I am approaching 30k miles do you think l should replace the original rear shock?
If so what would be a good but reasonably priced replacement?
Thanks in advance.

« on: 05 August 2016, 02:32:58 pm »
Hi Orlando

Yes that is correct.
When l checked my dud one the primary reading was good but the secondary was about 6 which was low enough to stop that cylinder from firing.
As it was great fun getting at them, or do l mean boring :z , l changed the plugs as well.
Cheers

Primary is 1.19 to 1.61 and secondary is 8.5 to 11.5.
A few months ago l was suddenly running on 3 cylinders and found one of my coils was low, changed it and no problems since.
Was going to change all 4 until l saw the price.
Bought mine from Scooters-and-bikes on their Ebay site 261583; hell of a lot cheaper than Yamaha.
Phoned them first to check it was the right one and they could not have been more helpful, when it arrived could not tell the difference from the original, except of course it was the correct ohms.

Hi all.
I am now firing on all cylinders again :) , thanks for all the advice much apprecated.
A useful tip for others with the gen 2, as it is such a pain to get at the plugs if you have any reason to access them such as during a service then well worthwhile checking the coil resistance in each plug cap.
Don't forget each one has a primary coil and a secondary coil.
If any of them are down them change them.
Don't make the mistake l did by changing the plugs then putting bike back together without testing the coils, then have to take it all off again to change a coil.

Thanks Cellarman but don't think l will risk a secondhand one as mine looks good visually but without testing them you just don't know.
I'll bite the bullet and buy a new one afterall l'm saving a lot of labour charges by changing it myself.

Took all coils (plug caps) off and tested them, three of them had correct resistance reading but the one on the offending cylinder was 50% down so need to buy a new one.
Just looked on the net and they seem to vary in price from around £40 each to £80 each.
Any recommendations/suggestions would be very useful.

By the way while l was "playing" thought l would check air filter, really bunged up with chewed bits of all sorts including nut shells, a mouse must have had one hell of a Xmas party in there!  :eek

Thanks for your replies guys, guess what l am doing this morning instead of riding?????????????

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Help please; you may need a crystal ball though.
« on: 23 January 2016, 04:52:10 pm »

Hi all, hope someone has some ideas for me.Went out last Saturday on my 2009 GEN2 faired FZ1, great ride & when l got home put bike back in garage as normal.
Got the bike out again yesterday and for the first time ever it was difficult to start. Anyway went about 5 miles to meet someone else for a ride but bike seemed to be running rough. When l stopped we both agreed it sounded like only running on 3 cylinders, felt the downpipes and sure enough 1 pipe was cold (compared to the other 3).
Had a ride of about 30 miles or so to see if it would clear itself but no luck so went home.
Today l have changed the plugs, thought it was a reasonable bet that would be the problem but no luck the same cylinder is still not having it.
Now can you all look in your crystal ball and suggest what may be the problem?
By the way bike is regularly serviced and used at least once a week all the year round, current mileage about 24k.
Would be really grateful for any suggestions.
Cheers
Harvey
