FZS600 Fazer / bike fails under load
« on: 18 August 2019, 07:18:15 pm »
Well this is a new one on me, the bikes been running crap recently, cut a long story short I've not had the time or the inclination to keep on top of the maintenance for a while now.
Anyway, she (the bike) starts ok but as soon as I've put her in gear and tried to move off the revs die off and the engine cuts out.

When she's running she sounds like a sewing machine, camchain rattling like a good 'un but that's another story.

The bike used to take a bit of choke to start, now it's the opposite- the choke needs to be off and the revs at zero before the engine kicks into life. Another thing, once the bikes idling at stationary, if I rev the bike hard the engine cuts out. Any Ideas on where to look, as I've said if anyone can save me a bit of time with this one it's much appreciated  :)

FZS600 Fazer / new indicators
« on: 13 June 2019, 08:54:08 pm »
Gents, does anyone have any reccomendations for aftermarket indicators?
Have a look at the pic- I foolishly drove off with the chain still attached between the rear wheel and the givi arm  :o
If I go down the LED route rather than the bulb type, will I need to fit a new flasher relay? Any advice appreciated.

General / tyre plugs
« on: 23 May 2019, 11:04:26 pm »
Okay so the rear tyre gets a puncture, I only purchased it 3 months ago and it's probably done less than 1500 miles.  :'(
I've pulled a nail out of the tread and plugged it, clean puncture- easy fix with one of those kits. All's well as it's got me home safely.
Now the tyre pressures holding, What's the verdict? Should I get a new tyre asap or do I run it till it's ready for replacing? The bikes for commuting and as such I very rarely exceed 70 mph.

General / bike won't start!
« on: 11 March 2019, 08:35:19 am »
Ok so I got up this morning to go to work and the bike won't start!  :wall
Over the weekend and last night we've had rain, sleet and hailstones so I'm assuming water has got in somewhere. (The bike lives outside in my garden).
Electrics are working, the bike turns over strongly but doesn't kick into life. Tried with the kickstand up in case it's the switch.
Sprayed isopropyl alcohol on the plugs, up the leads and on the connector at the back of the coils, still not working!
Any Ideas on what to do next are welcome, I need to get the thing going as I've a big journey to do tomorrow!

General / Lets all get home safely.
« on: 18 February 2019, 10:30:47 pm »

Well having commuted through the winter's cold wet dark mornings and evenings without incident, it now seems like it's silly season once again on the daily commute.

2 incidents last week and one today, without going into details, has anyone else experienced the situation where cagers are 'looking' at you but not 'seeing' you?

Maybe i'm getting too old or something, If anyone has any top tips or can recommend a decent hi viz vest it's much appreciated.  :(

Keep safe out there lads.

FZS600 Fazer / Chinese coils
« on: 13 December 2018, 07:33:36 am »
Hi does anyone have any experience of fitting Chinese made HT coils? At £30 a pair, are they any good? I've fitted a few chines parts before and they've been OK- brake levers and foot pegs but never any electrics. Mines are packing up but i'm loath to buy a 2nd hand pair as they'll all be near knackered with some of them nearly 20 years old. Any input is appreciated.

FZS600 Fazer / carb diaphragm screws
« on: 01 May 2018, 02:17:45 pm »
Hi Gents has anyone had any luck removing the black plastic vac chamber covers to access the diaphragms? Carb no 2 isn't sliding as well as I'd like, as usual they're the typical Yamaha cross-head screws made of cheese.

General / Changes to the MOT
« on: 26 April 2018, 06:17:13 pm »
Apparently, from May there are new changes to the MOT?!? I'm not sure if it affects Motorcycles or not.
You will no longer be able to drive your car if it goes for the MOT before it is due and fails the test, In the past, as long as your car was roadworthy, you could keep driving it even after it failed, provided your old MOT was still valid. But now the second your car fails, it can be deemed 'dangerous', and that means a fine of up to £2,500 and 3 points on your licence.

So if your car fails the test and you have taken it to a test centre that does not do repairs what do you do? All MOT results are uploaded and stored, so any 'dangerous' faults go on the database straight away. So I would imagine there is every likelihood that you will be picked up by police cars having ANPR cameras on them if you drive it home, more money for the Government. :grumble

FZS600 Fazer / Centre stand spring
« on: 06 March 2018, 07:41:42 pm »
Hi, my centre stand spring has lost it's zing! Actually I think it's two springs? One inside the other maybe- has anyone any Ideas of the sizes I'm looking for or had any luck sourcing some new ones? Any ideas much appreciated. The stand works fine but it sort of floats between the fully raised up and half way down positions  :o
