Hey Mike
We never met, nearly ivanised a few years ago but never quite made it.
Still lovin the bike but like you very little use recently....or visits to this site.
Other things come along and give us new interests, some of which are more comfortable as we get older bones!
I personally fly drones commercially now and have a small 2- seater soft top which keeps me out of mischief so I know
where youre coming from.
Good luck with all your trips and thank you for all the advice given to this site over the years.

Can't believe Christmas is nearly upon us again....and can't believe I've had the fazer over 11 years now. Hardly been used this last 12 months but that can change quickly.
Have a great Christmas everyone.... :)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Valve clearance tollerance
« on: 14 August 2019, 02:15:44 pm »
Boys
I recall reading on here that the valve clearance specified in Haynes is not correct.
Could someone please confirm the required tolerances? My fzs1000 is 2004 5lv engine.
After much deliberation I have booked my bike into an independent for this task.

Hugs and kisses.... :lol

Great post Robbo
Enjoyed reading that...so many places I've done on the Fazer, although I think you did it a bit quicker than me !
Coming from Yorkshire I don't have as far to go to get there as you did, always find the return a bit of a slog, maybe should break the return journey but once your heading home you just want to get there.
Probably missed Scotland this year now .the pesky midges are out. I got to Campbeltown and Mull of Kintyre last year in late May...bloody midges were starting to appear then! ☹️
Good read though...are you planning your next Scottish trip yet?

Interesting to read some of the responses here, I read the article and what stuck in my mind was how we don't see as we move our heads and the brain fills in the gaps. Whether on two wheels or in four I guess that's something we should all remember.🤔

Weirdest thing I had was putting my daughter on as a learner driver....price shot up as expected, then a few months later when I added my other daughter, also a learner, I got a refund because apparently two learners is less of a risk than one 🤔

Haha! I too have a wooden disc on a piece of string!!
I take a small kettle, a trangia method burner and a pan so a cuppa and a bowl of soup is never far away.
I take a small plastic bottle of engine oil in case a top up required, and a mini pump and some puncture plugs.
I have a led bulb on an extension lead I plug into the bike that can charge a phone or provide light at night. Also added a usb socket to the handlebars.
And I always seem to take too many clothes

I have now found the coolant pipes and o ring seals on a parts diagram.
All help appreciated 😉

Thank you for that reply and the useful link.
The check does seem within my capabilities, but I don't have the narrow feelers so maybe a job for someone else.
Can I remove the coolant pipes to clean or replace without removing the rocker cover?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Valve check and coolant pipes
« on: 07 May 2019, 11:19:31 am »
Guys
Has anyone got a link to a good 'how to' guide to check the valve clearances?
I have removed the ais several years ago so hoping this makes things a little easier.
Will I need a new gasket (no bike dealers within 20 miles so will have to prepare for this surgery).
Also, coolant pipes into rocker cover looks like it could do with a look at a wire brush! Does this simply remove from the rocker cover and is it better to replace this item? Again, are gaskets required?
Any comments appreciated 😂

General / How old is your lid?
« on: 20 February 2019, 09:42:46 am »
Ok, I know all the arguments about how much to spend on a lid and valuing your head etc etc, but my lid is now about 5 years old but infrequently used.
So, I wonder how old yours is?
