General / Time to upgrade... 07 or 09
« on: 27 March 2016, 03:34:50 pm »
Afternoon all.
I sold my fazer last year (foxeye 600).

I'm in the process of changing jobs which means I'll no longer require a car, as I'll be allowed to use the van for private mileage.

So I'm looking at another bike, not set in concrete but possibly brand new.

What I'm trying to do is figure out which...

Obviously I'm going to test ride both, and have read mixed reviews on the 09 in particular.

I'm looking at the MT-07 and MT-09 of course.

Main reasons for the 09 over the 07 are the Free exhaust system with the 09 and the power ratings.

Obviously the fazer was up there with the power in the 90bhp ballpark... The MT-07 seems to be a power drop where the 09 is more powerful.

I'm not a heavy rider but do plan on keeping the bike long term, it'll be a hobby not a commuter, and will have a pillion on occasion.

Anyone got any input forms to assist my decision making?

To add, I'm only around 5'9" and 58-60kgs and so adjustable suspension of one may benefit me, but may be a waste of time and £2k on the price increase.

Thanks in advance!

FZS600 Fazer / Crank cases
« on: 13 July 2015, 05:50:39 pm »
Hi all
Just been looking for a set of crank cases just on the off chance.

Found some old stock ones for a 2000 model but mine is the 2003.

There seems to be variants with part number -00, -01, -02 all which are replaced with the -02 version.

The version I've seen is the earlier one.
I can clearly see that they're backward compatible but are there differences that will effect me having my 03 engine rebuilt onto some 99 model crank cases?

Hopefully this makes sense.

Thanks

General / Crank case welding.
« on: 04 May 2015, 06:09:22 pm »
As above.
I've had some bad news and found my nasty tapping noise.

Basically there's a crack in the crank case on the circular hole that houses the water pump.

It's at around the 7-8 o'clock position but seems to be allowing the water pump enough movement to make a nasty tapping noise.

If I loosen the bolts and push the pump over a touch the noise stops.

The engine has recently had the cam chain and alsorts done so don't really want to be changing it.

Looking for anyone who has had this or similar, or somewhere that can repair or find a solution etc?

I'm in the Wiltshire area and can travel within reason.

Thanks in advance

FZS600 Fazer / Downpipe and exhaust gaskets
« on: 31 March 2015, 09:38:39 pm »
As above really.
I can't find anything definitive, I'm looking at replacing the gaskets throughout but don't know what I should have or need.

Assuming there's 4 at the front, are there any further back?
I've an aftermarket link pipe and what I believe to be a delkovic can too, but that all blows so I wanna do it all really.

Amyone got any links?
Not fussed if it's ebay or elsewhere :)

Thanks chaps

FZS600 Fazer / Had my cam chain done but...
« on: 17 March 2015, 01:33:50 pm »
Update today: clutch issues? More videos

http://youtu.be/x418HWd-PPY

Had my cam chain done due a rattle.
Seemed obvious as the tensioner was almost near the end.
Had a service at the same time all done by a specialist local to me.
The bike still taps, I've been told it definitely isn't the chain, it's a more frontal noise low down.

Hot or cold makes no odds.
It's not that bad on idle, anything more and you can hear it, hopefully it can be heard In the video link.
Anyone had anything similar at all?

Thanks

**excuse the original thread being on an attached picture. This stupid ipad wouldn't submit it and I kept re typing and it wouldn't work so I've posted that, and edited this post to say almost the same thing now. I love technology.

General / Intercoms and the like
« on: 13 March 2015, 08:09:51 pm »
Hello all.
Long time no speak on here, but I've finally had my cam chain done, and a service, and tax and test so I'm back on the road after a small fortune.

As the summer is nearing, and my partner and I now live together, we're looking at spending some time out on the bike.

I've already ordered a set of love handles, hopefully to make both our lives a touch easier.

Next up, I was hoping for some kind of intercom setup.
Something 2 way, basically so we can generally just communicate, which with the other half, anything longer than 5 minutes ride time is necessary lol.

Are there any relatively basic setups that will allow this?
I can't seem to find anything obvious online and I'm pretty new to this, didn't think I'd ever have the need but it seems it'll be beneficial for years to come.

Any advice of course is greatly appreciated.
Thanks all

FZS600 Fazer / fzs600 block hairline crack? 2003
« on: 05 January 2015, 07:14:13 pm »
As above.

Got a small hairline crack just where the water pump sits in.

What is the crank case made from so I can look into welding work?

Thanks

FZS600 Fazer / Anyone want to do a cam chain?
« on: 01 December 2014, 08:18:52 am »
I do apologise if this is in the wrong place.

I bought all the stuff to do my cam chain and have decided I don't really fancy the job.

I'm in the Wiltshire Somerset area and don't mind dropping you the bike within reasonable distances.

Anyone fancy it?
Split link chain so no engine out or engine split business.

Cheers guys

General / Coolant hoses between carbs
« on: 25 July 2014, 06:59:01 pm »
As above, is there a proper name for these?

Punctured to of them while removing my carbs earlier on the fzs600.

Alternatively anyone know the internal diameter for them so I can get some silicone pipe or something?

Bad day with the bike :(

Cheers

FZS600 Fazer / Cam chain noise.. again?
« on: 25 July 2014, 03:02:21 pm »
Hi all.
Been trying to research this all week to no avail.

I have a noise that seems to have suddenly appeared.

I thought it sounded cam chainy, but I've recorded it now as best I could.

I've just stripped it down and removed the tensioner, checked it all out, put it back then wound the centre bolt in last thing and it adjusted.

the noise is no worse, but no better and I'm not sure where to go next.
I'm not sure how many clicks were left on it because I was a fool and didn't take the centre bolt and spring out first LOL.

Either way, don't want to spend over £100 on something it doesn't need.

The noise isn't mega, but does go with the engine revs and is annoying, and makes me conscious that it'll break.
I've tried the spirited ride trick and its still there, again no worse.
Its present from Cold and when Hot also.

Any advice?
Don't know where to go now :(

Its a 2003 Foxeye with circa 28k on the clock.
I changed the oil around 1500 miles ago.

Thanks

General / place online to buy service parts.
« on: 23 July 2014, 07:49:56 pm »
Hi all.

Couldn't find much on here but I'm looking to do a service while checking my cam chain tensioner due to a lot of noise
It's done 28k (fzs600) so I'm looking to do a lot.

Oil and filter
Plugs
Fuel filter
Air filter (probably k&n)

And anything else you all recommend?

Looking for somewhere online to supply bits and what parts are recommended.

Don't mind genuine parts but I'm not looking to spend top dollar this time around due to potential  cam chain or cam chain tensioner issues.

All advice appreciated
Thanks

General / Anyone in the Wiltshire area?
« on: 18 July 2014, 07:00:23 pm »
Hi all.

Got what I think is the dreaded cam chain tensioner rattle.

Also the bike seems a touch vibratey at times, perhaps a carb balancing issue?

Is there anyone on here or anyone recommended / competitively priced who can do this work for me?

Any help would be great. Last thing I need is a chain snap or something!

Thanks

FZS600 Fazer / Idiots guide to setting my suspension
« on: 09 July 2014, 01:09:13 pm »
Hi all.
Done a look around and can't find anything to suit me exactly...

I'm a bit of no n00b with all the bike stuff, but I'm looking to set my suspension up to settings better suited to myself..

I'm around 5'9 and very light at around 8 and a half stone, 55-60kg

Where's the best place to start with settings?

At the moment the preload on the forks looks to be set quite far up, ie there's a lot of the adjuster sticking out the top of the fork if that makes sense, perhaps the pic will help lol...

Thanks

FZS600 Fazer / Fitted my bars but...
« on: 06 July 2014, 01:03:06 pm »
Hi all,

Finally got round to fitting my Renthal 755s today.

Relatively straight forward, just gotta adjust the switch gear when I ride and get it all nice and tight, get the tape on and whatnot.

My only query, is the front brake lines.

I've had to leave the lever further over to the left so it reaches  as it's so tight, even after re routing.

I was tempted to change the lines for braided, the time seems appropriate as this is too short anyway.

My friend has some lying around that may be long enough, BUT, they're 2 lines from the lever to the calipers, rather than one to a splitter then off to each caliper.

Will this do the job and be okay, or is the original setup the best to use etc?

Any advice or best places to buy? And also any advice on bleeding afterwards?

Thanks

For Sale & Wanted / WANTED: FZS600 bits: Can and undertray
« on: 20 April 2014, 08:52:21 pm »
As above.

Looking for a decent end can with link pipe preferred.
Something to make it sound a little less wimpy but not stupidly loud please.

Also a standard under tray as mine has a hole in it.

I'd also like some ideas for indicators, something a little less sticky outy than standard but still nice and bright.

All to fit a 2003 fox eye.

Based in Wiltshire, willing to travel or pay postage also.

Thanks :)

FZS600 Fazer / Clutch noise
« on: 02 April 2014, 07:13:43 pm »
Hi all.

Finally got the fazer back on the road, And extremely chuffed after my local main dealer MOT'd it, passing first time without a single advisory, and they forgot to even charge me for the test!

Anyway, it's an 03 fzs600 and since repairing several bits after a chain snap, I've noticed a tapping noise on idle, which goes when I pull the clutch in.

It had a new front sprocket cover and clutch rod, just a couple of the new bits that id have thought would effect the clutch.

I'm assuming I'll need some kind of a adjustment as the cover was from another used bike.

How can I do this? Is there a particular method as such?

Thanks

FZS600 Fazer / Rear hugger...
« on: 19 March 2014, 06:31:43 pm »
As above..

Bought one for my 03 Foxeye, the seller informed me it was on an 03 Foxeye originally also.

Its arrived, and i've fitted it, however on the right hand side there was no mounting holes for it - I've actually had to use cable ties for the time being...

This can't be right surely, do the boxeyes have a slightly different fitting?

Thanks

FZS600 Fazer / Setting up suspension and tyre pressures.
« on: 01 March 2014, 07:16:32 pm »
Hi all.

Been out fixing the bike finally today, and after realising I also have a hole in the water pump and a part id ordered was wrong, I'm working on the bike next week again also once these are ordered / replaced.

While i'm out there, before I go for an MOT and get into Spring / Summer weather, I'd like to adjust everything up to suit.

Its a 2003 Foxeye FZS600.
I'm about 5' 10" and very light, at around 8 to 8 and a half stone.

Basically, I'm looking for an idiots guide on where to set my rear shock and the front preload - Or a guide or something?

I've ran a search but can't find much specific to my size.

I was also contemplating a jack up, i've read this'll also help with handling, as as the dog bones are around £20 for a 25mm jack up, it could be worth it.

Any advice?
Thanks
David

FZS600 Fazer / Chain snap :(
« on: 18 November 2013, 05:23:22 pm »
Hi all.
Some advice really...

I've had my chain snap last weekend.
I've sulked all week and decided that given its winter, there's no urgency, so as you'd imagine, I've ordered a new sprocket cover already.

My main concern in honesty is that where the clutch rod snapped, its left some inside - This doesn't look all that bad and will probably come out... BUT...

The hole has gone oblong..
Everything else looks relatively in order, except for the chain guard which is basically gone.

I've read online vaguely about bushing this or something similar, but couldn't find all that much info.

I'm assuming this is bad news?
Its a 2003 FZS600

Cheers

« on: 27 October 2013, 04:01:59 pm »
Hi all.
Just posted up in the introduction section, and am new here.

Just bought myself an 03 FZS600.

Basically, I'm just looking at some small changes for the time being, small, cheap and cheerful mods - Something to start making it my own, once i've paid the parents back a little more, i'll start looking at the slightly costlier stuff..

Any advice welcome
Cheers
