How much is your FZS 1000 worth?
« on: 08 March 2017, 03:23:57 pm »
I have just  seen a 2004 FZS  1000 with 17000 miles and 4 owners  in beautiful  nick on eBay from a dealer  for £3800, is he having  a laugh?

I have a very  nice 05 blue one with 18600 miles and I am happy with it  and would  not  sell it, I was just a bit surprised at the asking  price, but it looks  good  for use all, if that is what they think it is worth. Do you think someone  will pay that much?

Mine is a 2005, and I think it had the same mileage, 17k. It was absolutely immaculate (still pretty good two years later, despite at least another 20k miles), and I paid £3.3k for it. I thought that was overpriced, even for a dealer, but it was relatively local, and came up at the right time. I did try to talk the price down a bit, but they weren't having any of it. £3800 though - that really is stretching it a bit too far I think. I'd want an even lower mileage for that money, and it really would have to be pristine.

I think, like a lot of things it all depends on how much someone wants whatever's for sale. How many "minters" do you let go because they're perceived to be too expensive, before something more "reasonably" priced comes along, if at all. Like anything the older stuff gets a clean example gets harder to find. Last week I read in MCN that a 1968 Velocette Venom Thruxton, unrestored, went for just short of 24 and a half grand. Someone had one, someone wanted one and the rest is history.

a lot depends on you idea of value

i have sold properly the most expensive gen 1 ever back in 2003 for 7k last year a gen 2 for 8k

i have bought a mint 05 with less than12k on the clock for 1800 quid

value is what you put on it

Mr chrisps bike was a cracker for the price it ticked his boxes and he had no reason to complain

there out there just gotta look or be lucky

I see that the bike is still for sale on eBay.  May be that is saying  something about  the price.

got mine for 2k and I think that had 17k on it so I didn't mind spending a few quid on new shock and springs

Which would you rather have, an MT-07 with 7500 miles for £3750 or an FZS with 7500 miles for £3750?  That's the value.

Aside from the fact you won't be able to ride the FZS in London after 2019, they're both essentially 'almost new'.

Just seen a 05 fzs with just 750 miles in beautiful  condition on eBay  for £3500, the best one I have seen and I think  a very good price.
I noticed  the other high  priced one's  are still for sale.

If you have something and someone else wants it enough, they'll pay the asking price.

As far as these low milage, so called mint condition bikes are concerned, though. what do you want the bike for?

If you want to just look at it, or even keep it as an investment, fine, but if you want to ride it I'd go for one that's seen a bit more use. If you don't ride it, seals are more likely to harden, contacts still corrode and the top end hardly ever sees oil.

Mine's regularly cleaned and serviced, and runs perfectly, but it's approaching 50K, which is "average" for a 13 year old bike, so I'd never get these prices for it, no matter how good it is. But that's the point, it's a bike for riding, not a museum piece.

Related to this topic, I wonder how much value riders put on their Fazers for the insurance.

Mine is pretty much as described in the post above this one and I put it at £2,000

Tho I'm pretty sure I'd get nowhere near that if it was totalled.

Also - I rode one at a dealer in 2014 before I bought mine - it was an 04 bike and in pretty good condition, except a few small bubbles in the tank paint lower edge area, which my qualified friend told me were rust bubbles and the dealer said was "just" a shabby respray. They wanted £3,300 and those are the two reasons I bought elsewhere. But at the right price I'd have taken his arm off. Other than the bubbles it was a gorgeous bike, very comfy to ride and had a full set of boxes. Mileage was around 30,000.

I paid £1800 for the one I've got.

My brother got an immaculate one with 8000 miles for under £3000 last year
If it's broken, it's not fixed.

Yet another high priced fzs1000 on eBay, 06 plate with 3000 miles and looks immaculate £4500 .
I have noticed that nearly all the high priced fzs are still on eBay so I wonder if it is just to much, some of them have been there  a very long time.
Makes me think how far the price will go.

Summer now, so that will certainly have an effect on the advertised prices. Whether or not the sellers actually get what they're asking for...

Mine is now worth far more to me than pure money terms. It is my 5th one on the trot, and it has taken me to more places than any of the others, and is the first one I have got to the spec I want. Although I too have only insured it for a value of £2000, that amount could never replace what it means to me.

LOL  ..........£1500 would seem more like it..

Sold my  02 gen1 fazer 1000 with 5000miles for around £2000 back in year 2008

If an old 04 gen1 is worth £3800 then my 08 gen2 must be worth £6000.... ;)

My bike has all the worthwhile mods but has 43,000 on the clock and looks as tatty as a tatty thing. But goes so well and is fast as fook. Always surprising mates on their big 1400 sports tourers. What's it worth, bugger all but massive smiles for me
