that kind of money for a 15 year old bike he will be hanging on to it for a while longer, yes it looks good but the lack of use will throw up its own problems as soon as you start using it.

You're right, I wouldn't part with 3K for it.

'Lowest Mileage Yamaha Fazer In The U.K'......

That's a bold claim. I assume he has evidence for this? :rolleyes

But he is claiming it's the lowest mileage out of ALL the Fazers in the UK I think.

How does he know what mileage all the others are on?

Even this one doesn't claim to be the lowest mileage in the U.K. but it must be a good contender. Must admit I was tempted but like the free spinning feel of my 50k miles one.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YAMAHA-FZS-600-FAZER-RED-ONE-OWNER-1735-MILES-YES-1735-MILES-UNIQUE-OPPORTUNITY-/172760418978?hash=item283952caa2:g:IfsAAOSwrfVZWPOL

That's more like it, yes- I could be tempted. It's got to start appreciating in value at some point.

I've got to admit that's stiff money even if the mileage is low but as I think has been previously mentioned a bike that sits unused for long periods could throw up problems and are those tyres OE ? thatll be an extra £200 for new boots then
However if you read through the modern classic bike mags ( practical sprtsbikes & classic motorcycle mechanics ) they all rate the 600 and have it as an "emerging classic" so 10 years from now it could be worth double that.
Not that I'd spend 3000 beer tokens on it but if you're a gambler looking to the invest some it might be worth a punt as SP paint scheme was only around a few years

Thats the problem, any old bike is now an " emerging classic " and is the reason for the silly prices that people want for anything with two wheels and an engine or even just a few boxes of random parts.

I bought my SP off of a taylor that uas almost 40k miles and somehow looks in better condition than this one......it is cleaner than my old 600 that had 9k miles when i got it. It's a fine example of how high mileage does not mean bad condition....plus it was half the price of this one.😎 Personally i feel the max price of any unused, brand new 600 should be no greater than half or the original price and i think they were £5K brand new, depretiation with age so in my opinion only this one is worth £2K.
Easiest way to go fast........don't buy a blue bike

I'm not so sure about this "emerging classic" thing at all.Where I live they're on about creating one of these "Low Emission Zones",and that would kill my Foxeye's value stone dead

From what I gather low emission zones ( if the same as central London ) are not applicable for cars and motorcycles but if its an ultra low emission zone then you're right but then you can only have euro 3 engine ( yup foccing EU) which is about a brand new bike BUT how long before it's euro4 only which will rule out any 600 that's not the new R6

Yep, the FZS600 is fine until April 2019, then ULEZ kicks in and it'll then cost you to ride into the centre of London (current congestion charge zone). We'll need to move to something from 2007 onwards or euro 3 (though getting exception for a pre-2007 euro 3 bike currently sounds tricky). Little to do with EU, more London mayor (past and present) trying to reduce pollution and using a pre-existing euro emissions standard as line in sand. Yes, there is a fair chance the ULEZ may extend to area within the North/South Circulars a couple of years later, but it's still difficult to gauge what effect it'll have on prices. As I'm sure they'll still be plenty of buyers who do need to commute in the central London, most bike buyers do search reasonably widely and so I expect any impact on value to be fairly localised to inner London.

Gotta say that if you are looking at buying a bike as an investment, well I wouldn't bother with the FZS600.  Simply too many of them about.  Also great bike that it is, is it really a bike that people will drool over in years to come?

This did make me think of one of the young lads at work.  He's always dreamed of owning a Ferrari.  He's got a well paid engineer's position.  He managed to get 20K together and bought a mid 90's F355 with 60K on the clock.  Many laugthed and I too thought it would probably skin him.  And yup, he's had to spend some serious cash on it now and again.  Not sure how long he's had it, maybe 5 or 6 years now, meanwhile he's got married, had a wane and he's managed to persaude the wife to let him hang onto it.  It still costs a certain amount to maintain and it's now kept for nice days only.  The reason the wife has not insisted he sell it is that he's just had it valued at 60K.  Not bad.

Who knew, 25 years ago, that  restored FS1E's would be selling for £5000 and Z1's for £20,000 nowadays?.

Rough, early, pedal equipped Fizzy's were offered for around £200 then. Now they are like The Holy Grail.

If we had known what was to happen we would have all been buying them up for the next to nothing and stashing them away.

It's very difficult to predict which bikes will be regarded as desirable/collectable  in years to come.

Here's one for a shade under £8,000 :eek (good luck with that). Cost around £160 new in 1973.

True.

But I put money on 1992/3 CBR900
1999 - 2001 R1

Already firming up.  Hard to find original ones, which is what you want, but they are out there and will eventually change hands for silly money in years to come.

VTR1000SP2 is rising rapidly in price, you already have to have a fat wallet to bag one.  SP1's are firming up too.

One thing about bikes as you move on from the 70's is the increasing amounts of plastic. It's easily marked and damaged and difficult to repair.

It looks from the photo's like there's damage on the left side - engine casing and petrol tank (garage scuffing?).

Overall, it doesn't look like it's worth that money though to me.
