Thanks for the reply , i read about the valves in a buyers guide i ride mag.the stator problems are to do with magnets coming unglued it seems to affect some R1 engines too,theres a few posts online about it , i just wondered if it was a common problem.

Was looking at an 06 fz1n with 14000m ,looking online they seem to have issues with fueling , stator problems and valve stems wearing.how common are these problems , does anyone have any experience with that years model.

Thanks for your input although I didn't mean to start an argument.my suspension settings were identical,I have another thread on here asking about suspension sag just to rule that out.after fitting the new front tyre I also checked the wheel and forks for alignment but everything checked out.I will take the tyre to my usual bike shop to get there opinion but they are a two hour round trip from where I live so haven't managed to yet.

Measured it again,front set up as follows.
Preload on line 2
Rebound 4 clicks out
Comp 10 clicks out
Static sag 19mm
Rider sag 31mm
Rear with R6 shock
Preload on position 5
Static sag 17mm
Rider sag 43mm
Measurements taken as described above.

After having issues with the front bt023 tyre I thought I'd check the rider sag.the bike has standard front suspension with an R6 rear shock from devilsyam.
On the front I got a reading of 28mm with the preloaded all the way in to position 1
On the rear I started with the preloaded on 4 with a sag of 50mm and got it down to 41mm with preloaded at 7
The rest of the front suspension is standard settings and the rear settings are as devilsyam supplied the shock.
My weight is 14.2 stone without riding gear although I was wearing it when checking the sag,I'm more of a you're than racer in riding style.
Do these figures seem OK ? Any advice appreciated.

Its the first time I've had any problems with a tyre and I've had a few different makes over the years,maybe just got a bad one.
I've just fitted another 023 to the front as I had bought it before this problem and I notice the tread pattern on it is different.hopefully this one is better.

Had no problems with the rear tyre just fitted another one a couple of months ago but I haven't had a front tyre wearing like that before.

Just had to change the front BT 23 on my gen 1 as it had worn on the right hand side.it had quite a pronounced step between the harder centre compound and the softer side tread,I would say around a 3mm difference which was really noticeable turning right.
The tyre had 6000m on it and I ran it at 36psi.
Has anyone had anything similar with this tyre or an idea what could be causing it.
Checked wheel alignment and all seems good.

Got out for a run today,first time since fitting one of your shocks what a difference feels like a different bike well happy with it.didn't go too mad as I just fitted new brake lines and pads but it definitely handles better.

Its under FZ1 2001-2005 and the part number is the same mpxo63
I put mine in on Sunday perfect fit haven't had a chance to go for a run yet,still winter up here.

Got shock put on today,greased all the linkages and adjusted front suspension as you suggested.the black shock and dogbones look good on a black bike.
Also fitted new pipercross air filter but haven't had a chance to take it for a run yet,was snowing here last night and -2 this morning.

Yes,got a couple from spud,the standard screen seems to work fine for me the taller ones seem to deflect the air under my helmet into my eyes.
