Title: Strong gusts

High winds forecast for tonight, make sure your bike is secure if it's left outside, led to believe bikes with covers over them are more likely to be blown over.

Thanks for the heads up Mr Fish.  :lol

...did it turn out to be that bad? Didn't hear much last night. Actually seemed quite calm while I was 'sneaking out' to the garage, to give some affection to the Fazer.
There is Hurricane Ophelia doing the rounds (also bringing a little warm weather).

Face them into the wind and tie them down well. Wind really picking up in Cork now. Supposed to reach 110Kph (70 mph) around midday with much higher gusts. Foc hope my roof stays on  :rolleyes

Mr Fish here, just trying to confuse you in fact it is tonight the storm hits.
Good advice from Mr Unfazed.

Just took this picture of the sun over the trees in my garden, 12-40ish the picture does no favours to the colour of the sun (Samsung Galaxy phone cam) it reality it was much more red and brighter, camera somehow dulls it down, quite eerie in some ways, it seems very quiet and very warm as it did 30 years ago when the hurricane hit the UK.
Batten the hatches might be in for a rough night.
Collapse any garden furniture you might have out and take down the patio table brollies.

Sorry about the frame around the picture but found that this can be done in Paintshop Pro 9 by accident  :lol looks good

There is actually a Dust cloud spreading across the country which is what is making the Sun appear Red today.
(thanks also to Ophelia).

In various News outlets, the Red sun this morning was sparking fears of an imminent apocalypse.  :lol  :2guns

I too took an almost identical picture the red sun at mid day, very weird keep going outside to experience it like living on another planet with a red dwarf star. Or being on Mars. I am not usually on this planet anyway.
Cue washing red dust off the car later.

What is this "sun" you are talking of?

It's been as black as night all day here but not much sign of any wind so far

Strange light here all morning very, very still air and incredibly warm (19.5 Degs according to my car temp gauge)
The wind is picking up but in flurries, strong then goes still again, then comes back.

Stopped my camera lens down, made the picture darker so it looked more like real life, camera just lightens the picture and make it look dull, cameras generally don't capture what the human eye cans see.

in cumbria its the best day we have had in about a week bit of white cloud but sun peeking out
a gentle breeze running through the trees
-calm before the storm i think

Currently very warm and sunny with just a slight breeze here in Yorkshire but yup, calm before the storm I guess. Awkwardly I'm on a night shift tonight, fortunately I have the luxury of a locked garage there to store it in overnight.
I can testify from bitter experience what a sharp gust can do to a bike with a rain cover on. My almost brand new Hornet 600 (back in 2007) got blown over when the rain cover acted like a large sail. New tank, mirror, clutch lever, gear shift, bar end,  etc bloody etc. Can't remember the exact cost but I think it was about two weeks wages. Arse!

The northern regions will face the worst of the wind although it will be quite strong in the south too.
Best advice if you use a bike cover is to take it off during high winds.

This was the weird sepia effect in West London this afternoon... and so dark I had to hold the camera on a post to get a blur-free pic.
Still, it was nice and warm and the ride home was only slightly breezy. Some of the forecasts for next weekend look a bit more ominous (well, for the south-east anyway).

Whoever started this post should be ejected from the forum, has about as much insight a Michael the foccing Fish. Only wind I heard last night was not blowing from either West or East but something to do with Lamb Jalfrezi. :rolleyes :eek :evil

^  :lol  Tommy.  Sorry, laughing WITH Tommy, not AT Mr Fish...... DOH!

Fazerider - fantastic photo... You've captured that beautifully
I was trying to take photos of the "strange lighting", but my mobile just couldn't replicate that in the Pics (Samsung Galaxy S7).

Where was this photo taken?
Looks like the camera is aimed towards Harrow?

Thank you. :)
A lot of mobile phone cameras "auto white balance" which works well most of the time: photos taken indoors or outside look reasonably natural. But if the whole scene is one colour the result will come out white even if it should be blue or red or yellow.
If your phone has the option you could have set the white balance to "daylight" which would have shown the orange lighting rather than trying to make it look right.

It's looking south from White City towards Shepherds Bush. The ever-expanding Westfield to the left of pic, Television Centre (now a hotel and apartment block) is to the right.
