FZS600 Fazer / Re: Fork seal replacement problems.

Managed to sort it out in the end. Yes it was jammed in the down position. Managed to free it and get everything where it was supposed to be. Many thanks for the advise you guys gave me, believe me it really was appreciated.

I assume that all the fork internal components fit inside the stanchions but when you line them up alongside it doesn't look like there is enough room for them. I know this sounds like a stupid question but does the damper rod go inside the fork tube or inside the slider?

FZS600 Fazer / Fork seal replacement problems.
« on: 07 August 2021, 06:03:22 am »
Recently found that one of my forks was leaking oil and decided that the seal was probably shot. I have had the bike for 16 years and it's been out in all weathers and never let me down. Had a look on YouTube to see if it was possible to change the seals myself. Watched a few videos and it all looked pretty straight forward so I bought all the relevant bits such as seals, new circlips, bushes, and thicker fork oil. After a little bit of trouble managed to get the forks off and stripped down. Replaced the seals but then found that for a reason that totally alluded me when all the internals are put back inside the spacer protrudes about 4 inches above the top of the stanchion and I cannot put the end cap back on. I followed the instructions on the videos exactly but something is wrong. Any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Does anyone out there have any of the following parts for sale for a 2000 FZS boxeye ?

Radiator
Fan
Coolant pipe number 5 ( I think that is what its called, its the metal pipe that connects the radiator to the rubber pipe from the water pump on the lower left hand side of the bike)

Parts must be in good working condition, any help appreciated  :D

For Sale & Wanted / Radiator Fan And Pipe 5
« on: 14 June 2019, 04:15:06 pm »
Does anyone have these items for sale ? My trusty 600 has been off the road for a couple of years and when I finally managed to get the courage to pull off the covers I found that the the coolant system has been attacked big time by rust, the pipe has rotted through and the fan is stuck fast almost certainly beyond recovery. I think the pipe I need is called pipe 5, its the metal one alongside the radiator that connects to the rubber one at the bottom of the left hand engine case.

Smiled a lot because I am back on the road after a 2 year absence. I forgot how brilliant it is to ride a good bike. Happiness is flies in the eyes  ;)

FZS600 Fazer / Centre Stand Siezing
« on: 10 February 2017, 06:15:22 pm »
My old FZS 600 boxeye has many slightly annoying quirks but this one really gets my goat. Despite fairly regular spraying with wd 40 and all in one oil it keeps partially siezing and making impossible to put the bike on the stand. Is there anyway of ending this recurring problem before I take it off and bin the bloody thing entirely. Any advice much appreciated. Ta  :eek

FZS600 Fazer / New Front Brake Discs
« on: 27 December 2016, 03:15:11 pm »
I have been looking on the net for some new front brake discs for my beloved 2000 FZS 600. I have seen a set advertised at £150 for a pair by a company called wizbiz on eBay. Does anyone know if they are any good or should I give them a miss. The low price is very tempting but I don't want to waste my cash and a load of old crap. Also does anyone have any viable alternatives ? Your help, opinions and advice would be much appreciated.  :)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Odd Behaviour of Speedometer
« on: 01 August 2016, 01:07:46 pm »
I own a 2000 FZS 600 and a modified 2001 Gen 1 1000 both of which I love. My brother has always liked the Gen 1 so he recently purchased a 2004 model for himself. In order to get a proper feel for the bike he recently went on a road trip from South wales to Leicester with his mate who was riding a Triumph Sprint. On the way there were quite a number of average speed cameras (50 mph) on sections of their chosen route. He said both he and his mate were using their speedometers to judge their speed but his mate always seemed to be going significantly faster than my brother during these camera sections. Also when they got there his mates trip meter said the journey had taken 176 miles whilst my brothers said 192. The google estimate was about 170 miles. Is there any historical issues regarding speedo problems with Gen 1 fazers ? I told him I am unaware of any but I thought I would chuck this out to see if anyone knows better or has any possible explanations for the eccentric behaviour  of his speedometer?

The Yamaha dealer in Bridgend is Thunder Road, but there is also a branch of J T Morgan motorcycles there as well.  :)

I have often pondered on the mysteries of motorcycle electrics. Sometimes stuff just seems to have a mind of its own and sometimes it's my cack handed incompetence with a soldering iron. Never a dull moment but many confusing ones.  :lol

Thanks for all the info and advice guys. Decided not to go with the new light weight, high tech and expensive lithium option. After much thinking and beer drinking I decided to go with a standard battery and bought a Motobat for £55. Nice that it comes precharged so just bolt it in and you're ready to roll. Seems quite well built and has a strong cranking charge. I like the twin terminal thing they do which is good if you want to attach addition electrics without the hassle of having to unbolt the main terminals when you need or want to remove the extras, plus its a nice custard yellow colour  :lol

I don't know if any of you guys have actually noticed that in fact red just seems faster, black is more sexy and stealthy but silver is defo the sharper and quicker of the old box eye bastards. Can't comment on the fox eye 600's "colour-speed" ratios as I have never owned one (After a box eye it seems like a step backwards).  :lol Strange tho is the fact that silver gen 1's are not so fast, it seems that with the bigger brothers then blue is by far the faster hue, I am talking of course about the earlier galaxy blue and not the awful dull midnight blue that appeared just before the gen 1's were replaced by inferior machines.  :b

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / New Battery
« on: 10 April 2016, 03:57:55 pm »
I have to replace the battery in my gen 1. Question is, is there any advantage apart from the weight saving of fitting a lithium ion battery instead of an old school acid battery ? I can get a basic acid battery for £30 or a gel battery for about £45. The cheapest lithium I have found is about £74. Is there any justification is spending twice the amount on one of these fancy new lithium jobs ? Have any of you guys bought a lithium one and if so what do you think ?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / More Exup woes and cheap Exup Cables
« on: 27 March 2016, 02:22:18 pm »
When checking my Exup for the first time the other day I was dismayed to find it's in quite a bad state. Only one of the 3 bolts holding on the cover was still there, other 2 broken off in the casing by the previous owner of the bike, it gets better, the two allen bolts that hold the actual Exup valve in the exhaust body are completely rounded off inside and so badly corroded I seriously think they will snap if I try and get them out. If that wasn't bad enough, I also noticed a significant amount of slack in both cables, so after spraying the pulley and cables with enough wd40 to cook an egg I decided to adjust the cables to take out this slack. More trouble followed, both the cables had obviously never been adjusted and were quite tight,a bit more wd40 I thought. I managed to slacken one off without too many swear words but the other alas no. As I began to adjust the cable the bloody thread on the adjuster snapped off inside the adjuster itself. As Mr Hugh Grant would say "bugger bugger bugger". I therefore have to replace the Exup cables now and I nearly had a heart attack when I saw the price. I did find a cheaper alternative on Flea Bay but I dont know much about them, are they worth a gamble ? :rolleyes
Any advice or help greatly appreciated  :'(

Looked at the casing and it looks like the previous owner snapped off or lost 2 of the 3 casing bolts  :'( Hope he hasn't mangled the 2 mounting bolts for the EXUP itself as they dont look too clever. I have sprayed them with lots of "Silkopen" and have left them overnight in the hope they will come off without too much drama. Hoping this will do the trick. Fingers crossed and wish me luck  :eek

Good Idea. If enough of us can get together to make it worth Mike's time perhaps we might be able to persuade him to visit more often. Just a thought  :D
