Filling the expansion space?
« on: 11 August 2014, 01:47:51 pm »
Anyone worked out an easy way to be able to fill the tank to the brim (gen ii) and get around the collar in the fuel tank.

I know it's there to allow expansion as the fuel heats from the engine, but if you're on a long tour it won't matter as you're instantly draining it again straight after filling.

I don't want to drill a 'breather' hole as swarf will get in the tank, but wondered if anyone had removed it or found a way to fill fully.

Must be a good few miles worth in that top bit and with a 140 mile range would be good to get a bit more out of it?

140 mile tank range! My last bar starts to flash at 110 miles and thats what I call my tank range, then I start desperately looking for a petrol station :\
But I also would be interested in removing the collar, if only to avoid the splashback when I don,t get the petrol nozzle in it correctly.

I used to put mine on the centre stand and fill it up slowly as it gets to the top, wait till the level falls and put another squirt in, repeat the last two steps until you get bored. Takes ages to do.

Still only got 115 miles to the blink! Got 150 out of it once on a motorway trip, but that was running on fumes!
Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!

I still had 3 bars on the gauge the other day and i had covered 115 miles of spirited riding,i know it was about to go to two bars and the last bar would start flashing at about 130 to 135.
i have apower commander and a "smooth" map on it, so i suggest something else could be done to get more miles per tank, i  rekon on getting 145 to 155 to the tank

I have a juicebox pro fitted and it will accept power commander maps, could you send me a link to where you got the smooth map from or email me a copy?

Yeah that's pretty much what I do now, but lose the will waiting for it.

I guess it would probably only save about 5 miles or so, maybe not worth the agro messing about.

Cool, it's probably the best map for our mods, and I tested quite a few!
