Just a wee update, to share my good news, and for info.

Got my dash back from electronics company, with a years warranty too.
Turns out it’s a very common problem with Fazers, as well as other makes and models. It was a small component inside which controls the power going into the dash, sorry I can’t remember the specific name.
He has fixed over 200 units for Fazers alone, disregard other makes.
So it’s now all back together and working like new again, and mileage etc all as it was when I sent it away.
It took just under two weeks from when I posted it, to when I got it back. They are very busy, which is a good sign.
Definitely worthwhile doing this if anyone has the same issue, even just to send it for testing, which is £25.
I am delighted that it’s all fixed, just wish I hadn’t spent so much time checking and cleaning connections etc, but hey ho, sh1t happens  :D
£145 well spent I reckon.

Hi again.
Having now checked every connector, fuse, cable, and still having the intermittent display problem, I’m now wondering if it’s maybe an internal fault with my display unit. I’ve opened it up, and all looks good, so maybe there’s a wee glitch somewhere in it.
I’ve found a place in Kings Lynn, who specialise in display and dash issues for bikes and cars. I’m thinking it might be worthwhile sending it to them for diagnosis, and repair if needed.
Has anyone heard of / used Scorpio Electronics in Kings Lynn for this kind of issue? They seem to be pretty good, going by the reviews etc.

Many thanks

Thanks again for your advice and info Grahamm 👍
I’ve stripped and cleaned the main connectors into the starter solenoid, even though they were very clean anyway. Had another go at wiggling different cables and parts of the loom. Still no joy :'(
I don’t have a multimeter and I’ve no clue how to use one, plus I’m not too keen on messing too much with electrics, except for basic stuff. I really should get my head round using a multimeter.
So today I decided to throw in the towel, and took it to my local bike garage. Initial thoughts were ignition cables somewhere, but given that the bike runs perfectly and the N light works as well as indicators and other lights, he says it might be a fault in the PCB inside the display unit itself. Weird though, cos when it’s on it works fine, but then goes off again. So it may very well be a resistor on the PCB. So I’ve booked it in for them to sort it, but unfortunately they’re mega busy, so I need to wait for 5 weeks before taking it in.
Hopefully it’ll rain for the next 5 weeks, then I won’t feel so bad.  :D
I can still use the bike no problem, just need to be vigilant with fuel and speed.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the info Grahamm 👍
I’ve already opened the display with the screws. All looked secure and clean. I gave it a wee spray of contact cleaner and left it to dry out for a bit. The rev counter isn’t working either.
I’m pretty sure it’s probably something stupid like a dodgy connection, or wire, bit I just can’t gain enough access to check all the full wires in the loom.
My worry is, could it maybe be rectifier or stater?
I’m not really confident when it comes to bike mechanics and especially when it comes to electrics, so I’m really just trying different connectors etc.
It started to happen when my previous battery went flat, but now I’ve got new battery it’s still doing it.
Thanks again mate. 👍

Hi folks. Looking for some help. My display goes on and off randomly. I still have N light and indicator lights, but no revs or digi display. It goes on and off on its own accord. Even sitting still with ignition on. It doesn’t get worse or better during riding. I’ve checked the connections under the tank and seat, I’ve changed all fuses, I’ve removed and opened the display unit. Even wiggling wires around doesn’t make a difference. All the connections are in good shape, and all the wiring looks in good shape too. When the display is on it all works fine, but then it goes off and on again. I recently replaced the battery and still no joy.
Does anyone have any idea what I can check next? I’m at a real loose end with this. I kinda thought maybe an earth point issue, but I can’t find anywhere where there’s wires attaching to frame for ground.
I’d really appreciate any help or advice.
Many thanks in advance.
Marc.

Cheers Tommy. 👍
Aaahhh, Kinlochbervie, I love it up there, and that whole area, Durness, Lochinver, Bettyhill, absolutely stunning.
Yeah, just gotta wrap up around here just now. I’ve not been out as much this winter, last winter I was out more, as I was new and wanted out all the time, plus it wasn’t as bad last winter. Done a few wee local-ish runs recently, and couple of days ago I done a nice first Spring ride, to Glencoe, what a fab day, bloody freezing on Rannoch moor, but roads were kinda quiet, clean, and scenery as stunning as ever.
Next week I’m gonna do oil and filters change, couple of new tyres to get fitted, then I’m pretty much ready for a good year of plenty of runs, including a couple of camping trips up north west.
I have a fully faired S2 600, ‘09 plate. First bike, and loving every minute on it. Only mods are a couple of LED spots on forks, and a couple of wee red LEDs as additional brake lights😁 Oh, and of course a set of heated grips😀
Hopefully you’ll get a chance to visit NW Scotland again soon mate.
Cheers ....

Marc

Hi all, just joined the gang😀 had a wee look a few times, and decided to join in.
Been riding since Oct 2016, on a 2009 FZ6 S2. First bike, never been into bikes that much, then just decided to get out on two wheels. I’m loving every minute of it, wish I’d done it years ago. Learning something new every ride, mostly out myself😒 but happy enough with that. Live just north of Glasgow.  Love Glencoe and anywhere in north west highlands. Don’t know too much about bikes, but I’m learning as I go along.
Looking forward to joining in the chat, and maybe catch up with members at some point.
Cheers for now 👍
