Is a "Starter Circuit Cut Off Relay" a long version of saying a Starter Relay unit?

That's expensive for something you'll rarely use. I would still persevere with the broom handle, it's always worked for me, even the very first time when the bolt seemed extremely tight. Maybe get someone to assist you holding the fork leg down onto the handle while you try to undo it.

Check the carb rubbers are on properly and sealed.
Had my carbs fitted back on years ago and one edge of carb rubber #2 had folded in on itself leaving an air leak.
Because it was #2 and hidden it was only spotted on removal again by a different mechanic.

Saw my dyslexic mate protesting outside a garden centre glued to the road holding up a sign that read
''Top soil now''  :rollin

You need to get a snow plow fitted to the front of your bike.  :lol

I readjusted the TPS, got it to 5000 rpm , and i started the engine again. I could notice some 10% improvement but the problems are still all there. The engine is running very rough, jitters and vibrates

When you say you readjusted it, what did you readjust it from?

Out of interest, what did you pay for a new starter relay?
There are some dodgy ones about, I bought a cheap one and it literally fell apart after a few months resulting in zero power.
The prices vary quite a bit.

Look at the large box in blue above the last comment at the bottom.
Remember, you only want to check the TPS for now, don't go adjusting it as you'll need to sort out #3 carb first.

The videos arent mine but thats exactly how it feels and sounds. I am clueless what to do next, because i need to travel soon but the bike is uncomfortable to drive even for 2 km.

As above, do a quick TPS check.

Was just reading the stuff that you've done to it on YouTube.
Bike sounds very rough tbh.

No mention of checking the TPS though? Wondering if you've balanced the carbs with a dud TPS and it's made things even worse.
Add to that, you also mention carb #3 may not be adjusted properly either via the screw?
It can all add up to a bad scenario like you have.

Great videos by the way, extremely helpful to get a real idea at what's going on.

« on: 18 July 2023, 03:58:55 pm »
Have you swapped plugs 3 & 4 over to 1 & 2 to rule them out?
Plugs can and do go bad from experience, especially if you already had issues before.
Snipping about 7mm off the ends of each HT lead then refitting the caps can help too, as over time the internal wires can sink into the plastic of the leads due to heat.

Are they original caps, or aftermarket ones?

63
Odd, I'm sure you used to be able to include YouTube links.

Tried a few times, it wasn't shrunken or anything, just not there at all?

64
Found this really decent video that gets more fascinating the more you watch it, which shows and explains the inner workings of a transparent carburettor.

Dunno why, but i can't show the link?

Just do a search on YouTube for "How Does A Carburetor Work? | Transparent Carburetor at 28,546 fps Slow Mo - Smarter Every Day 259"

FZS600 Fazer / Re: HELP - unknown bolts
« on: 07 July 2023, 08:46:36 pm »
They look to me to be engine casing type bolts, sprocket cover ? If you have ended up with them because you mixed up your own bolts for ones that came off the bike then the slightly worrying thing is that they are different lengths for a reason and your bolts will not be the same length --- shorter or longer than they should be.

Sprocket cover has 2 longer bolts, not 3.

My insurance through Ageas is called "Future Classic Vintage" but maybe we have to go another 10 years to match the RD. Perhaps to be a classic part of it is how rare they are ?
My bike is May 1998 we had a thing a few years ago to find the oldest fazer and if \I remember right it was mine - by a few days. I think the bike in the UK was released in May ?. Although I brought it 3 years later.

how does one find out when their bike was made/registered? ive a 98 too

« on: 17 June 2023, 03:17:00 pm »
hi guys
will a set of forks from a 1998 fazer fit a 2000 model
the only difference i can see is the preload adjuster on the 2000 model
regards adrian

Exactly that, I have 98 forks on my 2000.
Never felt like the adjusters did anything anyway.
Don't forget the fork oil levels will be different without the adjusters, you'll need a bit more in them, as per manual.

All Yams since 1990 can use E10, use it or don't, just stop scare mongering.

Super unleaded just gives me a placebo feeling of the bike running better and giving more mpg. It probably isn't and doesn't but i will enjoy the occasional placebo.

It's because it's not a placebo effect at all. If you filled my tank with E10, then again with 99 RON ethanol free ESSO Supreme+ and i had to guess which was which i reckon i'd get it right every time. Some of us actually have a sensitive side and can tell these things apart.  :lol

As for which bike, i've only ever ridden the Boxeye which has served me very well and has been great fun, but the fact that the Foxeye tidied a few issues up, like the lights, slightly bigger tank, etc, would make my vote sway towards it.
I nearly bought a 1000 a few years back but realised i simply didn't need it, and it would be more unnecessary expense to maintain, more insurance, more fuel, etc, plus more weight which certainly wouldn't be welcomed due to what seems like constant roadworks and traffic on my journeys these days.

Hi
Can anyone tell me the eye to eye measurement of the
25mm / 35mm / 45mm jack up bones.

Thanks

Doubt you'll find that info, I've tried before in the past.

Another link here though.

There are pictures on Page 4 of the link I gave above (the black one above the red one)
And right at the end of Page 5 is the link to the cable heat protector tubing.

This is what I used to improve the lights. New! LED bulb kit H4 Nano technology for your Car and Motorcycle reduced the current from 8amps to 3.5amps
I was used  the Osram night breakers for years, but the dims were not much better than the normal bulbs.

Are these a lot better?
Don't forget we annoyingly have different bulb sizes on each size.
Mine appear to be, All size bulbs, but the H7 has not got the slim line design  yet. When I had a Boxeye over 20 years ago I modified the left side to take a H4. Slow tedious job but was worth it.

Yeah, it's the left side H1 (not H7, you got me thinking again there) fitting that has prevented me from trying out fancier bulbs in the past.

Both bulbs are pretty much the same as far as light output is concerned, and both good quality bulbs. But it's not the bulbs that are the problem, it's the reflector part inside the headlight housing. To be blunt, it's shite.
So although the replacement bulbs will improve things a little bit (i have them on my bike), and the power isn't an issue, they still aren't close to how they should really reflect on the road with decent bulbs fitted, so don't expect too much.

What a lot of us have done is buy some (10w+) 12v LED spotlights which use very little power consumption in comparison to the standard headlights, but are much brighter at night, and can also be left on as daylight running lights as well.
I bought a waterproof on/off switch for them that's mounted on the handlebars, and the lights i mounted on the side of the radiator. I also bought some heat proof tubing to protect the wires from the radiator heat.

Thanks a lot for the reply. But are they even legal in the EU countries? and one more thing...should they run in addition to the normal low and high beam lights, or they should work only separately, maybe only with the position light ofc?

Zero legal issues. Aim them low to light the road up,rather than blind people.
Passed many Mot's, in fact my examiner asked where to buy them, he liked them.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Hyperpro spring
« on: 14 May 2023, 12:08:02 pm »
I’m considering replacing standard rear shock spring with a Hyperpro, the bikes done 51000 miles and I’m going to be carrying luggage on it too.  The other option is the less favourable but potentially better YSS total rear shock replacement. Anyone out there with these mods can shine a light on?
Also the forks , I’m going to change oil to 15w but is it worth putting in progressive springs too?
Thanks for any help

If i was you i would try the oil upgrade first, on its own, and see what you think as it may be enough for your needs.
