Fazer8 / FZ8 / Starter Solenoid compatibility
« on: 25 July 2016, 01:06:18 pm »
Hi All
2010 Fazer8 14K  clicks on start button. Think it's the starter solenoid. it's been doing it for a wile now.
Anyone know if the Fazer8 solenoid is compatible with any other models. I'm trying to get a decent second hand one, but market seems limited, I thought maybe I could search under another model?
Thanks for any info

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Battery Life
« on: 27 April 2015, 05:04:55 pm »
Hi Folks, been a while since I was here.

The Fazer 8 has been in the Garage all winter resting (knackered my back so been off bikes for nearly 6 months). It's been on an Optimate all the time, but I didn't stert her up till about 3 weeks ago.
First time I just heard a "click" sound and nothing else, so "switched off then on again" (where have I heard that before) I had to do that a couple of times before she fired up. On the next 3 or 4 trips when I started her from cold, same thing happened.
Seems ok now, but I am off to France in about 4 weeks, so I was wondering if these symptoms were signs of a failing battery?
I don't really want to be stuck and unable to get off the Ferry !, but equally I don't want to waste my hard earned dosh...sooo does anyone know how long the original batteries last on average?  or is that a stupid question?
Thanks for any views, much apreciated.

General / Pheasant suicide
« on: 13 October 2013, 01:30:34 pm »
So there I am, cruising along on my Fazer8 on a nice B road, minding my own business, when a suicidal pheasant flies up from the very grassy and overgrown verge, straight in front of me. No chance to do anything except hold on tight and watch as it smashes into the fairing then over my head.  A fraction of a second either way and it would have failed in its attempt to kill itself, and no, I did not stop to pick it up and eat it as road kill.
Pity really, cos I could have put it down as the most expensive meal I have ever had, £850 damage!

Need a new fairing, headlamp, and wing-mirror, thanks very much. Maybe we should start a campaign to have a pheasant cull, or better still, make the farmers lock them all up. I had heard of this happening before but never expectd it would happen to me, I thought the odds were too long. Just shows you, still, could have been worse, had it hit my head I would have been off the bike and who knows what would have happened.

Ride safe peeps and watch out for depressed pheasants. :)

General / Hein Gericke battery optimiser deal
« on: 29 June 2013, 12:47:08 pm »
Go to the HG site to check the specs, but it seems a good one to me. £29.99 (alegedly from £49.99), BUT, when I went to local store to get one (not available on line) I got £10.00 off if I spent more than £30.00. So.....got some chain cleaner which I neded anyway, and effectively got the charger for £19.99.  Not Bad....only point to note is that mains connection is via a 2 pin plug so you either need a shaver adapter plug, or I guess you can cut the cable and put an ordinary plug on. ( It does say in instructions that mains cable can be replaced if damaged, so I guess cutting it counts as damage  :lol

Anyway, I think it seems a good charger and a good price. Check out your local store for availabilty if interested, I phoned mine first and they had plenty.

Fazer8 / FZ8 / New Tyres any suggestions?
« on: 31 March 2013, 05:29:33 pm »
I need a new set for the Fazer 8. Stock tyres are the Bridgestone 021's.  I've had bridgestones in the past and thought they were pretty hardwearing and grip seems ok, but as I need a full set I wondered what might be a good alternative. I only ride for fun and am not a particularly  fast rider, but I do like the bendies and twisties so any thoughts on a tyre with good cornering, reasonable durability and not too expensive?  Much appreciated. ;)

General / RIDE magazine Removing exhaust baffle is legal?
« on: 15 February 2013, 05:04:57 pm »

Not sure where to put this as the new site doesn’t have a “Zorst section” and now I have a Fazer8 no-one seems to visit there, so here goes.

According to RIDE Feb 2013 issue, page 82, as long as an exhaust has the E mark stamped on it then “Removing the baffle doesn’t make the exhaust illegal because the E mark is on the exhaust”

I always thought it was illegal to remove the baffle whilst using the bike on the road. Have I been wrong all this time ?  :'(

Introduction / returned to the dark side
« on: 18 November 2012, 02:56:44 pm »
Hi again folks, and special hi to anyone who remembers me.  I made a very bad mistake 18 months ago, sold my FZS1 and bought a BMW F800ST.  What a pile of poo!  No wonder BMW stands for bring my wallet, and what for I ask?, a crappy old parrallel twin with possible piston slap issues and rear wheel bearing failures, not to mention other faults. :'( Talk about a boring ride, after a few months I had definately had enough, but it took a bit longer to get the idea of another bike change past er indoors.
Anyway, I didn't want another Fazer as I had aleady had on 03 600 foxeye, and an 05 FZS1000S and an 04 FZ1, so over the last few weeks I have been on loads of test rides, culminating in a 08 Fazer thou last Wednesday and a 10reg Fazer 8 last Thursday.
Bottom line, I absolutely loved the Fazer8 ! what a surprise. :lol So I bought the 8 and it is being serviced and delivered this week. Can't wait.
Pity the Fazer 8 section on here is a bit lonely, I guess that's cos there aren't that many of them. Still It's nice to be back on the site and I daresay I'll stick my nose in some of the none 8 forums for a chat.
Great to be back on the dark side and look forward to exchanging views here.
Anyone near the New Forest/Southamton want to hook up just PM me.
