the blobs all the time and i know that if hedge trimmer, slim or others jumped on my bike they would have it on its side no worries, but i want to be able to do it if needed without freaking.
So here's the question would a change of tyre manufacturer i.e. carcass construction tyre feel help me, or would sticking with what i know be better. And if so which tyres, not after the latest type, but a similar type to my bt23s i.e. sport touring.

Anyone have any experience with either the 100 horse power or the 125 horse power?
Needing new car and want to know if the 100hp is enough or if the 125hp really has that much more oomph.

General / Misty Pinlock Visor
« on: 05 January 2016, 08:02:32 pm »
Ok any tips.
My new helmet Shoei Gt Air comes with a pin lock visor.
All fitted fine, made a couple of adjustments with visor seal etc. But i have a continuing problem with it misting up, thought it was on the inside of the pin lock i.e. the side that faces my face but it is actually in-between the pin lock and visor. I have resealed it as per instructions but to no avail.
Are there better after market pin locks or am i missing something (probably)

Cheers
