« on: 01 January 2022, 02:13:43 pm »
I got to say happy birthday to nakedadder, looking damn good for 160!
Looks like I'm not alone in using any random date of birth for websites.  :lol

General / Hand sanitiser - alcahol free
« on: 29 March 2020, 08:48:10 pm »
We got a load of hand sanitiser delivered at work the other day, it seems there's a lot about that is alcahol free using benzalkonium chloride as it's active ingredient.
As soon as I heard alcahol free alarm bells started ringing so I got round to looking the stuff up today, it seems that although it claims to kill coronavirus and cites european centre for disease prevention and control the only mention I can find is relating to canine coronavirus, a related but different strain that is of no threat to us whatsoever, the american centre for disease control states the active ingredient as unreliable for covid19.
If you are using this stuff check the ingredients and don't let it lull you into a false sense of security, it 'may' work on covid19 but there is no evidence that it will and washing your hands with soap will likely be far more effective, a little knowledge is indeed a dangerous thing!
I can see a lot of folk using this stuff in place of washing hands, DON'T!
And no your 80% proof vodka won't do it either as it's only 40% alcahol, you need at LEAST 60% to be effective.

General / Old dogs and dodgy tickers.....
« on: 08 July 2019, 05:32:30 pm »
An odd one but if anyone on here has an old dog with a heart problem and uses vetmedin 5mg send me a message, I may be able to save you a few quid as I have some left over and can't bear to see a vet send them for incineration when a dog could make use of them.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Air screws - in or out to lean
« on: 05 July 2019, 02:39:39 pm »
Can someone please remind me which way the air screws go on a though to lean off a touch, carbs are ivanised but after standing I've just blown the passages and jets through to cure a misfire but still got a tiny splutter just at pulling away speed, carbs are balanced and idles lovely I think it's just a touch rich.Currently 4 turns out but note ivanising instructions recommend 4.5-5 turns out, is that leaner or richer? Must find a small child to get their hands in to adjust and try.Otherwise runs superbly and pulls like a train all the way to "a tad over 70 officer".

For Sale & Wanted / SOLD - FZS1000 for sale - Cambs.
« on: 15 June 2019, 07:13:28 pm »
Half arsed ad coming up.....
2003 FZS1000 for sale, 22,532 miles on the clock, silver (yes I know it's not the most exciting colour).
Has R6 shock mod, ivanised carbs, multi-gauge fitted, 4 degree ignition advancer fitted (original included), SP end can fitted (good original end can included), AIS removed (included).
Has only done about 200 miles between mot's since I've had it, has all mot's since first one all dated the same as date of registration, have original yamaha owners pack with spare key in original plastic sleeve.
It's not the tidiest on the planet as it has a few scratches on the paintwork and the usual yamaha engine paint issues but is a good bike, chain and sprockets replaced about 600 miles ago.
£2300 will take it away, I can't be arsed with tyre kickers or haggling as I'm not even sure I want to sell it (don't get me wrong, I will) so if you think you are going to turn up and beat me down save your time and effort, I fancy a change and can't justify another bike in the garage doing very little.
Current mot runs till late october but I will put a fresh one on it for sale.
Reg is KY53 *** so if you have a fetish for ky jelly this is the bike for you, if you don't give it a go, you never know till you try it....... :lol

Update: Slight misfire sorted by a good clean and balance of carbs.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Front sprocket nut question
« on: 12 May 2015, 07:34:41 pm »
Did the FZS1000's ever suffer from front sprocket nut problems like the 600's did?
The reason I ask is due to a chain snappage I'm changing the full set and there doesn't seem to be that much thread in the nut (width wise) and it wasn't as tight as I was expecting, having a 600 before it made me question it.
Can anyone tell me what torque it should be done up to?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Tax disk
« on: 01 October 2014, 05:35:13 pm »
Foccing typical! first day of no tax disk being issued and my tax disk holder decides to bale out and disappear into the ether, I doubt the powers that be will be interested in issueing a replacement as it only has this month to run anyway.
I guess failiure to display is no longer an offence anyway...... :lol

For Sale & Wanted / 1998 FZS 600 gen 1 in black 19,800 miles
« on: 09 March 2014, 06:03:27 pm »
My 600 has finally made it's way through a minefield of laziness and apathy to the pages of gumtree here http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/yamaha-fzs600-fazer/1051828189 even washed the flies off it!
mot and tax till september 2014, runs and rides well, stainless downpipes with delkevic link pipe and can in stainless fitted (have original included), hugger and bellypan fitted, k&n air and oil filter, nearly new michelin pilots on both ends.
UK model code so no grey import insurance issues, datatagged, hpi clear, viewable in st.neots cambs.
Some minor scrapes to right hand side engine case from previous owner so I don't know the story of where they come from, headlight mod done so doesn't look squinty at night with one light out, usual amout of minor blemishes for it's age.
FZS 1000 forces sale as could do with the garage space.
Ride away fun!
Open to serious offers.
Despite rumours spread by other forum members black is definately a faster colour than blue, you poor deluded fools!  :)

For Sale & Wanted / Wanted XT600 rack
« on: 26 December 2013, 11:46:56 am »
Not fazer but worth a pop, does anyone have a rack for an XT600E kicking around in their shed that needs a new home? Doesn't need to be pretty or even that straight, but preferably cheap.
Just need something to adapt for carrying a small chainsaw for firewood hunting.

« on: 13 December 2013, 06:47:43 pm »

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Touch up paint for frame
« on: 24 October 2013, 07:35:24 pm »
Has anyone found a good touch up paint for the frame? I have a few rust spots that I'd like to tidy up but assume it's not as easy as bodywork touch up paint, don't want to do a full strip and re-coat.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Water pipe No1.
« on: 19 October 2013, 01:33:44 pm »
On a fzs1000 2003 whats it like to change water pipe No1. (the one at the front behind the down pipes)? It looks like it goes through the crankcase to the water pump, are there any o rings that fall out making it a nightmare to get back in?
Mines rotten and needs replacing but don't know if I can be arsed yet, if it's a simple pull it out and replace I'll go for it while I've got the rad off.
Anyone got a good one going cheap?

FZS600 Fazer / On the scrounge!
« on: 07 January 2012, 11:02:19 am »
Has anyone got a set of knackered clocks looking for a home? I'm after a set with the lcd clock built in(mk2?) to see if they can be easily pulled apart and the lcd hacked into, accident damaged is no problem as they won't be getting used other than experimental purposes.
I'm thinking along the lines of built in gear indicator and engine temp(maybe also oil temp) using a bit extra electronics but don't know how much room is inside the unit, don't want to destroy the good one I have just to try the theory, probably won't work so don't want to pay good money either hence the accident damaged approach.

General / Good music- soulweaver.
« on: 06 November 2011, 09:42:47 pm »
For some cracking new rock music check out www.soulweaverband.co.uk for their new album 'Liberty' They are an independant band with sod all money for publicity and absolutely foccing great, if you buy the tee shirt as well you'll be helping oldmotherfoccer's holiday fund as well.
You just have to love a pub band that does their own stuff and doesn't do mustang sally! (they don't do westlife either)
I've known them all for a long time now and they are lovely people well deserving of support, while you are at it look up the track remebrance day they did a few years ago for help the heroes and feel guilty enough to buy a poppy...
Come on you miserable foccers get yer money out!

FZS600 Fazer / Zorsts.
« on: 14 October 2011, 05:48:02 pm »
I've just been browsing ebay looking at stainless exhausts and come across motad and sandy bike spares downpipes, does anyone have experience as to which are better quality?
Also like the look of the delkevic 350mm stubby tailpipe, how well do they fit and what quality?
I don't suppose the chemical metal I've just blobbed in the collector will stay there long so I guess I will have to spend some cash, must admit I prefer the idea of it staying in the uk than going to china or similar.
All opinions/experience appreciated.
I was also after a gear position indicator but have had no response from ledgear, have they gone bust? I've since bought a second hand neutral switch and added extra contacts for the gears but still waiting on the display bit turning up to try it out.
