Me and the brother in law did it in 2019, we rode down to Liverpool for the ferry. £395 return each for the rider and the bike, on the Island we booked a Bell tent on the football pitch at Castletown, I'm sure it was £50 per night each for the tent and bedding and a towel, they did quite cheap breakfasts and evening meals and opened the bar for drinks in the evening. There was showers and toilets to use on site. It was a 10 mile trek up to Douglas for the racing but we were later in booking so it worked for us. Hope that helps a wee bit.

Depending how big an area you are covering I would use 2x2 slabs. if its a big area 3x2's will cover it quicker but they are heavy and hard on your back if your not used to handling them.

Yes its the Sprint ST1050, 2009, I like it, it can sometimes feel a bit top heavy, I've never had or ridden an FZ1, I bought the Sprint after my first big bike a 2005 FZ6. this is my second one and never had any reliability issues with either of them apart from the datatool alarm frying the battery 350 miles from home on my way to the TT 2 years ago, but thats a story for another day :lol .

Have you replaced the fuel, modern fuel doesn't like sitting around, it seams to go stale and not want to burn, have you tried taking the plugs out and adding a little fuel into each cylinder?

My work has a whole fleet of class 7 Vauxhall Movanos, all the ones that were due MOT after the beginning of April had the extension applied the week they were due, as far as I know if you don't get the extension 3 days before the expiry date you can get in touch with DVLA here : :covid19mot@dvsa.gov.uk

General / Re: Tyre problem
« on: 13 April 2020, 11:38:22 pm »
It might be worth  coating the tyre and wheel with a strong solution of water and fairy liquid and wait for a few minutes this usually shows up air leaks.  slightly over inflating the tyre can help.

If you use warm water it sticks to the tyre better than cold.

Being an insulin using diabetic I need to renew my licence every 3 years, there's been a couple of times over the last 10 years when the renewal didn't come through, the first time it didn't arrive I phoned the DVSA and they said if I'd let it expire and hadn't renewed it I would have been prosecuted if I'd been stopped by the law,  even though it wasn't my fault.

Had one of the accident claim companies phone my mobile whilst at work the other day, I proceeded to tell the woman I was a medical marvel as I'd been decapitated in an accident a couple of years ago and had my head sewn back on, she took about a minute to click onto what I'd just said, she got the message and hung up after calling me a twat or something like that, my apprentice was doubled over pissing himself laughing.

FZ6 / Fazer / Re: How can I make the FZ6 clutch less snatchy?
« on: 17 March 2019, 01:00:40 pm »
When I had my 6 the clutch was very heavy,I changed the cable for a new one, made a big difference to the feel, it may be your cable is not smooth and giving you a snatchy action.

General / Re: How old is your lid?
« on: 28 February 2019, 11:29:40 pm »
I've had 2 new lids every 3 years since getting a bike in 2010, mainly because I sent both my first bikes down the road on their sides and my bonce hit the deck both times, the current HJC IS17 is doing well at 4 years, I still use the old one to take the bike to work which is about once every 3 months and only about quarter of a mile in town and thats only because I don't want the newest lid getting minging with oil and grease from working under the cars and vans.

If I remember right the wind going through the front mudguard makes quite a bit of sound, maybe try taking it off and see if its quieter. When I had my 2005 model it had a touring screen fitted, the wind hit me quite high up nearer my chin, I bought a standard screen and it was quieter as the wind hit my chest.

I use the orange m3 ones, but find they work better for me by putting the squared off end into my ear and the rounded bit out.

General / Re: Anyone had an HJC IS-16 and IS-17?
« on: 28 March 2018, 09:39:06 pm »
I have an IS-17 and think it is noisy but I wear earplugs so it doesn't really matter that much to me, its much lighter than the flip front Nitro I used to have though.

General / Re: Can camera vans get you when facing towards you?
« on: 26 February 2018, 10:02:31 pm »
One of my mates came round a corner onto a straight at considerable speed, seen the camera van and managed to get his foot up and over the number plate to cover it, never got "the letter" so must have managed to cover it in time.

It all depends what genre music you want to listen to? I sometimes listen to Magic Soul on the tablet, saves buying A DAB or its Radio 2 for me.

You can check the mot testers manual online, it gives test methods and reasons for rejections for the bike. Its a handy tool if you think the tester is being to strict.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Insurance claim
« on: 13 August 2017, 11:45:05 pm »
After a recent accident on my Triumph Sprint I made a claim on my insurance (Devitts), I got exactly  what I thought I would for my written off bike.

I was very impressed with the speed and professionalism of both Devitts and Zenith who underwrite their policies, I phoned and lodged the claim on the Tuesday, the bike was collected the following Friday and taken to 4th dimension in Surrey, I got a phone call on the Monday to say the bike was written off then a phone call on the Tuesday to agree a price and the cheque came in that Friday all in 3 weeks from making the call to getting the cheque.

Did the garage actually carry out the MOT or did they take it to a third party, if they are an MOT station they cannot charge more than the fee set by the DVSA, if they took it somewhere else they can charge extra to take it there and back etc. if they are a genuine MOT station and are overcharging I would bring it to the attention of the DVSA.

FZ6 / Fazer / Re: Does the ignition key fit the seat lock?
« on: 26 June 2017, 12:12:43 am »
The lock for the FZ6 seat is right above the rear wheel, crap off the wheel can cause the lock to seize up, when I had my one I greased up the cable and made up a cover using a bean tin to deflect the crap off the lock mechanism. Does your key turn in the lock as it my be the previous owner never used it and its corroded up, might be worth a squirt of something to try free the lock off.
