Coolant Leak
« on: 18 December 2011, 05:37:40 pm »
I just topped up the coolant on my '99 600 and within a couple of minutes run time it began to dribble from the little circular hole between the cooling fins on offside. The nearside hole stayed dry. Once there was heat in the engine it stopped dripping and when a little cooler(not cold)I started it again. This time the hole stayed dry.It looks as if the head gasket is below these fins so what do ya reckon.Have I got to spend some long days/nights in the garage or what are these holes for. Anyone with previous experience or knowledge of this out there.I'd appreciate any thoughts on this before I get stuck in. :'(

does the bike live outside?

IIRC, that little hole just drains the plug wells, so running it will warm up and liven any water that landed in there while it was parked in the rain (if indeed it does live outside!)

Wow ....what a lifeline you just threw me Richfzs. The bike stood in rain before I did the job plus I spilt some coolant and washed it off maybe a bit too much.I will keep my eye on it in anycase. Cheers mate.

the radiator cap is directly above that drain hole so you probably just spilt a bit of coolant into it.

Happy days! As a small extra bonus you now know that that drain hole isn't blocked  :) .
