Pinched from another couple of forums, just to get a bit of banter about you're favourite music going, see who likes what.
Currently got on "Sister Morphine" by the Stones - used to do this in a little acoustic trio, mostly for a bike club we all used to be in, friends of, and parties , then for SE MAG (we played the acoustic marquee at the last Magna Carta rally that was held at Upminster), so this tune brings back some memories (not that many cos we were all stoned most of the time :smokin :lol ).
Also, when I was in hospital after my big smash, my mate brought me in a tape (tape?! :eek ) that had this on, Comfortably Numb by Floyd etc - when I was high as a kite from the Omnipon :smokin :rollin ).
-
I'm listening to a bit of hard rock most days - Iron Maiden, Guns and Roses etc. In the evening, I chill out with a Youtube game (I put on a song I like, then the next 10 songs I listen to can only be picked from the selection down the right)
-
Well, I had Arrow on the radio in car for a while today, until plugged ipod in, then had some Saxon, then Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones then Tab Benoit.
Have a varied selection on my ipod, rock, blues, heavy metal, reggae, ska, folk, folk rock.
-
Cubanate, Ministry, NIN and Gary Numan today, but I'm an old fashioned bloke. ;)
-
OK, OK, I admit, I listen to Radio 2 in the car.
But only because I can't find (read: can't be arsed to look for) anything better!
-
Burial. Kindred EP.
-
Ive spent all day listening to the Mrs whinging and moaning!!!
-
I've gotten in to a lot of soundtrack music lately (ok... last few years)... and recently I've been enjoying the Inception soundtrack as I do really like the work of Hans Zimmer and this is no exception :)
-
i have a Kylie cd in the truck :kiss

Live & Let Die by Wings!! :b
-
Live & Let Die by Wings!! :b
I still think that "Wings Over America" is an excellent album, especially "Venus & Mars/Rock Show/Jet" medley.

Yesterday on the way back from Wales , Chilled R&B , a present from my daughter , and when we got closer to Bristol , Totally two tone .
-
Cubanate, Ministry, NIN and Gary Numan today, but I'm an old fashioned bloke. ;)
You've got a similar taste to me self destruct, big NIN fan
Currently reliving my teens listening to a bit of vintage INXS for a chill out with the rose tints on.
-

-
Lonnie Mack - instrumental cover of Chuck Berry's "Memphis Tennessee".
Lonnie was a major influence on Stevie Ray and Jimmie Vaughan - you especially hear it in things like Stevie's "Scuttle Buttin", and he covered Lonnie's "Wham!"
-
Not as much listening but playing on the guitar Randy Rhoads Diary of A Madman and Thin Lizzy Boys are Back in Town.
Other than that all roads leads to Rock / Metal when on the bike.

Cubanate, VNV Nation, Combchrist, Sylosis, Revocation, Garbage, Katy Perry, Psycroptic, Pink, Marina & The Diamonds, Strapping Young Lad and last but not least Anthrax were the last bands my phone shuffled at me.
Fear Factory queued up and waiting for when I head out to the pub in an hour so.

-
Love BBC 6 Music.
Used to have to listen to it via satellite fed into my HiFi due to reception issues round here.
Recently stuck a 5foot aerial up in my loft as there's now a new transmitter not too far from me. So getting it crystal clear now through the HiFi.
-
I'll download it and have a wee listen tonight mate.
:thumbup
Follow him in Facebook, just glad I managed to see 'em at the Barras supporting Fear Factory back in the day.

Would that have been around '98? Saw them in Wolverhampton supporting Fear Factory, one of the best gigs I've ever been to. :D
-
Yeah, about '98 or '99.
:D
Haven't missed a Fear Factory gig in Glasgow since '96, love them.
Cubanate were pretty awesome, I think it was Will Haven or some such pish that were the thrid act.
Didn't rate them at all.
One thing I'm starting to miss already about Glasgow is the number of great gigs.
Therapy? and Sylosis both played in the last couple of weeks, dare say the chances of them coming to Auckland as regularly are fairly slim.
:rolleyes
-
a bit of led zep at the moment, mothership on media player at work,
-
yup i love me zep too... you know the bloke from the wonga ads?his names ben lapps..even as a kid he was good, this is his cover of an old led zep track..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_Xo8iYn16Q&feature=player_detailpage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_Xo8iYn16Q&feature=player_detailpage)

That's some clever stuff on both of those Paul, enjoyed em, cheers :thumbup
Bit of a Zep fan too, and have always liked bands influenced by them. I have a fair amount of Joe Bonamassa on the MP3 - I like him for the blues, the Zep influenced rock and the acoustic stuff - he covers all the bases really.
-
The Doors & Nirvana.
Man has taste!!
-
been listening to Joshua James, awesome kid from that there Nebraska 8) 8) 8)

Definitely the same tour, I got into Will Haven because of that gig! :D
Last time I saw Fear factory was around 2005 I think, I left my cousin's wedding in Braintree early and went straight to the gig in Nottingham wearing a 3 piece suit and my mrs in her evening dress. We sure stood out in the pit! :lol

Managed to find downloads of the Scorpions albums "Lovedrive" and "Blackout" at last recently, so they've been getting a lot of play. And keeping with the classic heavy rock theme, been a lot of Saxon from the albums "Wheels of Steel" & "Strong Arm of the Law" coming up on the mix tonight.

Always promoted as being from "It's All Gone Pete Tong" about a DJ that goes deaf but carries on anyway using the feel of the bass, but the song was never actually in the film at all.

I just clicked on it. Not available
Was it on a phone or tablet perchance?
There's a big issue with YouTube when it automatically chooses m.youtube for mobiles or tablets because for some dumbarse reason it suddenly becomes extremely restrictive for playing back videos.
The trick is to "Request Desktop Site" in the YouTube menu then videos will play okay.
All a bit pointless really?
The video is still there by the way.
-
Cheers will try again. Yeah on moby.

Cheers will try again. Yeah on moby.
Only reason i mentioned it is 'cos a mate kept trying to watch stuff on his phone and it was constantly saying "video not available" then it happened to me today on my iPad so i looked a bit more into it and found the solution. :thumbup

-
Thin lizzy live and dangerous .probably the best live album ever?
I heard an interview re Live and Dangerous and they band said it was one of the worst recordings in history, they were all out of their face's and either forgot the lyrics or screamed out obscenities, the album was basically trash until they got it into a recording studio to rework it.
Proper rock and roll :D
-
Thin lizzy live and dangerous .probably the best live album ever?
My uncle lent me that when I was nine in 1981. It's the album that got me into metal, and as live albums go, the only better one I reckon is AC/DC's If You Want Blood.
-
I've got a copy of If You Want Blood on vinyl somewhere, great album. Never could stand Thin Lizzie though, there's something about Phil Lynott's voice that, for me, turns a good song into something dreary.
-
That's my three all-time favourite live albums mentioned in this thread now: Live & Dangerous, If You Want Blood and Strangers In The Night (UFO) :)
Other live albums that rate highly for me: Rory Gallagher, Live In Europe, and Stage Struck. I also think Rush's All The World's A Stage deserves a mention.

I'd forgotten about Strangers in the Night, I used to have that too. My favourite live albums are Gong Live Floating Anarchy, Jethro Tull Bursting Out and Hawkwind Live 79.
I find it odd that Hawkwind were/are brilliant live but I find their studio albums quite dull.

ELO, John Newman

wayne county and the electric chairs, can anyone name there only number one.? it was not played on any radio or top of the pops but still got to number one. a good quiz question . ;)
-
Don't know if they ever had a No1 in this country, the only song I know by WCATEC was one my mate had, on shit vinyl, that went, "If you don't' wanna fuck me baby, baby fuck off." Cant remember what it was called though ............................................................. Ah, I remember now!!

Wasn't that Wayne who went on to become Jayne?
I'll never forget years ago when my older brother was at an Iron Maiden concert and yer main man Bruce shouted out to the audience "We're gonna be Number 1 in the charts, mark my words." and it got released a week after Xmas and went straight in, although the BBC totally refused to play it.
I mean they wouldn't wanna upset anyone would they, it's not like they were a bunch of kiddy fiddlers or the like is it?
Great wedding song too if you're not too fond of the father-in-law. :lol
The song was "Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter" :D

I like the group although for me you need the visuals that go with the track, burnt a few onto a CD for the car but soon tired of them. Saying that I'd like to see them live
I know what you mean, there is something fascinating about seeing them perform.
Performing arts?

Great vocal range, i really like this, although i think the drums would be more effective if they were a lot more dramatic.

The Eldritch Dark by Blood Ceremony. Think Jethro Tull meets Black Sabbath. Mind you either the Amazon download mp3s are shite or their master tape is rubbish. It sounds a bit like it was recorded on a 1970s ferric cassette.

Been playing my favourite office game - play a tune you can't get out of your head and sit back to see how many singers/hummers/whistlers you can get to match the tune. Played the below 4-5 times and got 8 singers/hummers/whistlers. All called me a wanker 'cos they couldn't lose it :lol

Sorry for your loss mate.
I know what you mean with slipknot, maybe try a band called spineshank, their guitar riffs are golden. Or even a bit of rammstein?

Thank you for the heads up on those bands, will give them a listen.

I like Robin Trower, although Stevie Ray Vaughan once said he was fixated on the darker side of Hendrix. I can see where he was coming from, but I think Trower made it work for himself. Got the album of him with Jack Bruce recently - not their best work ever, but has some good points.
Me, I'm mostly listening to anything and everything by Rory Gallagher at the moment. Got myself "The Best of Taste"; the first two albums under his own name, which amazingly I hadn't heard; "Notes From San Franciso"; and "The Beat Club Sessions". I'm trying to learn to play his (electric guitar) style at the moment, including tackling slide guitar in standard tuning - he was definitely a master of this! Got the rhythm parts from about 18 tracks down, and have figured out some of his use of sliding double-stops, pinched harmonics etc. Quite obsessed with it all really.
Also picked up on two collaboration albums from Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa. She's a cracking blues singer, and Bonamassa needs no introductions.

Rory Gallagher- hell yes, he was criminally underrated. The solo in 'A Million Miles Away' just about breaks my heart.

lol someone bought me that Whale Songs Almum a few years ago after I had gone through a very bad patch in life they said it would help by de-stressing me, that exactly what it did it fucking distressed me, what a crock of shit. It is now tied on one of the rigging lines on the front gib of my mates yacht nalong with several other discs it stops the seagull perching there and shitting all over .the deck. Taking the yatch across to the Isle of White tommorow if it's not the windy talking about 17 to 19 mph winds in the Solent so will be a tad choppy

Unbelievable.
Not your average biker music, but this guy is an absolute inspiration.
His name is Nicholas Macathy I saw him in concert (My Wife's idea not mine) in London and was completely blown away by this guy, he is a left hand pianist, its not just that he plays left handed he has no lower right arm at all.
Not saying you will like the music, you may, but its worth just watching and listening to what can be achieved with dedication and balls the size of footballs.

Sabbath bloody sabbath s still my fave heavy album even sfter all these years, but you gotta love the noise these two guys make, especially when the frontman looks like your old geography teacher but can riff on a guitar and play the keyboards at the same time...and playing live, they sound just like a studio track. https://youtu.be/YkIa8F1gEp0

A live version of the opening two tracks from one of the finest metal albums ever recorded, just how good is that opening riff? Worth watching for Mr. Milano's jump alone.
And this, a better DnB tune than many specialist DnB producers release.... David walked around the streets of New York with a DAT machine, encouraging people to contribute on the basis that if they were good enough they would make the album....

Isn't it amazing how much unknown talent is out there in the world but most of the "popular" stuff we get fed is rubbish in comparison.
I would definitely pay some of my hard-earned pennies to go and see that lot play.

Sad, sad news from the rock music world - the guitar legend that is Bernie Torme has died :'(
Nobody, IMHO, could make an electric guitar sing like Bernie.
Seen and met him loads of times, both with his own band and as GMT ((Robin) Guy (what a drummer!!), (John) McCoy (Gillan bassist) & (Bernie) Torme).
He was an absolute gentleman and always had time for a chat with his fans.
RIP mate.

AH...Omnipon was the best synthetic....Am gorging on Frank Zappa live performances on Tube...and blissing out on choral renditions of Hildegard of Bingen tunes from the 12th century

I recently splashed out on an internet/DAB radio for home & office.
What a fantastic bit of kit.
I'm into thrash metal, punk, etc (sorry folks, I'm an old head-banger) and there are literally hundreds of dedicated stations available, for all genres, not just the ones I like.
I'm currently listening to a radio station called "Radio Caprice - Thrash Metal".
It's awesome - no adverts; just non-stop tunes :guitar :thumbup

More pish on Smooth Radio.

Andrew Castle's early morning weekend shows on LBC. Best programmes on the channel. Unlike Nick Abbot's late night one's which are the worst.
Been going off LBC for a while but since Farage was cancelled - which wasn't an issue for me, but what did it for me was when arrogantly O’Brien tweeted: “We got our station back.”
-
.
-
What I like about Andrew Castle is that he's fair and unbiased.
He wont be there too long then.
Yes Farage was biased but he always came across as polite and got as many calls against what he stood for as those that agreed with him, he was never rude/ conceited or arrogant unlike o'brien. Faggeraty is just as bad with the same anti trump - rhetoric, I don't give a toss about trump, LBC needs to understand that an echo chamber makes boring radio.

. It ought to be roughly half & half left/right,
Don't think Jim Davidson is bright enough for HIGNFY, and Bernard Manning's dead :lol
Anyway Baroness Turncoat was on a couple of weeks ago.

Yep that reply confirms you're their target audience. Thank you for helping prove my point so succinctly
No problem. If you could point me at a funny right wing comedian (unlikely), I'll certainly give it a go :)

Hey Yamfaz / Mtread. This looks like it may end up getting cancelled due to getting political - do you want to take this up in a private chat room ( mine ) never used it before, just fancy having a play. Top of page second from end - the Chat section.
-
Still faffing in the chat thing trying to work out how it works.
-
and all the multitudes of left wing 'comedians' on the BBC are side splittingly hilarious?
No some of them are complete shite.
Actually thinking about right wingers, Simon Evans is very good. Saw him in Edinburgh many years ago.
I'm more interested in good comedy. HIGNFY and the News Quiz certainly gave Corbyn a good bashing.

It's not meant to be 'Mrs Brown's Boys'. For satirical comedy, the government of the day will always get the majority of the ridicule. Especially when they make mistake after mistake. Don't forget the Tories, in various forms, have been the government of the last 10 years. Blair and Brown got a lot of stick, but it's so long ago you've probably forgotten :)
-
The old crow medicine show. "Wagon Wheel" and the weight with Gillian Welch, brill!! :woot

if Sleepy wins next month
Fingers crossed :D

this is my list of so called comedian's who are not in the least bit funny, Rhod Gilbert, Eddie Izzard, Russell Howard Alan Carr, Dawn French, Jo Brand, Jason Manford, Jon Richardson, Jack Whitehall (shouty but never funny)Steve Coogan, Sarah Millican, Rob Brydon, David Mitchell, Micky Flannigan, Frank Skinner, Johnny Vegas, Russel Brand, Alan Davies, Rufus Hound, Russell Howard, Paul Merton, Ross Noble, Johnathan Ross, Henning Wehn, Julian Clary, and finally Billy Connelly cos he just moans and complains for the last 10 years and calls it comedy.
-
.
-
Dear oh dear. :rolleyes
So name some good ones. Nigel Farage doesn't count.

Today, I have listened to a symphony.
Called Black Widow, its in several movements, from the introduction through various pieces, i.e. 4,000 & 6,000. I think the composer is Yamaha. The best bit (I think) was the overrun, followed by the give it the berries. :lol :lol
