FZS600 Fazer / Petrol Cap woes
« on: 25 October 2017, 11:50:59 pm »
Well mines is getting more and more difficult to open every time I use it. Turning the key that last bit to pull back the bolt gets tighter and tighter, it feels as if I'm eventually going to break the key. Lubing helps for a bit but I think it's time to get a new one. Are the after market petrol caps any good? And more to the point are they easy to fit?

FZS600 Fazer / rear caliper refurb
« on: 18 October 2017, 07:44:55 pm »
Having replaced the rear disc, the rear caliper wouldn't go back on as one of the pots had seized solid so I've taken them off for a good fettle, one of the pots is completely focced.  :o  (clean and lube you brakes regularly)
Does anyone have any experience of aftermarket pots? Are they any good? Early fazer rear calipers are like hens teeth on ebay at the moment and I'm not willing to fork out £100+ for an equally rare thou caliper.
Any ideas?

FZS600 Fazer / Fork oils seals
« on: 07 September 2017, 11:23:13 am »
Does anyone have any experience good or bad with vesrah products? I've fitted these oil seals as I didn't want to pay yamaha OE prices or get fleabay budget seals.
They don't actually sell seals for the FZS 600 but as the forks are a fairly standard size the AR-4101 are a match. So far so good.

FZS600 Fazer / tool for fork rebuild
« on: 23 August 2017, 12:40:34 pm »
Unfortunately I've got a leaking seal so it's time to do some maintenance the bank holiday weekend. To loosen the bottom bolt (M8)on the bottom of fork leg, requires holding the inside damper rod- the usual method is to use a broom handle.

Manual refers to Yam tools (90890) but no idea of what it looks like. From memory I think it's a hex. If I knew the size and shape I could weld something onto a long rod and reach down there.

Has anyone made similar or have any ideas with size and shape help?

FZS600 Fazer / front mudguard woes
« on: 11 August 2017, 12:56:20 am »
Well mines just about sh*gged (the mudguard that is).   :(  Rather than play Russian roulette with ebay on the chance of an overpriced half decent replacement are there any good after market options out there?
The inserts that screw onto the fork stanchions are usually the first to go due to fatigue followed by the obligatory fender extender self tapping screws that also fcuk up your fender. Anyway can anyone recommend a decent alternative? What about the mudguards from other bikes? Surely there are a few about that can be modified to fit a fazer. Go on show me your front end.

FZS600 Fazer / Dread loss of acceleration at low to mid range
« on: 09 August 2017, 07:52:13 pm »
On my commute to work this morning I noticed a loss of power at low revs, put it down to the wet weather and the fact that I'd let the fuel run down to the bottom line of gauge.  :o  Got a full tank of fuel on the way home and the bike has been drying in the sun all afternoon. Unfortunately the problem is still there, however the bike still seems to rev freely in neutral. Desperate measures- a smear of silicone around the cracks on the card rubbers and I've even cleaned the air filter, lots of dead flies in there, the k&N filter is now drying in the oven. I only wish the wife was as filthy as that oven. Anyway fingers crossed. If this don't work, any ideas of what to try next?

I'm talking about motorcycle kit and accessories only, we already know all about Harleys.

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/films/1964to1979/filmpage_jimmy.htm

A tragic, needless accident.
But why did it happen?
The driver checks the traffic on his right. The road seems to be clear, and he pulls out.
But if we look again from the driver’s angle, we can see his problem.
Visibility isn’t good, but if only he’d checked again, he would have seen the motorcyclist approaching.
That car driver will be more careful next time.
For the motorcyclist, there isn’t going to be a next time.
So motorists: be particularly careful at junctions.
Think once.
Think twice.
Think bike.

Be careful out there Gents

I don't get it. If you're vegetarian then be a vegetarian rather than pretend to eat meat. Tried it the other night, it's just not nice. Am I missing something?

FZS600 Fazer / Cheap EU oil:
« on: 25 March 2017, 08:58:02 pm »
You can pick up some 10w40 semi synth oil (the stuff that our fazers like) mega cheap at the 'Home Bargains' discount chain.
it's £2 a litre. Yes! £2 a litre!  :thumbup
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • 4 years ago I had this discussion on here and decided to be the Guinea pig to try it out.
  • 4 years and several oil changes later, i can confirm it is absolutely fine, and a good price too.
[added to the op as I figured it would be usefull info - biker]

FZS600 Fazer / head race bearings
« on: 03 March 2017, 03:51:17 pm »
Well the old  :faz has now reached the 40k milestone  :eek and I'm thinking of replacing the head race bearings. There's nowt wrong with the steering at the moment- no freeplay or notching, everything ok. I hear that it's a bit of a ballache to do? Is it worth doing now or do I leave it a bit. At what milage did you replace yours if you have replaced?  I know that all bearings have a limited life in service, I've had to replace the front wheel bearings aboot 6 months ago. All input is greatly appreciated dear foccers. Cheers . . .Will

General / Rear brakes on cage
« on: 11 February 2017, 02:22:46 pm »
The best pal of the missus has an old honda jazz which has been a great runner for many years, however she says that the handbrake isn't working on hills. As usual I've been volunteered (press ganged) into helping.
I took it for a run and to be honest I can't find much wrong, you can't push the car on the flat with the handbrake on but if it's on a steep hill you can. Don't get me wrong, the brake still holds. I'm beginning to think she doesn't pull up the handbreak far enough. As it's a disc pad hanbrake I'm loathe to tinker with the actual cables Anyone any ideas on the one? ta much Will

There's no option for chrome waxers, I'm assuming most Fazer owners aren't big Custom/Harley fans.

A drug dealer was shot by police in a planned operation. Local MP's calling for calm etc...
All the would be gangsters out there need to realise that the biggest gang in town rightly is in fact the Police.
I feel for his family, but if you want to play gangsta expect to get shot.

General / Rules of the road please help
« on: 12 December 2016, 04:58:20 pm »
Hello peeps can anyone help with this scenario?

The green car is going straight across a main road. the cyclist(pedal powered) is on the wrong side of the road overtaking stopped traffic.
The blue car flashes the green car to come out.

Is the green car or the red cyclist at fault if a collision occurs where the red cross is?
