Finally got round to this. I think the mt09/tracer/mt10 range is a successor to the fazers, obviously there are differences but it’s what I’ve moved onto and I wanna stay on the site. I replaced my FZS 1000 with an Mt09 as it just sort of happened. I had my Fazer advertised on fb walked into a bike shop, sat on the mt and was sold on it. After pxing my fireblade 929 for the new bike, a buyer came thru for the Fazer. The Mt09 is a lot lighter, very quick acceleration but obviously not as practical as the Fazer. A tracer would be more like on to be fair, but as they share the same engine and I’ll be using mine for touring and scratching, you know.

It’s likely my MT09 will be written off so I’d be looking for a new bike. If anyone has a nice FZ1 2nd gen to sell naked or faired I’d be interested in more info. Also consider a cheap gen 1 FZS1000 as long as exup valve is ok.

clutch pull on the mighty 1000 is fatiguing for my weak man hands so I sourced one of these and just fitted it up. Took a bit of messing about as it reduces the throw of the main clutch cable so you need to remove as much slack as possible, anyway I did a video of it, 2 parts as my neighbour walked past as I was recording. Been on test and it selects gears and neutral ok , 1st attempt without taking all slack up at the clutch case end resulted in clutch not fully disengaging with lever pulled in. I realise this isn’t an issue for most riders but could be for those like me who ain’t getting any stronger. I considered an hydraulic option but for £15 this is as light as I think you will get. My Ducati 996 hydraulic clutch was so heavy it needed 2 hands. https://youtu.be/-pcF8zS1ZTEhttps://youtu.be/5bv60-ElrHM

decided I want to keep the bike standard, I have a set of barely used -1/+2 sprockets, front is rubber damped and rear is a steel JT. Speedohealer is compatible with a lot of yamahas. I’ll do the lot together for £60 plus postage costs.

i notice when I switch my lights on sometimes the clocks go off then come back on, also if I pull the pass light switch in. I did a test with the lights disconnected and that stopped the clocks going out. I’ve checked the battery voltage and it drops quite a bit when the lights go on, I guess it’s enough to cut the clocks out. Has anyone altered their lights to fire them off a relay? Would it make any difference? Gen 1 2001
