I have just  seen a 2004 FZS  1000 with 17000 miles and 4 owners  in beautiful  nick on eBay from a dealer  for £3800, is he having  a laugh?
LOL  ..........£1500 would seem more like it..

Sold my  02 gen1 fazer 1000 with 5000miles for around £2000 back in year 2008

If an old 04 gen1 is worth £3800 then my 08 gen2 must be worth £6000.... ;)

Have anyone got any idea why my FZ1 gen2 engine will cut out (stalls) if I let the rpm's go below about 7000rpm's ?

Was fun trying to ride it home from work with having to keep the rpm' between 7k & 12k   :rollin

Fuel conducts electricity too and is isolated from the electrics to prevent a fire.
The Fuel pump electrics inside the fuel tank don't look isolated  to me...

I took these pictures of where my fuel pump connects inside the fuel tank

7
No there no separate fuse for the fuel pump..

I checked the fuel pump by taking it out and wiring it up to a 12volt battery..

I still need to find out if the fuel pump shorting out has damaged the imobiliser or ECU or a relay or something else..

It Looks like water getting into the fuel tank  shorted the fuel pump out..(I got about a litre of water out the fuel tank, which seems to get in from around the cap seal when it rains)

First thing I would do before stripping anything on the bike is make sure that the fins on the rad are perfectly clean as it may of had 47k of crap being throw at it... ;)

Been working on the bike today..

Found out by testing that the Fuel pump has failed and does not work and also that there no 12volt power getting to the wire connection plug that supplies the fuel pump

So it looks like when the fuel pump packed up it broke something else as well...:grumble....:wall....:grumble

I think the relay is in the tail section , sort of inbetween where the rider and passenger seat  sit,  if that makes any sense. Not sure how it is identified though.
Thanks...I take another look..

I notice there a tip up box or something under the rear seat (It has "UP" written on it) could this stop the fuel pump  running if it went faulty ??

11
Hoping someone can help

My FZ1 Gen2 will not start  :wall because there no power (12volt) getting to the fuel pump has anyone got any idea's what could be causing this problem ?

I looked for a Fuel pump relay but could not find one.. If anyone knows if there is a relay for the fuel pump can you reply with where it is ?

Thanks....

And I been doing all of nothing this bank holiday weekend.. :wall

As they say "There always next year"  ;)

I wouldn't get rid of the Exup valve on a gen1 as you most likely loose a lot of bottom/mid range power..

Plus the Exup valve on the gen1 makes an aftermarket exhaust silencer sound nice & quiet at low rpm... ;)

General / ABS question ?
« on: 22 November 2014, 04:40:54 pm »
Does anyone know if the ABS system on bikes is also designed to stop you from being able to flip the bike over front ways ??
(I.E over the bars)

ABS is there more for when you panic brake or there something on the road surface...

Examples would be
A Car pulls out right in front of you or a car in front of you jams on it brakes in the wet and you just automatically just grab a hand full of brake in panic mode

Or like what has happened to me more then once while braking
I have hit mud patches, sand patches, gravel patches, wet leaves, fuel/oil patches, wet drain covers, wet painted road lines/signs etc etc

My mate owned/rode a GPZ 1100r at age of 16 years old on L plates back in 1986

At the same 16 years of age I had/owned a  X7 250 / DR 400 / MTX 200 on L plates
At 14 year old I had KM100 and at 15 years old I had s RXS 100..

The laws for bike licences has totally changed over here now..Back then you could have 100cc at 14 and unlimited cc at 16... ;)

Looks like it has hard panniers mounts as standard that don't ruin the look of the bike.....At last..

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Headlight Switch
« on: 10 August 2014, 08:37:03 pm »
if I go a long time without riding it, then it can reduce the load on the battery for a while and get a bit of a better charge into it.
The alternator regulator is set to charge the battery at around the same 14volts with the headlights on or off while riding..
It really shouldn't make any difference..(apart from when at only idle revs)

I would have thought it was not an issue of voltage, but an issue of current? the headlights draw a current and therefore there is less available to go to the battery? either way, its making the alternator work harder than it needs to?
Gen1 charging specs
Charging system normal output, 14 V and 365 W at 5,000rpm)

And Gen2
Standard output 14.0 V40.0 A6500 r/min (550 watts)

Why do you guys want to turn the headlights off ??

I feel safer riding with my headlights on even in daylight..

Like the others above have said

For hammering around your local roads/town and only rare longer distance tours pick a Gen2
For riding 1000's of miles off into the distance pick a Gen 1

Also
a gen1 would suit taller people better
and Gen2 would suit shorter people better  ;)

Am 5ft 8" and I found my Gen1 seat was a little to high and my gen2 seat was the perfect height..
(think this is due to the width of the seat/fuel tank being more narrow on a gen2)
