Speedo
« on: 10 October 2019, 11:16:24 am »
Set off for a ride this morning on my 2000, FZS 600. I went over some speed bumps and no speedo reading.  Just got back and found an unconnected wire. Please see photo. Could some kind person please tell me where this connects to ?

I'm not sure that is original and I'm confident nothing to do with the speedo.

It looks like an LED, perhaps an aftermarket alarm or even a fake LED to make it look like there's an alarm on it.

The speedo signals all go through the same large multi-connector inside that large rubber boot.  There are no other connections into the dash.

I'd pull the boot and block connector off and check for any corrosion, cleaning if required (unlikely as it's well protected, but you never know).  After plugging it back in, re-test.

If it's still not working, go to the other end of the circuit - remove the front wheel and check the speedo drive.  Chances are it's broken and was dislodged by the speed bump.  Depends on how bad it is as to whether it can be repaired or needs to be replaced.

Hi Jamie. Thank-you so much for the reply. I couldn't see what the wayward wire had to do with the speedo and you have confirmed my thoughts. I shall follow your advice and check the other things. Thanks again.

In addition to Jamieg285s reply, before you go removing the wheel, check the connector under the left fairing infilll panel as this is a very common area to have connection issues . All connections to the front of the bike go through this connector.

Checked all connections. Everything seemed good. Took front wheel off and found a broken rotor sensor. Just fitted a new one. All is good again.  :)

Did you have the wheel off recently. Usually happens are the wheel not been located properly on the tabs. Superglue will fix once it is well cleaned. New ones are about £15

The wheel has not been off recently. It was off last December. There was only one broken off tab there today when I removed it, so I don't know if it's been running on one for a while. I bought a new one for £24-95 plus postage.

They have increased in price since I last bought  :eek That was for my sons bike (about 3 years ag)o due to the fellow who fitted his new tyre and not locating the tabs correctly when refitting the wheel.
Thankfully an easy fix
