I recall the thing about getting the tyres off the floor was to stop the rubber drying out against the concrete!
I thought that was more to avoid cracks and perishing at the flat spot where the sidewall bulges.

Try and keep wels spatter from sticking to the chain, it'll soon wear the sprockets out again, good luck with it.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: How do I make my 600 fazer faster?????
« on: 08 November 2011, 07:01:01 pm »
:lol :lol :lol  I had 130 the other day and want more speed. Im so glad I sold my bandit for a fazer.
Hold the throttle a bit longer then and you'll get a bit more, mine is standard apart from a stainless downpipe and delkevic stubby can (without baffle fitted), checked the speedo last weekend with gps selotaped to the bars, clock said 150mph while gps said 140mph, mind you I'm only little so maybe a diet would be the first thing to try :lol
As said before if you want more than 140mph a budget built 600 isn't realy the right choice of bike.
How often do you get a clear enough bit of dry road to realy go that fast anyway.

As far as leds are concerned they are far too directional for a main light and not that great for a side light for the same reason, the spectrum is also too restricted to give a good view as lots of colours will just not reflect the light, the same as low pressure sodium streetlights make everything yellow, brown, or invisible, if you're not mugged by a well tanned chinaman forget the ID parade being useful.

For some cracking new rock music check out www.soulweaverband.co.uk for their new album 'Liberty' They are an independant band with sod all money for publicity and absolutely foccing great, if you buy the tee shirt as well you'll be helping oldmotherfoccer's holiday fund as well.
You just have to love a pub band that does their own stuff and doesn't do mustang sally! (they don't do westlife either)
I've known them all for a long time now and they are lovely people well deserving of support, while you are at it look up the track remebrance day they did a few years ago for help the heroes and feel guilty enough to buy a poppy...
Come on you miserable foccers get yer money out!

I'm sure it can't help the families involved to have a long drawn out inquiry just to find the bleeding obvious, life is dangerous and no amount of finger pointing will bring anyone back or heal anyone of injuries.
My sympathies go out to all involved.

I use a local garage and have no problems, I have a caberg flip-face lid and usually pop the front up at low speed or stopped anyway, also had no hassle in the local tesco garage.
I bet they had a camera aimed at you somewhere anyway.
I would do the same, if they want me to strip off I'll go elsewhere with my cash.

I've had it happen on boat outdrives, once the edges of the dogs get rounded over they push themselves out of mesh like a cam as soon as you put any power through them, usually causing selector forks to flex or bend, replacement is the only way out, also check the gear it's meshing with as that will be worn too and will soon were a new gear.

When one of my old xt600's got nicked it took the police 4 days to find it, it had been left on it's sidestand outside the police station for 3 of those days, cosmetically it was buggered though :( with a few other bits of damage.
I hope the scrotes get collared but don't suppose they'll get much in the way of punishment.

If it's through lack of oil the cam would be first to nip up I'd have thought, the bore will be mostly splash fed, a piston nipping up can be down to not gapping the rings properly although most standard rings are pretty much right as they come out of the packet, still need checking though.
I had an xt600 nip up after about 100 miles from a rebore and wiseco piston job, a quick clean up of the bore and piston and it's still going strong.
Without a close up look it's all guess work.

I weighed up the motad vs sandy bike spares bit and once you include the gaskets they were within a couple of quid so went local, I believe the sandy pipes are made local too.

It's not got a chrome bore has it? That can mean a new barrel rather than hone/rebore if it's scored, still leaves the option of resleeving as long as you can find the right set of rings.

The standard downpipes rot too badly for bodging paste to do much good, I've just fitted the sandy bike spares stainless downpipes via ebay and they fitted great, add a delkevic end can and it sounds nice too.

It's only a ten minute job to look, 5 cap head screws and 1 10mm hex bolt on the gear lingage, measure the thickness and put it back together.

ALSO !

can someone also tell me why a lot of garages will only deal with LOOSE WHEELS?!

cheers!
They don't know how to re-fit them :lol
There may be an insurance issue at some car based garages about working on bikes.

With the head off you could knock any remaining ceramic out so it's hollow and weld up the hole, as the weld cools it will shrink the thread by a few thou making it looser, weld a nut to the top and away you go, bit of a git having to take the head off but as said before that ceramic is hard as feck and going to do lots of damage to the engine if left in.
