Hi,
Is this still for sale?
Is the mileage on the clocks in in KMS so its done around 33K?
Looking to buy a bike as just bought one from CMC cannock and turned out to be a lemon.

Yeah i think i do obsess abit about mileage and stuff like that, guess its just down to a limited budget and want to buy wisely and been caught out in the past, Im not overly technical and sometimes not sure if I'm getting a good deal or being ripped off.
I've spoken to the dealer i bought it from and they are more than happy to take it back and i think there a little disappointed that they have been caught out by the guy partex'ing it to them.
I just want something to commute to work and that's about it really.
On the paperwork it says first registered in the uk 18-april-2000 then next to it on hpi says registered abroad, so hopefully that just means that it went to live abroad at some point in its life.

Your bike looks nice and well looked after. From what i can see the bikes had 4 owners and it doesn't come with service history as such, just a pile of receipts for various bits and some service work. Its in pretty good condition with nothing really standing out as needing urgent work. The carb rubbers are looking a bit old but not had chance to test them yet for leaks, but the bike does run well. I guess for a £1000 you cant expect the world, but bought it from a dealer as a part ex bike and they said i can use it for 14 days and if there's issues i can take it back for a refund. The mileage thing does concern me as i didnt want a too high mileage bike, although i dont do that many miles a year, only about 3.5k in commuter miles and very rarely go out on weekends any more.

Just concerned that now with that thing possibly being fitted and not knowing how long its actually been in place for, whether the mileage is correct?
Its a nice bike and first impressions of riding it seem pretty good, I sold my old FZS600 last year after a few issues, but this one seems to run better.
Would be a shame to return it, but i only do about 3.5k a year commuting and if its done an extra 20k then it doesnt seem as appealing.

Could try and get in touch with the previous owner, he/she should be able to clear up the issues.
I did have a look to see if i could track down the owner but the paper work with it on must be at the dealers. :-( There is Gov website where you can check every mot the bike has had which also records the milage that may shed some light on it.
Insnt there an in line gadget that converts the needle position
I had a look on the MOT history checker website - the bike reg is V686 TAV - it shows a mix of mot's recorded in miles and KMS so hard to tell which is correct. I am taking it out at lunch at work as have found a route around here that's exactly 2 miles so will do that and check clocks and see if its recording distance in miles or KMS, but as i am very familiar with how far it is from work to my house and use the same route every day i know i couldn't of done it in 6.7kms as is pretty much 6.7 miles. Starting to look alot more like a 58k bike.

Hi all.
Well after a bit of two and frowing with the dealer i finally had the bike ( with a 14 day return policy)
I didn't notice when i looked at the bike that the clocks were actually in KMS not MPH, but knew that the mileage was in KMS.
The weird thing is when riding to work today i noticed that that on the speedo when the traffic was doing 30 it was saying 30KMS on the clocks, when i would of though it should say 50KMS and again when doing 50MPH, if that makes sense?
Also when i got to work i checked the trip computer and it said i had travelled 6.7, which is the exact distance it is to my work in miles? so i am wondering now if they have somehow managed to covert the clocks to MPH and the mileage of the bike is closer to 58 k rather than 38k which is what is was sold as?
So wondering if £1000 for a bike with that mileage is as good as deal as i first though??

Well i went back into the dealership last night to speak to the guy about the bike and to check on a few bits and at the minute still a bit 50/50 as to whether i have it as the guy was playing the old "sold as seen" - "trade bike" thing, although after i explained to him that it wasn't listed as that in the advert and I'm buying through a dealership as a normal customer then I'm covered by consumer law and the bike has to be fit for purpose.
I'm just waiting for a call back from head office to see where we stand with it as I can appreciate if you buy a bike private you've not got much come back but this is through a dealer and i at least want a little bit of piece of mind (just incase)

There is some kind of black tape on the headlight at the bottom, like a black strip.
Its hard to tell if its just a mistake by the mot guy putting in miles as KMS.
The Mot mileage does seem to flow in the right direction with just that issue of the miles/KMS confusion?
I do like the bike and would be a shame to pass on it, but not sure what issues i might have with the head lights if its an import?
Sorry, I'm not very technical and probably stuff that's blatantly obvious to everyone else.

Hi all, Just been to look at the bike on my lunch break as didnt want to wait until i had finished work. As a whole the bikes seems pretty nice, one sticker on the front of the bike seems to cover a fibre glass repair from what looks like a hole to attach a camera bracket? the rest are just to balance it out. The front indicators, although not brilliant, don't look too bad and the engine and exhaust sound ok, but cant test ride it until tomorrow as need to dig my gear out the loft. The one big thing that might be a deal breaker is that shows the mileage as 36,383 and pretty sure thats what it said on the clocks, but cant honestly remember (will be making a phone call in a minute) but when i did the MOT history check now that i know the reg it shows up a few inconsistencies with the mileage. its a bit hard to explain but the Reg is V686 TAV, i used the https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ looking at the DVLA stuff it seems to show some mots were done in miles and some in Kilometers? I've not come across this before? Dont know what you guys think about this??

Hopefully the stickers are only hiding the paint underneath and nothing else.
Not a huge fan of stickers all over a bike, but will have a look, hopefully not been on there too long to effect the paint work.
Spoke to the guy about it and going to view later, then if it looks ok i will test ride it tomorrow at some point and take it from there.
Just need something to get me to work and back, about 14 mile a day commute.

Hi all.
I've been off the site for a while after having a bit of a break from biking but looking at getting back into it.
I've come across a 2000 FZS600 Fazer at my local dealership, ive not been to see it yet, but going this afternoon.
Its done 36k miles and going for £1000 as its was taken in part ex against a new bike.
Not sure what the exhaust is, as the pictures not great and its had a mod on the front headlights.
Not sure what people think?
I used to own a FZS600 very similar to that one just in black and also had a FZ6 but wasnt too impressed.

I feel sorry for your missus, does she normally stay at home and never get out unless you get a bigger bike? 
I used to own a Honda X11 and we always used to go out together but since i had my Fazer shes not been on that one, but just fancied something a bit bigger and the look of the FZS1000 is a lot better than my old Boxeye fazer and all the foxeyes i have seen arent great or high priced.

Hi all,
Hope you don't mind me asking a silly question?
How does the fuel economy and range compare between the FZS600 and the FZS1000?
I'm looking at upgrading to a FZS1000 (probably 01 plate) and mainly be using it for commuting to and from work and a bit of weekend riding?
I normally put about £15 in my FZS600 and get about 160 miles out of it as its mostly urban/mid speed riding i do, no motorways or 50mph+ roads.
Also do you think the FZS1000 would b a bit over kill for this as I really do like the look of the bike and love my FZS600 just looks a bit dated now and want something with a bit more power in case i want to start taking the missus out and about.

Still no luck locating the vibration??!
I had the whole from off saturday and checked everything over and removed a few bits of after market wiring and things that had been fitted to the bike that looked a bit rubbish and i dont use.
After riding it to work this morning the vibration is still there? i checked the mirrors for vibes and doesnt seem to come from there and also tried to check indicators while riding but they seem ok also? there is still some extra wiring in the look around the lights that might be catching on the fairing and causing it, but just seems odd how different the bike feels when its got the front fairing off??
The front fairing is in pretty good condition and only has one minor crack on it, where the indicator stalk passes through, ive tried to glue this to see if it helps but still nothing?
Maybe like ive said before, its just the nose cone amplifying the noise and its there all the time , it just seems a lot worse than the normal fazer vibe.

Well the vibration came back on the way home, tried holding different bits trying to locate it but still not having any luck?
Don't know if the nose cone just amplifying the noises and just resonating off that? Might strip it down again today and have another look.
Did look last night on eBay for headlight mods and things? Although not sure how big a job it would be to switch over to naked.

I will double check the indicators later, although i did put some thin foam padding behind the screen a while back.
there is a slight crack where the indicator connects on the right side so maybe this has something to do with it? maybe it was dropped before i had it?
It really did feel like a different bike earlier when the front was off, i mean with out the vibrations.

Hi all,
After doing bits and bobs on the bike recently and trying to iron out all the kinks and strange noises I am starting to think that alot of the issues with the vibration and weird feeling is down to the front fairing vibrating/resonating and certain revs.
I took the front to bits earlier and took it for a test ride outside my work and normally once at about 5+k rpm it feels strange and vibey and feels like I have to change up to keep it out of that patch, after removing the fairing and lights it didnt feel like that at all and pushed it up to about 10krpm in first, which you probably shouldnt do but its almost the first time i have felt like i could.
I put the headlight unit back in without the fairing and rode it again and it was still fine, I have put the fairing back on now but ran out of time so will have to try it on the ride home.
One thing i thought was that due to the bike having a few dash mods that this could maybe cause the wiring loom to become fatter and making the fairing not sit right? although I am seriously considering removing the temp gauge and the analogue clock as I dont really need them and they not sure i like the look of them anyway.
Guess what i was asking about was should the worst happen and that annoying vibe is still there, whats the best way to go about replacing the lights and is there much work involved?
I have seen a few headlight setups on ebay, although I only ride at day and finish work at 4:30pm so its only just getting dark at night even at winter, so not fussed if the replacements are similar in power to the standard ones (think someone mentioned this about dominators??)
Wasnt sure how people mount the clocks and indicators??

The bits wired in shouldn't have any effect once engine running as they use minimal current. The lights should brighten up the moment you rev the engine. It sounds like a poor connection somewhere in the headlight wiring.
I think i was guessing at the regulator/rectifier due to poor running, which after checking most things is still and issue and wondered if the R/R being faulty would impact the lights and other things. The bike starts fine most of the time just runs rough between 6-8k rpm which a few other people have mentioned there bike did when the R/R was on its way out? I will try and go through the electrics tonight as my multi meter was delivered today.

Do you get the yellow light at tick over and does it improve when the revs increase and return to normal when the revs get above about 2,500rpm? If it does then it looks like everything is OK.
If you do get a multimeter check the battery voltage with the revs about 3,000 if it is above 13.8 then everything probably ok
I can come on yellow and stay that way for the journey i do to work, (about 7 miles) I did put the battery on charge yesterday and seemed brighter this morning when i rode it. The bike had a few bits wired into it when i bought it like an immobolizer and a LED gear indicator and a dash clock and oil temp gauge, so wasnt sure if this would have any impact on the battery or power usage.

I dont know anyone else with a Fazer, or many other bikers for that matter? Might just have to try my luck with a multi meter? I have seen a few second hand regulators on ebay but they range from 1998 - 2004, so wasn't sure if i bought a newer one with less miles on it whether it would work the same, or might be a different design? Although some one might take pity on me and lend me one to try?

I just found a video on you tube about testing the rectifier, and I didn't realise that mulitmeters were so cheap, think i might have trip out later with the company credit card.
I've tried as much stuff as i can with the bike and running out of ideas, least this way i guess i can test the regulator on the bike and also the one off eBay.
I really do like my bike and its in pretty fair condition compared to some i have seen around, so just want to iron out the little kinks and niggles, i know people say that the Fazer is a bit vibey but this issue goes a bit beyond that and on the occasion when the fault vanishes, its great to ride.

Hi All,
Still working on getting my bike running right.
After ready a rather lengthy thread by Red98 I am hoping that I might be getting closer to sorting mine out?
I had checked over by a garage but at the time never thought to mention regulator/rectifier.
They said the engine was running fine, cleaned and synced carbs and checked over other things on the bike.
Guess my question is, is there any other way of knowing if the regulator might be faulty? i have noticed that few times when i get on my bike the head lights look worse than usual (if that's possible) more of a yellow then a white light??
I don't have any electrical testing equipment to test the regulator with and probably wouldn't have a clue where to start?
I did buy one off eBay last year although it was a old one and not in the best shape so maybe it had a fault as well but didn't make any difference? so was wondering whether to try again with one? but was sure which one to buy as mine is a 1998 model and wasn't sure if i can buy a later mode version or if I need to stick to 1998's??
I appreciate any advice.

Ok, so spoke to the garage this morning about the carbs and he assures me they were taken out and cleaned.
Although he did say that he used a different type of solution which doesnt clean the outside? (strange) but somehow cleans the inside??
I told him about the rough running and the poor idle and he has told me to take it back in on Friday for the day and he will re-clean them and see what he can do.
I'm not saying its going to fix the problem, I just want to get what i paid for and least it gives me a s good starting point to work from, hopefully he will give them a proper look around this time to check the internal parts for wear.
Oh the plus side, reading up on some of the info on the forum atleast gave me to confidence to attempt to remove my old "Ross M1 Immobilizer" which has been giving me trouble for a while and although it was a spiders web of wires, i took my time and got it sorted.
