General / Varifocals and riding
« on: 13 June 2023, 08:18:22 am »
Hi All, me again!  LOL

I'm of an age where varifocals are needed.

What would you guys who wear them recommend for riding?  Use your varifocals or use normal glasses/contacts to keep peripheral vision?

Just trying to work out best options and where best to put my money.

General / Re: Insurance claim going to court
« on: 13 June 2023, 07:28:21 am »
Cheers guys.  There are now 2 solicitors dealing with this, one for the hire car, one for the accident damage.  Both have confirmed I'm just a witness, no need for a solicitor, no need to worry about costing me in legal fees.  FEW!

Neil, the chap who hit our car even got out of his car, gave my wife contact details (inc phone number), apologised and said he was shocked, too.

Then the insurance contacted me some months later to say he is saying he didn't hit our car and that he only got out of his to see why my wife was walking towards his car.

Lying through his teeth, guessing because there was no damage to his car and he didn't fancy paying his excess and losing no claims to fix someone else's car :-(

Had I known he would lie, I prob would have got the damage fixed myself rather than risk my no claims/excess.

General / Insurance claim going to court
« on: 05 June 2023, 06:24:42 am »
Hi All,  hoping the Foccer font of knowledge can help.  about 3 years ago our car was hit from behind while stationery at lights.  We claimed on our insurance for the damage (just cosmetic) and then later on found out the chap who hit us is denying he hit us.  We don't have dash cam, sadly.  Only proof we have is photos and ones that show 3 distinct marks on our bumper that match in size to the large Mercedes badge on the front of his car.  The photos also have a ruler in the pic showing the distance between the marks.

3 years on, it's going to court.  I'm suspecting that unless he bottles it and admits liability that it will go 50/50?  Don't know how these things work.

My main question is, do we need a solicitor?  Have others been in this boat?  It's the insurance company that are claiming the money back, so it's not our case as such.  We've filled in forms saying what happened and are now awaiting a court date.

Any help gratefully received :-)

Hey all, what do people make of these?  Surely better than our standard candle bulb?

If you have experience should I go fanned or non fanned?

Cheers

Yep, still got my Fazer, even if I could afford another bike, I really don't want another bike.  Still love my fazer.  She needs a replacement hugger at the mo, the old one has broken at the fixing points.  Still keep looking out for a better/bargain rear shock.

We must have a LOFO meet this year, even if just for a bacon butty and a cuppa somewhere.

Mine has come on twice in 8 years.  Once in traffic having ridden to Hastings in 30 degrees plus heat and a brisk ride and straight into traffic.

The other time was a hot summers day, I was balancing my carbs.  Head deep in the engine trying to find those pesky screws and VROOOOOOOOOOOOOM scared the absolute shit out of me!   :rollin :rollin :rollin

Cheers Mr Sharp, but is that what you did when they were brand new and untreated, or what you continue to do every couple of years? Do I even need to re-treat them?

Morning Focers,  so, another job that I've been putting off for a few years now, but now have no excuse not to do is giving our internal doors some love.

They are oak doors from Howdens and had Danish Oil applied when they were new.

Looking to give them a clean and a re-oil what are your top focer tips for this?

soapy water?  light sanding?  fine wire wool?

Happy lock down all :-)

I buggered up the quote thing but, to reply to Darrsi's quote below:

"Bit weird her fella was on holiday on Valentines Day, he could've planned that one a bit better, but there are no doubt many factors that contributed to her way of thinking resulting in this tragic outcome.
Very sad.  :(  "

The CPS had stopped them seeing each other.  Her sister had tried to get the CPS to change the bail conditions to allow them to spend Christmas together but she was denied.  Those same bail conditions were in place up until the day she died.

FZS600 Fazer / Headlamp Adjustment
« on: 11 December 2019, 06:11:34 am »
Hi All,

I rode my bike in the dark for the first time in ages last week and there were times when I could see FOC all on the road in front.  Turns out, my lights, as crap as they already are are pointing up into the trees.

Is it easy enough to lower the beam or is it a job for the pros?  I suspect even if I do it myself it won't be correct according to the MOT because I don't have the correct measuring kit, am I right?

Ta all.
