ooh god - delboy got mentioned so lets just jump on in
after i split, blasted and painted my rear calipers i definatly replaced mine because after a while they do harden/deform. the problem is using the correct material and i researched like mad into this because i didnt want to F up and use the wrong stuff like nitrile which is something delboy would prob use if he needed to replace (yeah i have problems with a lot delboys stuff) the easiest kind of o-ring to get is made of EPDM thankfully du-pont are chemists and let us into there world by giving a compatability list https://mscrm-dupont.secure.force.com/CRG_TlargiGuide https://mscrm-dupont.secure.force.com/CRG_TlargiGuide -its your brakes - its your lives - its a couple of quid i would rather not scrimp on 82

can you show a picture of the petrol tank ding ?
i might have some rear pegs and hangers in the shed- will have a look later on (might be a new clutch cable aswell) i had a bit of a tidy up last month and a lot of things got thrown out but im sure i would have kept them for this reason 86

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Carb problems or is it something more?? Fazer 600« on: 27 January 2020, 06:30:48 pm »
i proper balancing is always worth the money - especially after a rebuild - mine were out by a mile once i finally got the carbtune a few years ago
a bench balance can be close but a proper job is always a benefit 88

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Single Seat conversion« on: 13 November 2019, 10:01:43 am »
it was the one thing that stopped me from doing the single seat swap on mine - did it on the really old fz600 though as it had a removable subframe so i just bought a spare off ebay and sliced that up and added a few connectors so i could swap between the two as and when i needed two seats - hmm theres an idea - plug weld some bolt on points so you have the worlds first removable subframe fzs

FZS600 Fazer / Re: exhaust blowing at headers.....« on: 26 September 2019, 11:05:09 am »
when i did my head rebuild about 5 of the studs snapped (after a week of plus gas and the wax trick)
all i could do was put the head in the pillar drill to pilot drill the snapped studs and use an extractor tool some did need a thread repair insert as removal was not an option so had to drill out rather than remove if you havent got the tools/confidence to do this have a look around for a local engineer shop (NOT A MECHANIC) its pretty simple for engineers to deal with and a lot cheaper than getting a mechanic to do it. so for the new studs - i would use loctite 222/242 as it is low/medium strength and only there to reduce galling DO NOT USE RED as if you need to remove the studs in the future you will hate yourself 93
FZS600 Fazer / Re: bike fails under load« on: 20 August 2019, 08:34:15 am »
i would be looking at the air filter first and giving a quick blast with the vacuum if you havent got access to compressed air
its the not needing the choke that makes me think that as it increases negative pressure in the venturi and pulls in more fuel hopefully the cam chain rattle is just cause by the tightener to be just before its next click 94

Some MOT places are more particular then others and it usually involves ignoring it or some insulation tape each year. Of course I can’t compare to how that would be tested outside of the UK.Maybe you could swap with Meldoxxas both 600 foxeye and 1000 have the same headlight. winner winner chicken dinner 96

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Fuel tank leak« on: 28 June 2019, 06:15:38 am »
i have used liquid metal to patch a badly welded chop tank and never gave me any problems (as long as cleaned properly)
as for missing bolt - take one of others out and measure it and buy a new one to replace - the yam parts ones are expensive for a simple bolt in comparison to what you pay in any engineering supplies place (5-10p each lol) 98

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Pilot screw seized« on: 27 June 2019, 12:31:53 pm »
im sure this just came up last week
i had same problem on a different set of carbs- i went round my local hardware shop and just bought a cheap set of extractors and used the smallest one and put a good amount of pressure on as i turned it anticlockwise, i didnt even predrill it - just put a small phillips in there gave it a smack and then turned it to create a center punch type indent (always drill after a center punch to make sure its centre and dont go too big) 100
FZS600 Fazer / Re: Rear caliper pin rounded!!!« on: 25 June 2019, 04:25:17 am »
first step - stop watching delboy
if you can get a thin maul grip in there you might be able to twist it after giving it some heat on the caliper make sure you remove the bugger from your lines and bike first and only apply heat to around the pin area i found this out by having knackered pistons and finding it cheaper to just replace the calipers but the pads on my old ones were better but pins were truely stuck in aswell as for splitting the calipers in half - not a bad plan but remember to get the o-ring replaced with the right type as found in link below https://www.efunda.com/designstandards/oring/oring_chemical.cfm?SM=none&SC=Brake%20Fluid getting the right o ring can sometimes be tricky because manufacturers dont tend to sell that particular oring as they dont like us mere mortals breaking open calipers (but sometimes it is needed- yep my chops calipers are open right now lol) |
