Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / clocks gone bad
« on: 25 June 2019, 06:29:37 pm »
Greetings everyone in Fazerland, its been a number of years since the last time I was on here, life in general taking over etc! So to my problem, recently got the old girl out of mothballs, having not ridden her for over a year :eek , gave her a wash and took for an MoT, when i got to the testing station i discovered my clocks had stopped working! The rev counter isn't working at all, the speedo didn't work when riding it, the clock and odometer aren't working either. In fact, the only thing working on there is the fuel gauge! So, my question is, anyone any ideas as to what could be the problem?
As a matter of interest, I have had the clocks apart and there are no corroded or burnt connections on the PCB, the plug into the back is clean and there does seem to be power going to the clocks, so I'm a little stumped, supposed to be going up to the Lakes this weekend coming and don't fancy guessing my speed!  :lol  Thanks in advance :)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Rear sets on a gen 1
« on: 03 August 2013, 09:57:08 pm »
How do chaps, in the near future, I'm hoping to buy some rearsets to fit on the bike, as I find the standard peg position is uncomfortable and I'm wanting something with a more sporty stance that suits my riding style.
Any one fitted them? What was the difference in riding position? Any recommendations?
Cheers :)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Oil level warning light
« on: 13 May 2013, 11:14:35 pm »
Ok I know its been discussed before, but at the time wasn't worried about it. Now however, my warning light is coming on all the time, which is really annoying! Oil level is ok by the way, but I need to know what to do to sort it now. Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions?
Cheers  :D

Events, Meets, Ride outs etc / Squires easter egg run 24th march 2013
« on: 22 January 2013, 10:48:42 pm »
Squires are running their annual Easter Egg run on the 24th March this year, running on a different route this time from Squires Cafe, nr Sherburn in Elmet and ending up at Leeds Rhinos/ Yorkshire CC grounds. To join the event just turn up with an Easter Egg or two or a cash donation.
More details can be found here:   http://www.facebook.com/events/195925917220831/
Once again, would be good to see some Fazers turning up on the day.

Just thought I'd mention this as I know all you Fazer riders are a hardy bunch, Squires are running a toy run on the 18th of November.
It starts at Squires Cafe Bar near Sherburn in Elmet at 9:15am and travels to The Sun inn, landing there at around 11:00am and then moving on to Ripon, landing there at around 12;30. The route is 125 and learner friendly so newbies can join in.
All you need to join in the run is either a small donation or bring a toy.
Its all in a good cause, helping under privileged children, hopefully enjoy xmas a bit more than they might.
I did this run earlier this year, when it was an Easter egg run and had a cracking day out.
Would be good to see some more Fazers out on this run :)
Check out http://www.squires-cafe.co.uk/whats_on_at_squires/event_five.asp
Cheers guys

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Ignition barrel
« on: 30 September 2012, 06:09:35 pm »
Just a quicky folks, my mates got a fazer 600 on an '03(I think ) plate, his ignition barrel has gone fubar, anyone know what barrels will fit?  Fazer 1000? Tdm? I had assumed it would be a standard issue multi use barrel that fits loads

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Gen 1 running really lean
« on: 06 September 2012, 04:07:28 pm »
More problems with the old girl, after getting the new gearbox fitted and then re-fitting the engine and then getting the exup valve to work and then setting the exup valve correctly, I thought, yeah, it should be lovely now....but no! The bike is now running incredibly lean, to the point of it "pinking" when under load, plus it doesn't seem to have much grunt low down either!
Is there anything I should be looking for? Is it worth checking on the TPS setting? ANy other suggestions?
The carbs haven't been touched during the strip down and rebuild, but could do with balancing. There is no Ivans fitted, which would probably cure a lot of issues, but I can't afford that just now!
Help!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / More possible Exup woes
« on: 13 August 2012, 03:07:59 pm »
Just a quickie, this subject has probably been done plenty of times before but, after fixing the gearbox and putting the engine back in my gen1, every thing seems ok apart from the fact that it won't rev above 8000 rpm!, any suggestions would be greatly apreciated

Been out for a ride today and on the way back I went to over take a van that was travelling really slow, 2nd gear, gave it some throttle and was passing said van when I hit a bump in the road and the front end came up, went to change in to third to bring it down and as I did it hit a false neutral, pulled the clutch in, clicked it up and it wouldn't engage properly! I managed somehow, to get passed the van and also manged to get a gear, but with a very nasty clattering/metallic noise coming from the 'box! As soon as I could, I pulled over. Now when its in neutral its clattering and when I pull the clutch in, the noise goes away. I can still get gears and drive to the rear wheel, but not with out nasty sounds coming from the box. Got a very nice man to ferry the bike home and will be taking it to the garage tomorrow.
The bikes done 32000 miles, its a gen 1 and it had plenty of oil in there.
Anyone got any clues?  Am I looking at serious expense, which will probably mean the end of my summers biking or could it be something less scary? I'll be doing the work myself, so any help/advice will be helpful.
Help! :'(

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Gen 1 grab rail
« on: 03 May 2012, 09:55:07 pm »
Not sure if this has come up before, but, I recently took a lady friend pillion on a run. She had not been out on a bike for a long time but thoroughly enjoyed the ride out. Her only complaint was the horrible side grab rails on the 1000, I too found it difficult and uncomfortable as she tended to allow too much weight on me when braking.  Does anyone know of an alternative grabrail, one that loops over the back, to the crappy original ones. I don't really want to spend the vast fortune that Rentec are asking for their grabrails/sports racks!  Any ideas?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Gen 1 radiator
« on: 12 April 2012, 10:56:41 pm »
Anyone know where i can get a radiator for my gen 1? I've looked on fleabay and the only one I saw was broken! Seem to have sprung a leak, slap bang in the middle where the rubber grommet sits, might try radweld as if it is leaking, its only a small one!

All you folks out who are familiar with Squires cafe at Sherburn, nr Leeds, apparently there is to be an easter egg run starting from there. Everyone is meeting at Squires for 10:00 and then they will be riding out to the Sun Inn and then on to a destination in Ripon (not sure where exactly), all you need to do the ride is an easter egg or two. This all third hand info, but you can find out more here: Squires easter egg run 2012 ( I hope that link works!) or here:
www.yorkshirebikeforum.com (I hope that one works as well!)  or just Google it!
Would be good to see a good sprinkling of Fazers out there :)
Sorry its short notice, but I just found out about it myself and thought I'd mention it on here.

Your Suggestions and How you can help / Stickers
« on: 20 March 2012, 08:28:11 pm »
This may have been mentioned before, but what are the chances doing some stickers of some sort? I was out on Sunday and saw several Fazers about, would be good if we had an identifying sticker so we know when some one else is in the club. Any thoughts on this subject or has it been discussed before?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Thieving little toe rags!
« on: 17 March 2012, 09:46:43 pm »
Been out for a ride and meet  today, overall a nice pleasant day out on my pride and joy, stopped at my brothers house on the way home for some tea, the bike parked on the street, right outside his gate. Just sat watching some telly and suddenly my alarm on the bike starts bleeping and goes off. I rushed outside to find the bike laid on its side in the middle of the road and some little scroats high tailing it away from the scene! Didnt bother chasing them (I'm not as fit as I used to be!), so checked out the bike. Apart from a bent clutch lever and some scratches to the belly pan and generator casing all seemed well. When I got home, all of two miles away, I noticed my cooling fan was on! This is a rare happening, especially as its a cool night. Has anyone dropped their bike and discovered any coolant leaking out?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Just do it
« on: 16 March 2012, 10:42:46 pm »
So finally got my bike back together, with new R6 shock (courtesy of Devilsyam) and chain and sprockets. Gotta say, though I've only ridden it in traffic around town, the improvement in handling is immediately obvious. The ride feels firmer without being harsh and choppy, it turns in easier and, for me, gives it a better, more front biased riding position. So good news so far, I'm planning on getting out in the countryside this weekend so it should give me a better idea of how much of an improvement the shock gives. If anyones thinking about upgrading the rear suspension on their bike, give Devilsyam a shout on here, before looking at other more expensive upgrades. The shock kit comes ready to fit, its a straight swap and the finish, very professional.  Even if you do get called muppet!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / New shock shows up other issues!
« on: 15 March 2012, 08:24:04 pm »
Well I received my new R6 shock today (thanks Luke) and after stripping the bike down (replacing chain and sprockets as well, so wheel out job), I thought I'd check all the suspension bearings. The linkage bearings were ok but the swingarm bearings were knackered! The swingarm was wobbly! Thankfully managed to get some replacement bearings (for free!) and fitted them. Unfrotunately ran out of time tonight (doing the work at a mates garage), but I'm pleased I decided to change the shock as I wouldn't of known about the bearings and I'm just thinking of the speeds I was doing last Monday ! Gulp!!! Hopefully get it all together tomorrow and it should be like a new bike :) . Will report on how things are with all the new bits fitted soon. Recomendation of the day.....check your swingarm bearings asap!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Not the usual tyre related question
« on: 11 March 2012, 11:54:01 pm »
I have noticed when I've been out on the bike for a blast and I check the wear  on the edge of the tyres, to see how heroic I've been, the rear tyre always gets close to the edge of the tread and the front still has a good inch to go. Is this because the bike is currently biased to the rear on the suspension (or seems to be) or is it down to my riding style on the Fazer?  My CBR6 used to scrub the tyres fairly equally with a slight bias towards the front. I have found myself using the power of the bike to punch out of the corners, whereas on the CBR I was carrying more corner speed. Any thoughts?  Anyone else found this issue on their bikes? Any suggestions on rectifying this minor but strange issue?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Leaking fuel
« on: 11 March 2012, 11:07:10 pm »
My bike is parked outside all the time, not always covered, its parked near my door so I regularly walk past it. I've noticed just recently a strong smell of petrol when passing the bike and then this morning I noticed a small damp patch under the bike. When I smelt it it was definately petrol. Its dripping very slightly from, I presume, the carb drain pipes. Any ideas on whats causing this and is it possible to turn the petrol off, as I've never seen the fuel tap, I know it has one somewhere! Any clues please

Your Suggestions and How you can help / Hometowns
« on: 08 March 2012, 09:44:06 pm »
Just a suggestion, but would it be possible to put what city/town/area members live, on the section where their names are? Just would be good to see where ppl live and in doing so find out if there are other members in your own area. I've just discovered that there are several live near me and we have arranged a meet up. Or is this already accesible and I'm just being thick?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / New bits
« on: 08 March 2012, 08:29:43 pm »
New chain and sprockets arrived today, including a 47 tooth rear, just waiting for my shock to arrive and then bang it all on and hey presto! Instant new bike (sort of), just in time for the silly season :) .  On another point, a few people have mentioned that, after fitting Devilsyam's R6 shock kit, they noticed their bikes have more of a tendancy to wheelie, is this correct?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Horny devil!!
« on: 05 March 2012, 10:53:00 pm »
Sick of the pathetic, weedy standard horn on my gen 1, any suggestions/recomendations for replacement? Must be suitable for making dumbass Range Rover drivers aware I'm there when they are reversing straight out onto the road in front of me!!!!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Happy man
« on: 04 March 2012, 01:12:42 am »
Just had my bike dyno-ed today at Jordans Bikes in Leeds and what a happy man its made me. 130 bhp at the back wheel! With a nice smooth power curve all the way to the limiter, not bad for a fairly unmolested 30,000 miler, thats in desparate need of a service! Chuffed to bits I am, so much so that I thought I'd share this little bit of happiness with you all :D

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Slipper clutches
« on: 27 February 2012, 10:15:54 pm »
Anyone any thoughts on these? I'm gonna presume an early R1 slipper clutch would fit the gen 1 motor, any one fitted one already? Any point?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Sprockets and stuff
« on: 02 December 2011, 01:29:02 pm »
Can anyone tell me the standard sizes are for the front and rear sprockets on a 5lv and also if its best to change the front or the rear? I think some one mentioned having to fit a speedo corrector thingy when you put different sized sprockets on, is this correct?
