General / Re: Worst bike you have ever riden?
« on: 01 September 2013, 07:15:33 am »
Hired a 7 year old Hardly Dangerous for a 7 week Great Pacific Highway & Bush ride out in Australia .. Engine was so bad (until I paid to get it rebuilt in week 2) that the crankshaft was in two halves  :eek   when the guy opened it up!

If it had 'let go' on the move it could have killed us both.  Took us 5 weeks to do the 2.500 miles half of it on rainforest dirt tracks or sand and rock desert .. totally crazy .. but quite an adventure.

The brand new UK based Pan European was not much better .. over 12 STONE heavier than a Gen 1 .. yes really !

Stay Safe .. stick with the Den 1 .. best all rounder ever!

:eek    Bear in mind that polystyrene gives off toxic (Killer) fumes when burning .. never a good idea inside 'any' building .. in my opinion.   Might even be illegal?  Stop and talk to the Firemen first.

:)    Same old question .. same old answer :

Fit a Scottoiler and be sure it's working correctly!  Job Done.  :D

I have been a Scottoiler fan since the guy opened the shop door on day one .. must be about 14 years I guess.

Can't recall ever needing to adjust or clean a rear chain .. current one is on my Honda CB1300S with 25.000 miles on the clock and looking good.

That's pulling all the extra weight of a sports sidecar around some of the best roads in Europe .. maybe not quite so fast as a Gen 1 but for sure a whole lot of extra work.

« on: 01 May 2013, 01:34:45 am »
 :b   Hi Guys,
Just checking out the Line Dancing at the Brum Bike Shed .. there is an 'All White' Gen1 in the photo shoot .. looks like it might have a truck load of Yellow Soft Bags Kit and a caravan selection of screen stickers?

I also had an All Ice White Gen 1 job for a few years  2003 to 2005 ..  I had a full second set of of bodywork plastics painted up for me by Top Gun .. a very recently returned to biking member  :eek

Can someone please identify the current Owner for me please  8)  I need to contact him / her.

All info and any help will be very welcome.   Stay Safe Y'all  ;)     Trev

« on: 29 April 2013, 04:34:46 am »
:thumbup    A big 9/10 and a Full Monty Well Done All from me guys .. looks like you made it another meet to remember.
It has to be worth getting out of bed and going for .. the first event of the Fazer year .. I guess there will always be a few who miss out on this one .. but it always has to be 'each to their own'.

Looks like the Weather Girl was in a nice mood for the day and by all accounts Ad The Bad (Kosmic) did a really good day's work .. both leading on the road and then setting up the Line Dancing and taking some nice snaps (I know they are works of art really Ad  8) )

I propose that we make Ad the official:   'King of the Kurves' ... nice job there mate

I was thinking of you all .. as I lay on the bottom bunk in my Hospital room and again after I came home .. I've picked up another very nice long 'curved line' myself .. soon have enough for an A to Z  :eek

So .. Again my congratulations to you all Lads .. couple of snaps to follow.   Stay Safe  ;)   Trev

« on: 27 April 2013, 09:44:56 pm »
:)    Have a Good Day at the Brum Bike Shed Tomorrow Guys.

When I set up the very first meet (in 2001) we had 11 Gen 1s on the line :o)
I gave out Mars Bar awards to various people ... Longest Ride to get there  scared .  All Police Officers flirt.   Anyone with a Female Pillion Passenger wing and so on .. just a bit of fun that we kept going for quite a few years.  I think it ended when the financial climate changed confused    Most bikes on the line was 45 I think .. maybe 2004?

I have just been let out from the Denia Hospital today (Had another big bone joint job done) Port Side Hip this time .. so I awarded myself a Mars Bar for the most genuine reason for not doing the longest ride.

Be sure to ger all those front tyres on the line .. I'll be thinking of you.

+1 Here for keeping all the standard kit.

A standard Bike is worth what it's worth .. no matter who the buyer is.

A bike with £1000 of extras is worth no more to a dealer .. they would much rather have a standard bike.

A bike with lots of extras needs to be 'overpriced' in a private sale if you want to try to recover some of the 'Bling' money  :\ .      You would probably do better selling the extras as 'parts' direct in here or on eBay.

:eek    Wow .. yes indeed Locksmith .. this might be a first!

Mike will be along in due course .. and he will almost certainly have a few questions .. before offering any answers .

For starters:

Who is the guy with the duff Gen 1 ?
Who Ivanised the Bike ?  (it may not be one of Mike's!)
When was the job done .. mileage not months ?
Was the Invanising job done before he got it .. or was it his idea ?
Where did he get the bike .. Private or Stealer ?
What's the mileage reading now ?
Who Services the Bike?
When was the last Service done ?

And so on ..... The more answers and info you can provide now the better chance Mike will have of helping you.  8)

Sorry to stick my size ten paddle in here Mike .. I just couldn't resist it  :\

Safe Y'all  ;)    Trev

General / Re: Ideas for a biking holiday. UK only please
« on: 16 April 2013, 11:15:57 am »
:)    One more here for going North .. the Yorkshire Moors, cross over to the Lakes and home .. easy.

All kinds of everything as far as roads go .. in fact it's all kinds of everything as far as a four day trip will give you.

Use a good map and read it .. avoiding the Motorway bits you can build a really good 'loop'

Don't book anything except maybe your first night out .. then you can scrub anything out and move the goal posts if the weather (or whatever) changes .. be free to ride free  8)

Good Luck .... Stay Safe  ;)    Trev

Introduction / Re: New Guy from Brum
« on: 11 April 2013, 06:41:17 am »
:\   Seems I need to clarify a couple of things here ..

I'm not the new guy from Brum .. far from it in fact!  :\

Top Gun (Ade) is the new member .. he is my long term number one good buddy in the UK .. former Diver, etc, etc.  He and his lovely wife are on holiday down here in Spain at the moment .. they have a holiday place about 500 yards up the street from our Mike (Falcon 269)

They drove up (about 135 miles) to visit us yesterday .. so .. I took the chance to pull him into the Dark Area.   He has been 'hovering' over in the pit lane for too many months .. and of course we used my computer .. hence the wee cock-up with my address and logo.

Ade already has a very nice tricked up (Full Monty, etc) 2004 Gen 1 .. he was lucky enough to get his paws on Septicangels bike .. a few months back when it came up for grabs .. it's a faster Blue type  8) .  We will post a photo in due course.

Various things considered .. Top Gun hopes to be at the Brum Bike Shed meet on April 28th .. he lives about two gear changes up the road in Hollywood (that's over on the much more up-market side from Sutton Coldfield Baggy .. but he's not too fussy who he talks to  :) ).

No doubt Top Gun and our Mr Admin Man will have a chat and correct the email address for us in due course .. but probably not until they return to the UK in a week or ten days time.

Hope that sorts out a few things and corrects a few points .. more as we get there  :rolleyes

Stay Safe People  ;)    Trev & Top Gun.

:lol    Good One Rev ... no 'picking up' from me this time Buddy  :lol .

I generally tend to put all Religions, Politics, Animal Hunters and that Rooney the Runt in the same bin .. total waste of time and space .. and that Rooney thing is breathing our blinking air too!

Now .. we can both wait for the flack to start .. never a good idea to mention any of those topics either  :rolleyes

 8)    OK Guys .. so you did not know any better .. and now you do.  Nice that you have apologised  :) .

Just for info .. this is a large international group .. there are members all over the world.

I'm in southern Spain .. bloody big mountain just up the road .. blocking a TV signal .. so I don't get any live UK TV.
I used to have to watch all the Bike Races in German Eurosport .. without sound  :'(  but can now use a system that gives mt the pit lane patter and race commentary stuff in English .. but I (we) have to wait for people to send it down the pipe.

'The Spoiler Code' is not written on a big flat stone anywhere .. that I know of .. it is a generally accepted rule on most bike group sites .. I'm on five myself.

I note these posts have been moved overnight into this Lawnmower shed .. probably 'our admin' looking after things for us  :)  thank you Sir.

WSB up next .. nod   ;)  say no more.

:\    Guys .. do we not have a code of conduct in here ?   I thought we did?

Most bike group forums keep very quiet about all the Bike Race results .. for a good week or more .. at least.

If you do need to talk about the Racing .. please do it over in the Diesels and Lawnmowers section .. we can keep out of there , or not, as required  8)

Some of us can't get the live TV coverage and have to reply on various 'Systems'  :rolleyes  to watch the races on the computer .. often maybe days after the event.

Please remember to consider your actions when celebrating and posting after a good week-end   :)   Cheers !!

Lets hope all the Moto GP, WSB & BSB, lads go forward into a brilliant season .. it's the only sport I follow .. well .. other than a bit of female bodybuilding like  :b

:\   I'd go very easy at Specsavers guys ... as always there are the bad experience story sides to these 'wonderful service' people .. and I have mine !!

Long term customer .. booked in .. had eye test .. told I needed a 'considerable update' on my prescription (only two years since last test) because I am 'Getting on a bit in years'' now .. Sat with the bird to decide Frames .. so far OK.

Then she shifts into 'Time Share Selling' mode .. top button open and lean forward .. repeated chat starting with ''What I can do for you, Trev''  First quote for a pair of new gasses and a 'free' pair ...  £750 !! Yes that's £750.00.

As I got up to walk out and she started all over again .. take note how they sit close up and side on to you and use a pen and paper (not the computer)  This is so you can see how they look around to check no-one is watching  :rolleyes  and gradually cross things out off the spec list .. to bring the final price down!  :rolleyes

We go down through .. £475 .. £350 .. £250 .. but by then it's .. ''Sorry but no 'free' pair at this level Trev''.  Total rip- off tactics .. just taking the p*** .   Then eventually we got into the.. ''Ok Trev, I can do you a Special Deal for OAPs'' bollox .. bit bloody late for that line now girl!

At the final answer curtain .. she wrote '''Cheeky Chappy'' across my paperwork in Big Red Letters (maybe so I could read it) and threw the pen at the PC!  :'(    A clear indication (as far as I could see anyway  :\ ) that she was getting well beyond p***** off about Not getting her commission!  :(

I then had their prescription checked by a different optician .. new eye test came up with nothing like what they had said I needed and .. over three years on .. my ''poor old eyes'' are still not as bad as they said!  Avoid is the word as far as I'm concerned.

I got another new test and prescription pair of Varifocals on-line this year .. modern frames and delivered all in for £90  :)  with an option of a second pair at reduced cost (but only if I wanted them).   I wear them 24/7 (when I'm not asleep like) no problems at all.

Proceed with utmost caution guys .. shop around like you were buying Insurance  8)   £$€
