That would be an interesting, quite original Mod! ...then where would the Silencer part be secured?
Alternatively you could go to any decent motorcycle exhaust manufacturer, to make you up a custom length/shaped link pipe - so the silencer sits at the desired new position?

For Sale & Wanted / Re: Tap for renthal bar ends
« on: 23 April 2019, 11:47:32 am »
im going to get a set of 758 bars but I want to tap them for the stock bar ends. Does anyone have either a set to sell other want to sell the tap to me?

After fitting your 758's, have you ridden both with / without the bar ends in place, for a comparison on their effectiveness?

I replaced the standard handlebars with a Renthal 758 bar, however chose NOT to add (re-fit) bar ends. I have no noticeable vibration or other issues at any speed.
The Renthal bar does appear to soak up alot.

Always felt that was a bit pointless too as it’s based on the number of posts which you can see anyway. And quite a few people have a total greatly inflated by contributions to the meritless "three word story" and "word association" threads.
A ranking based on the usefulness of posts would be a welcome addition, eg. a count of thumbs-up clicks… but that would probably involve a change of forum platform and a lot of expense.

YES! Have come across a few forums where individuals can "thumbs up" a Reply Post, to indicate it was very useful information. Which was the only way their RANK gets increased. Not based on posting 100's of pointless one liners... or even Three words in some cases. :)

But like anything in life, there will always be a minority who go out of their way to beat (cheat) the system.  :whip

I fitted an aftermarket Undertray to my Fazer.

There's a plastic section at the rear that extends down behind the rear wheel.
This was cut down so the Undertray fits into position with no obstructions.

Then I added a small tail tidy to the rear of the Undertray, to hold new (LED) indicators, plus numberplate.  8)

I've fitted Venhill braided hoses on my Fazer, very pleased with these. Plus cosmetically look great too. :)
(there were a few sellers on EBay stocking these).

Yes, if you go for the "RACE" configuration, you get 2 individual hoses that go from the Reservoir, straight down to the Caliper (each side).
Not a split from 1 hose to 2 (at the lower fork clamp), with the Junction in the centre, as per the standard config on the Fazer.

I've heard of a company wemoto (their website is great for OEM bike spares), but not "wesmoto"...

I bought one for something like £3 on ebay, does the job just fine, It's been inside the engine on my old storm no problems.
Yes I am pretty sure the only difference between a £3 one and a £16 one is --- £13. Although the fatter 8mm camera end does cost a little less than the 5.5mm. I needed it quick and did not want to take the risk of a £3 being no good for me.

Smaller the head the better. The aim is after all to insert it into difficult to access locations. Therefore you want it to be as slim as possible.

I need to route some cable around the house, so after drilling an initial hole in the wall, being able to see whats on the other side..... Would be a decent addition to the Toolkit at least. :)

Had my Mk1 Fazer for approx 2 years now.
VERY happy, it ticks most boxes, NOT planning to let it go any time soon (although the Mrs has other ideas!).

I had a Kawasaki Ninja before the Fazer, and while owning that always fancied a Naked Sports bike.
The Ninja unfortunately got written off, at which point my dream for a naked sports came true. :)

You object to You Tube etc taking down the footage F4celess?  Really?

I was merely making comparison to the way this recent event has been handled by the media (compared to the quantity of graphic video content still in the public domain - ISIS, war footage, 9/11, etc). All the other stuff on sites such as youtube, frequented by youngsters, no restrictions, who could come across such footage by accident. Why hasn't all the other (equally as terrible) videos been stripped from these video sharing sites with the same urgency (infact not at all).

VNA - Really? Bordering slander. At NO POINT did I state (or indicate) I "object to You Tube etc taking down the footage".
You intentionally chose to misread my text in order to create confrontation? Create hysteria? Or a sheep mentality, played/expanded on mtreads comment? Safety in numbers? Or a combination of all of the above? :)

My points were completely missed.

The guy LIVE screened his shooting rampage to Facebook plus a few other online media channels. He was wearing a GoPro camera recording, as it happened, on his helmet... However the video footage has literally been ERADICATED from 99.9% of the internet - by the powers that be!

HOWEVER…. YouTube (plus all the other video sharing sites) still feature hundreds and hundreds of apache helicopter vs "terrorist" war zone videos, showing individuals getting blown to pieces by cannon/missile fire. There was also the ISIS videos doing the rounds, plus a few famously grotesque videos I won’t go into, yet were (and most still are) up there on the internet to view that have not been censored at all !?

Is this because this guy doesn’t fit the stereotypical “terrorist” mould? – white, non-muslim, preaching, plus born and bred Australian, .... ?

Truly is sickening. How the German soldiers who ran the camps could stand there looking the poor souls in the eye, as they were being ushered off the trains in their thousands, knowing what they were about to experience, men women and children.........  humans are the most evil species of any kind walking this planet.

side stand is more than capable of holding the weight of thee bike its a well known way of turning bikes used to do it with all  the superbikes of old z1000s etc never ever seen a stand fail they are well over designed to hold the weight of the bikes

Great to know thanks! My Fazer has fallen over in strong winds on its centre stand before! :eek
Side stand would be more resilient in such conditions perhaps, as it holds the bike in a more 'sturdy' position.

Concerning the Bike dolley - that OTHER thread someone suggested the 'lazy susan' rotating base, which when fitted with a suitable 'top' (piece of ply) would offer a more controlled method of spinning the bike round. Worth a look.

It's easily done, thinking you'll remember something in a few days time which appears to be glaringly obvious when taken apart. For years I've had a white board for using non permanent markers on the garage wall, to make notes or scribble a sketch of a part on, or list the torque settings of what I'm about to work on rather than thumb through the manual with oily fingers when rebuilding said item.

White board is a great idea. I have the FZS600 Manual downloaded on my mobile phone, which ends up with the oily marks, after I have to refer to it to check the correct torque for some bolts, while re-fitting parts!

Make your own turntable with this

Here's one in action
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCSMNJArWIY

Now THAT's a very interesting option. Plus you could fabricate your own Base that you'd screw into the ready made holes in the top rotating section.
You'd want this operating on a completely flat space however, as if there's a slight gradient, the bike could begin to swing round (at the heaviest end) at speed and topple over.

EDIT: Would I have to notify the wife though, that technically I have a 'lazy susan' waited for me when I get back from my bike rides, hiding in the garage??  :b  :lol

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Might be a write off ...
« on: 11 March 2019, 11:48:46 am »
Belated response, however non-fault, front end damage only, most likely a Category N write off (non-structural / repairable)?
Look around the headstock area for signs of damage, warped metal or flaking of the paint around the welds, as this could indicate the frame is bent (game over).

So you'd get about £1K from the insurance company, plus the option to buy the bike back for a couple of hundred max, from salvagers.

Then you could fix it up with decent 2nd hand parts, turn it into a project, would only need an MOT to put it back on the road (if only a Cat N).
Or strip it and sell the parts - You'll soon forget the sentimental thoughts when you see 5 or 600 in the bank from selling on the parts alone (I went through the same thing with a previous bike).

Couple of other options I've seen, people swivel the bike 180 degrees pivoted on the side stand alone! Risking the side stand failing randomly as its exerting forces on it that aren't designed.

The other one (I've used a few times) is standing behind the bike holding the rear pegs or fairing, then carefully lift the rear wheel off the ground while moving it sideways a few inches at a time, to slowly turn the bike round.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Chain tension/wheel alignment
« on: 11 March 2019, 10:52:08 am »

As daft as it sounds it can simply be that it was fitted unwittingly by a left handed person!
I normally tap mine back in with a rubber mallet, and if i was left handed it would make natural sense to tap from the left with my controlling hand.
I get a similar scenario at work when i'm cleaning/unreeling a cable drum that's come back in from a job and i know when it's been reeled up by a left handed person because they will have reeled the cable onto the drum anti clockwise, instead of a right handed clockwise which makes things a bit cack-handed if you're the opposite.  :lol

Agreed.  ;)

The 2nd point you made about the cable drum reeling, reminds me of the days I flew big Powerkites, and reeling up the flying lines.
If you happened to hold the Bar with the opposite hand on the previous outing winding/unwinding, you ended up with 4 x 25metre lines all tangled and then had to spend a further 30+ minutes fixing the 'birds nest' before you could fly... all while your 13+ metre wide powerkite was trying its best (on its own) to take off in the wind.... also the embarrassment of having your mates out and flying already, while you were grounded working on your lines!   :\ :lol

My end can is aftermarket. It did have the standard Yamaha 'bazooka' (500mm) on there before, perhaps the reason someone decided to fit the spindle from the left side for convenience. Do based on your feedback it would be more advisable to insert the Spindle from the other side! Will consider swapping it round.

Taken from the manual, rear axle nut torque states 117Nm / 11.7m kg. I was tightening using a torque wrench and it didn't click, plus was giving it ALOT of force, didn't want to snap or bend something!..

I've seen these being demonstrated on youtube. Was looking into them also at one point.

It would be simple to make your own - can buy castor wheels, plus more than enough metal tubing / wood, from hardware stores.
Plus ideally you'd want the Castors mounted on the outsides of the 'base' to keep its height low, so easy to push bike on and off without a difficult "ramp" to overcome.
Also!... you'd want castors with brakes, so the unit doesn't roll off while you are attempting to push the motorcycle onto it!

It might not even need to be full length (to accommodate all of the bike - both wheels). Could be just a foot long, for one wheel of the motorcycle, so the bike is pivoted with one wheel on the ground, to be able to rotate the whole bike 360 degrees in its spot and change its orientation. For example ride into garage forward - spin it around on the dolly 180 degrees, and its ready to ride out forward next outing. 8) No 10 point turn necessary (unless you have the luxury of a double garage)!  :)

Thank you all for your observations plus feedback, all very valid possibilities - could have turned out to be any of them.

The actual problem was mentioned in His Dudeness post below - highlighted - I had not loosened off the Torque arm bolt to Caliper bracket.
Once this was loose the Wheel on its axle was free to slide forward and back in the Swingarm holes and could be correctly aligned.  :thumbup

I think you'll have to re-adjust it. Undo the axle nut and sit on the ground behind the bike and give the tyre a few kicks so the wheel moves forward. Be careful not to kick the bike off the stand. If the wheel moves forward the cover in the swingarm should go back in where it's supposed to be but the chain might go slack and you'll have to re adjust to get the correct slack. Something that's often over looked when adjusting the chain is the torque arm that connects to the rear caliper. It needs to be free to move when you're adjusting the chain. I think it can seize from rust and makes adjusting the chain more difficult.

bandit - your mention of the rear spindle being fitted the wrong way round is also an interesting one.
I've compared it to pics I've taken of my bike in the past, it's been fitted this way in all of them (Nut on right).
Watching a youtube video where someone was removing rear wheel I did notice his nut was on the Left! Had me thinking.

Hello all,

Fitted rear wheel back on, with new chain etc, however have an issue after setting chain tension (the two nuts on thread at rear of Swingarm).

The rear cover at back of Swingarm is loose, so something isn't right. Plus if I'm tightening those adjustment nuts so it pushes the end 'caps' tight against back of Swingarm then chain becomes too tight.  :rolleyes

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Diesels and Lawnmowers (Bike racing n things) / Re: I.O.M TT fatalities
« on: 14 December 2018, 02:58:22 pm »
This is the draw / excitement of this event, motorcycle racing on a "public road" circuit.
Having a 'bad year' where there were the most fatalities does not automatically mean the event should end.

Those individuals who did regretfully lose their lives, how many were professional riders compared to riders on the opposite end of the racing scale ?
(more of the latter would explain a lot).

The riders know the risks, they chose to compete, they enjoy the thrills of racing as much as we do watching them race.
Deaths are a potential outcome for alot of motor vehicle racing sports.
