I think you could only expect this kind of money for an NR750 you know that one with the oval 8valve pistons ? really trick those were, they were a fuckin' fortune when they built 'em so I can't imagine what they'd be going for now! but that 1100's way overpriced IMO as nice as it is.

Up until a couple of years ago this would have been my dream bike,I always, always wanted an old Harley,Indian, etc. Then I was in the isle of man and we were stopping in some digs in Castletown and sharing with 2 lads, one with a Sportster and one with a Knuckle Harley about a 1940 or thereabouts,I couldn't believe it! my dream bike! then he proceeded to explain everything that goes with these old bikes especially the knuckle or equivalent Indian. Just to start it was a nightmare, juice on ,prime it,juice off ,kick, juice on,kick, kick.kick, fuckin' kick, when it did eventually start it had some moody foot clutch which had to be synchronised with the throttle to try not to stall it and the hand gear change was a joke  :lol  The bloke told me that the maintenance was just ongoing, and break downs commonplace! This on something that will cost you anywhere between £30,000 and £50,000 depending on the history and condition.Maybe this was just an unreliable one but I don't think so,because the owner really new about old Harleys. It makes you wonder when these were modern what the riders thought of them 'cause they wouldn't know any diff would they? Then again to someone who's never rode a bike before even a modern one could seem complicated. I would love to see some old footage of riders on a load of Knuckle heads and Indians mooching about. :woot

I honestly dont check anything other than the amount of fuel before I ride out... but that's not a clever thing, it's just laziness Haha
I check the tyre pressure every few months (when I remember) and other than that I check things when they stop working.

As for regular 'maintenance' I'll wash it every fortnight or so depending on use, oil the chain everytime I wash it.
I change the oil twice a year (before and after winter months), clean the air filter every 6 months or so.
Once a year I'll take the calipers off, check the pads and while I'm there clean and regrease all the pistons, I undo all my exhaust studs and reapply copper slip, decrud/clean the lower suspension linkages and apply ACF50

That's about it really

I'm about the same without the exhaust stub nuts, never really thought about them really but you can bet your best riding boots if I ever need to take them off I'll be in the shit !!!! :'(

With the current lockdown in effect I've recently stripped all extra parts off and given her a 'super deep clean' which has gove me chance to do some of the other random little maintenance tasks (like changing the rear caliper fluid) and has helped me spot a few bits that need doing

When my bike's laid up for the winter I occasionally start it up until the fans kick in and it seems to take forever coming on at about 100 but what I've found is one comes on before the other and I sometimes don't wait for the 2nd one to start because I'm normally pissed off by now :)  but I do know it works but just like you I don't think I've noticed them on on a run,I suppose if you sat in a traffic jam in the summer they'd come on but why wouldn't you be filtering ? :lol

I used this on the downpipe on a CG125 I had and it worked great,I was that impressed I decided to clean up some pots and pans that we'd had for years, ended up staining the lot, they looked terrible :eek  so great for bike pipes but I'd watch it on some metals. ;)

When he did the Mille Miglia, a 1000mile race across italy his co driver,a journo Denis Jenkinson devised a way of mapping the course on toilet roll! as the race went on he was shouting at Stirling what was coming next as he unravelled the paper, Stirling had total faith in what Denis was shouting and said in his book that he never doubted Denis's instructions and when he screamed "flat" at certain times his heart was in his mouth because a lot of the time he couldn't see the exit!! He not only won the race he did it in a time much faster than anyone had before and beat drivers who new the course and had raced it for years!! unbelievable.

Started stripping mine down to give it a good thorough deep clean and do some light maintenance. Removed the headlight assembly, all the mudgaurds, belly pan, radiator covers etc  so they can be washed in the bucket then removed the full exhaust system (studs came off with ease... yearly copper greaseing proving its worth) so now I can give that a good buff and polish. Finally got the lambda sensor out of the downpipes and replaced it with a blanking bolt.
Waiting on the new brake parts to arrive so I can service them. In the meantime I'll be out there with a toothbrush cleaning out all the little crevices that I can't usually reach and looking for any corrosion.
All in all a productive day

What benefit do you get blanking off the Lambda sensor ?

During the lockdown I've repaired the wood on the gable ends of our bungalow, the one side I did pretty fast but I couldn't get some stuff I needed for the other but found a hardware shop selling out of his door onto the pavement so was able to get the stuff to finish the other side, really expensive compared to builders yards though. ;)  Anyway needs must and another week or so will see it finished. :thumbup
