Just got my bike back from having the rear end rebuilt. I'm yet to paint it, will get that sorted this weekend.
Tempted to put some Continental TCK80's and go the scrambler look. Only pic I have at the moment, will take more hopefully tomorrow.

Currently looks like a cross-dressing Faze(r)... prior to going ALL OUT ! :lol
Chunky nobbly tyres would definitely complement the Scrambler look. The Continental TCK80's would be sweet.
What else do you have planned?
Nice work! Can picture a Bobber style bike here, if that seat was half the length (...giving me some "fresh" ideas). ;)

Next plans are to wrap the exhausts, cut down the front mud guard (or remove completely) and maybe change the tyres.
I was originally going to install a smaller seat however it's the only mode of transport for me and the missus so need enough room for her. The pillion pegs were actually cut and shifted for the build.
I also changed the speedo drive to mechanical and put a smaller speedo and tacho on. Can't get the tacho to work properly thou. It's not the fault codes, it just seems to have a mind of its own.

Welding for the seat looks really neat + great fit. Also relocation of the pillion pegs.
Where are you (roughly) in the UK - I might consider the welder for some work on mine.
Is that a rear light integrated INTO the tubing at the back? 8) SMART.
Your new 'bench seat' looks far more comfortable, plus practical for 2 also.
The "scrambler" styled tyres would work really well this time of year, once the wet weather rolls in, during the winter months.
The other Mods appear more cosmetic (removing front mudguard / exhaust wrap etc)?
I wont link to anything specific, however searching Google images, there's a handful of " Fazer Scramblers " that might offer some inspiration.

There is a brilliant guide to install the mechanical speedo. The Thundercat speedo drive is a direct fit.
I bought the Thundercat speedo drive for £5 and sold my original electric speedo drive for £40 on eBay.

Yes the taillight is built into the rear frame and it was a custom job, not bought pre-made on eBay.
The welder is based in West Drayton, near Heathrow. He is the best, he built the rear frame on my prior XJ600 which unfortionately was stolen.

The bike is finally finished (apart from needing one bar end and the rocker covers painted). I've changed the headlight and the handlebars since the last pics.

I like everything except the exhaust wrap.........."why" is something that I just don't understand (but maybe that's because I'm a boring old fart). On a scrambler, it would just hold water and muck.....sorry !

I don't get it myself.
If you alter the frame (Cutting and Shutting) from the original that must have gone through rigorous testing for strength and safety, would you have to have the thing checked out for those qualities before telling your insurance company about the mod, cos we are not talking stainless headers and a sports can here. this really is structural stuff.
Oh! By the way I think its looking good and am looking forward to seeing the finished project, Hopefully without the header wrap. :fish

Given that the cutting and welding is to the subframe and not the main structural elements of the frame itself (that bits keep the wheels in line and that the suspension bolts onto), then a MOT tester wouldn't pick this up as a failure element.
Personally, I've always told my insurer about any modifications (even when I basically built a frame from a headstock and top tube (keeping the frame number stamping and the manufacturer's plate) and they've all been OK with it - it was only the big frame mod that they wanted to inspect, and even then, it was the finished bike that inspected (back in the 80's), by a local engineering firm. No bike issues with substantial premium hikes either.
These days I think I might have more of an insurance problem from the mainstream insurers, but there are specialists about.

Insurance wasn't fussed. I've only third party and no theft cover so I think they only care about performance mods.
Mechanic didn't say anything at the MOT other than the seat suits it well.
I've changed my mind about the scrambler look. Will stick with road tires.
The exhaust wrap makes the bike look better (esp when the wrap was new) but it's not that functional. In the wet there's plenty of steam at the lights.
Plus when I changed oil filter I split a shitload of oil on the wraps. Smoked for around 2 weeks!
