« on: 01 September 2019, 03:18:05 pm »
Thinking of having a weeks spin around northern Spain and the Picos at the end of this month, any one got any experience of bike friendly hotels (secure parking etc), within walking distance of bars and food etc, in the area?

Cheers in advance

For Sale & Wanted / For Sale, Garmin Zumo 550 GPS
« on: 11 August 2017, 08:19:13 pm »
I am selling my Garmin Zumo 550 motorcycle GPS, it comes loaded with Europe City Navigator 2016.

Also included is a ram mount for fixing to handle bar, motorcycle mount/holder (lockable) with wiring loom and carry case.

I would like £80 including the postage.

I have upgraded to a tomTom Rider 450 as my riding mates use it and it comes with world mapping for our travels, so easier to share routes etc. (I personally thing Garmin are better)

Can send more photos if required.

General / Not too bad for an old girl.
« on: 07 August 2016, 08:57:01 pm »
I was in France, Germany and Belgium for the last two weeks on my FZS1000 Fazer.

I was checking my trip logs etc on my Zumo GPS and found my maximum speed (on an unrestricted Autobahn) was 156 mph  :) . Not bad for a 12 year old bike with panniers, top box and a big fat bloke in waterproof gear.

For Sale & Wanted / Gen 1 Touring Screen for sale
« on: 18 July 2016, 05:01:03 pm »
I am selling a Gen 1 National Cycles touring screen, I imported it from the USA.

I have only used it for 50 miles so is brand new and comes in original packing.

I bought it as I am off on a two week tour in Europe this week. It is very effective and allows 100mph cruising with just a bit of wind noise and no buffeting (I am 5'10").

The problem is it is so effective that it doesn't allow any air to flow through my vented jacket (not good in the South of France).

It would be brilliant for commuting and cooler weather use, but not for me.

It cost me £140 including shipping and duty, so would like £90 plus the postage.

Thought I would try on here before eBay

General / camera advice needed
« on: 14 May 2016, 06:07:03 pm »
My son wants a compact camera he can go snorkeling with (max depth 2-3m) or wont ruin it if it gets wet.

There are so many confusing reviews (well for an old man like me), anyone got any experience or advice?

It needs to be able to take good photos on dry land (scenery and party snaps) and have WIFI or Bluetooth for easy transfer of pictures.

Or a good compact that he can get a waterproof case for.

Budget is up to £300

General / Any Plumbers in the house?
« on: 23 July 2015, 09:43:43 pm »
I am after some advice from a proper plumber, not a DIYer like me.

I have a leaking radiator in a bathroom that I am going to replace with a towel rail radiator.

My question is can I use two flexible hoses (as used for taps) instead of using 15mm compression joints and coper pipe to connect the radiator to the valves just above the floor.

I want to do this as I will be re doing the bathroom next year so want it as a temporary fix (and to speed the job up)

For Sale & Wanted / For Sale, Autocom Air, Brand new
« on: 06 July 2015, 07:32:43 pm »
I bought an Autocom Air, but my helmet is too tight around the ears for the speakers.

This is the latest and supposedly greatest bluetooth helmet headset which costs £189.

http://www.autocom.co.uk/bluetooth-motorcycle-headset.html

I removed the main unit and battery from the packaging, to charge the battery. And the speakers from their packaging to fit to my helmet, all other accessories still in packaging.

This set up is brand new, never used and is in original box.

I would like £139 including the postage (£50 less than new).

Hi,

I have a bungalow in Hale Village, Nr Liverpool Airport, and I am trying to get some repairs to guttering, patio slab works and a new shed sorted (with electrics).

Problem is I work away and don't have time to mess about, I have contacted a few firms locally and they never get back to you.
I tried to get a shed but they all want 3-6 weeks before delivery and I wont be here then.

Anyone know of any good firms that can provide that sort of work (and a Shed) at short notice?

Thanks

General / Android phone software upgrade
« on: 30 November 2013, 10:31:33 am »
My Google Nexus 4 did an upgrade to Android 4.4 Kitkat and since then it drains the battery really fast.

My wife's Samsung Note did the same upgrade a few days later and now has the same problem with the battery.

Anyone got any idea how to stop that happening or know if there is an upcoming update?

General / Am I sick, do I need therapy?
« on: 03 August 2013, 11:21:38 am »
Clearing out the garage the other day I found an old bottle of Castrol R with a drop left in it.There was a thread on the fazer 1000 page about putting olive oil of the EXUP part of the exhaust to stop the rust, so I thought I would use up the old Castrol R and give it a try. I applied it with a paint brush and left it over night and the next morning went for a ride.

Now every time I stop I get a waft of the great smell of Castrol R and it gives me a chubby on remembering all the crazy days as a youth on two stokes in the 70"s. I have even started singing 70's songs as I ride along.

Please help  :)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Annual Fiddle
« on: 11 July 2013, 09:08:08 pm »
Thought I would treat he old girl (2004) to a few upgrades and changes as the sun is shining  :)

Got the gold wheels from here after they had been through a few hands.

Zero Limits Carbon Sub Cowl and radiator covers, top quality but take ages to deliver. Wavy discs with Ferrodo pads, improves braking massively (feel and power). Not sure on the gold wheels, they are not gold or shiny enough, I think it might be Subaru wheel gold. MCT service and set up of K-Tech rebuilt forks, plus rear shock. Roadsmart 2's front and rear

Puig DB screen fitted last summer, ok to 85-90 after that head shake, though not too bad for noise.

Riders eye view with zero limits carbon infill panels. Gold screw on brace replace the original one fell out on way to MOT.

New MRA X-creen fitted to DB screen, I have had a MRA Vario but always thought the main screen was too small. This set up seems to work well and gives better results and less noise than Vario. More road testing required, but it was simple to fit (will fit to most screens)

Front view

Side view

New Chain and Sprockets next, followed by carbon side panels and airbox covers. Thinking of getting my other wheels carbon dipped and possible engine and frame covers too.

And if I can get on a ferry a ten day trip to Spain  :)

General / Car insurance for young drivers
« on: 06 July 2013, 11:27:08 am »
Where the fuck can you get a sensible quote for car insurance for younger drivers? My daughter has just passed her test and is 18 1/2 years old. No Accidents, no convictions, car garaged at night.

Looked at a £1000, old Ford Ka £4500 a year insurance. A 10 year old £1300 Toyota Corolla Auto £10,000 insurance and as my dad used to work a Fords and gets a good discount I thought I would look at a new Fiesta £52,227.29 a year  :eek .

I have tried all the online comparison sites plus a few others.

Are most young drivers uninsured because it costs nearly the same to put her on as a named driver?

General / Tablet advice
« on: 04 July 2013, 05:24:25 pm »
My mum wants to get my dad and iPad or other tablet for his birthday. They don't have a computer in the house but can get cheap broadband from their phone supplier.

What's the best to go for for a non tech savy old bloke? he will need one that is stand alone (no need for 3G) and hopefully can be connected to his Sony TV via USB or HDMI as I have a Sky package that he can view on the tablet.

I use MAC, PC and Android so I was thinking a Google Nexus 10 would be cheaper and easier to use, no need for an iTunes account etc etc. I can set him up a GMail account and he won't be buying any apps, just using free ones.

Any thoughts or advice most appreciated.
