Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Starting & Cutting Out Gremlin!
« on: 21 October 2014, 04:57:38 pm »
For almost 12 months now I've had an issue with my gen1 starting and engine cutting out under heavy load / speed.
I had my alarm removed a few months back as I concluded after addressing every other option recommended by you guys that this must be the culprit!  :rolleyes

Recently however, guess what...? My gremlin is back!  :wall

BUT; when I was out on the Hoggin the Bridge event on Sunday I managed to identify the intermittent fault...
As I was riding home my key ring was flapping in the wind and when I went to move it, the engine temporarily stalled! I did a few times to confirm and low and behold I was able to replicate the fault!!!  :think

Has anyone else experienced this with theirs?

I'm going to strip down the ignition barrel one evening this week and hopefully fix it. If not replace it...  :smash

Hoggin the Bridge Club invites you to join them for Hoggin the Bridge 2014.

This year the ride will take place on Sunday 19th October and will start in the Brightside Group PLC car park at 11.00 a.m. behind Severn View Services, Aust, Junction 1 M48, near Bristol.  The parade ride will begin by Hoggin the Severn Bridge then follow the usual route through several local towns and villages and will finish at Chepstow Race Course.

Here we intend to use this fantastic venue to spoil you with bigger and easier parking areas, more bands, loads more traders and stalls, and a great range of food outlets.  Covered seating will be available in the stands, so you can sit and listen to the bands while enjoying a drink, a bite to eat or just chat and watch the world go by.

New for this year. the Hoggin the Bridge ride, which is great in itself, will finish with a parade of bikes right through the very heart of the race course (no grass riding) giving all the riders a chance to show off their finery and giving all spectators a chance to see a really great spectacle.
The ride will then finish, again new for this year, on an all tarmac surface. Remember to take part in this unique spectacle you need to have registered, so go to our tickets page and join in.
Also, we will also be hosting a ride in bike show.  For those who enter, they will have the chance to not only show off their bike, but also win a prize.  As well as all this we hope to have an auto jumble on site, more details to follow........all in all this gives us a chance to thank you for your support of our charity fundraising event and give you a great day to remember.
This is a charity fundraising event open to all motorcyclists and for you to take part in the ride, along with some 3 to 4 thousand other bikes, all we ask for is a donation.

You can make a donation on-line, or alternatively print and complete the donation by post form for Hoggin' the Bridge 2014.

Donations will also be accepted on the day for those who want to see what the weather is like.
Donations can also be made at......

« on: 12 August 2014, 11:21:18 am »
Can anyone recommend a trick replacement fuel filler cap?

There are a few on Ebay, but I do like the Oberon ones, but they don't seem to do them for the gen 1 anymore; however I'm sure I've heared that the FJR1300 is the same as for the FZS1000...?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / She won't start... can anyone help!!!!!!
« on: 25 November 2013, 08:10:25 pm »
I went to start my Fazer (2002 gen 1 thou) this afternoon and it wouldn't start? which is unlike my Fazer... The last time I used it was Hogging the Bridge in October where it ran faultless. I also put a brand new battery on it that month.
The starter turns over nice and strong, but the engine doesn't catch. Initially I tried choke on / choke off, throttle on / throttle off.
After a lot of head scratching; I thought sod it and called the RAC. Unfortunately he also couldn't diagnose the problem fully either; however he did narrow it down and reckons it's the electrical system not fuel as first suspected. He checked for a spark and there wasn't one! He wiggled a few wires, checked the fuses, looked under the tank, fiddled with the fuel tap etc... etc...
Attempted to start it again and it starts... I thought great, it must have been a dodgy connection or something. After a few minutes I cut the engine. RAC man left, I donned my jacket and lid, turned the key. The starter spins nice and strong and nothing!!! the engine fails to start  :grumble . Eventually it does but now only on 2 cylinders. It then coughs and splutters and dies. I start it again; it struggles, then 2 cylinders again! It's difficult to explain without showing and hearing?
The RAC guy did say it could be the pickup sensor or maybe the META alarm or something...
Any ideas guys? I'm pulling my hair out...  :'(
Oh... another thing it does now too is the Fuel Pump runs a lot longer prior to starting, then when it has started the pump continues to run (sounds like a long frequency of clicking). I'm sure it never did this before.
Answers on a postcard Please...

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Gen1 losing power at top end!
« on: 30 September 2013, 11:51:19 am »
I went for a quick blast on Sunday. Whilst overtaking a car I hit a ton, at which point I lost power, the bike stopped pulling, the engine felt like it was choking and failed to continue accelerating! Under that speed it runs perfect.

I recently serviced the Exup and the servo still operates. I can't think what else it could be...

Any ideas???

General / Bike Insurance Repairs...
« on: 11 July 2013, 04:06:28 pm »
Once upon a time on Saturday 28th April was the Annual Fazer Meet at the NMCM (BRUM).
As most of you know Bri h and I had a bit of a coming together at the roundabout just before arriving. Subsequently a few days later both our steeds were taken away for repair. Brian’s to 4th Dimension and mine to BLD (Bikers Legal Defence).  :'(
After 4 weeks of both Insurance companies and brokers ‘not’ communicating, they finally liaised and started the repairing process.  :rolleyes

Bri h received his FZ1 back about 6 weeks later minus decals! He then tells me he had to go back 3 weeks later to have the decals put on…
Mine on the other hand is ‘still’ sat with BLD down in bloody Southampton!  :thumbdown
They’ve had it over 10 weeks now and despite receiving weekly phone calls telling me repairs are still on going, but they’re not progressing! I emailed them the other week expressing my dissatisfaction. My claims handler phoned me soon after to say one of his directors had been on the phone concerned with my comments and that it was the 3rd party insurers that were causing the delays. I thought ok and great, now thing will progress. :groan

I had a call a week later from their parts supervisor saying they couldn’t source a replacement set of aftermarket indicators. I had already told BLD several times from the beginning what make the indicators were, and other useful info knowing that if I didn’t tell them they may struggle. Obviously they never listened or took note!  :uhuh
After 5min of searching the internet I emailed him back with a link for them that same evening. It’s not that difficult surely?  :rolleyes

I then received a letter from BLD another week later saying there will be a ‘further’ delay as they’re having further problems sourcing more parts!
I emailed them back with disbelief! To which I got a response; the rear tail unit and rear light unit were due to arrive from ‘Japan’ around ‘28th July’!!! That will be ‘3 Months’ they would have had my bike! On top of that they then need to reassemble before they deliver it…  :grumble

Fuming is an understatement! Why could they not have ordered the parts and ironed out any foreseeable problems as soon as they knew my bike wasn’t going to be written off? (which was assessed by them only a few weeks after the accident.).
I made some parts enquiries myself and managed to source all new parts needed to fix my bike in the UK and I’d have my bike back on the road within 2 weeks. It’s not rocket science! And it wouldn’t cost no where near the £1500 BLD are charging!  :deal

I’ve missed out on so many bike meets, rideouts and events already this year and now the whole of July! And there’s nothing more I can do about it… They’ve got me by the short and curlys…  :moon

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Gen 1 Sports Rack wanted... :-/
« on: 08 May 2013, 01:46:25 pm »
Has anyone got an OEM / Original Yamaha Sports Rack for a FZS Fazer 1000 they'd like to sell me please?  ;)

My bikes with the Insurance for repair as some of you may already know after my little in incident at this years BRUM!

Unfortunately Yamaha no longer stock them; the gen 1 now being an obsolete model...  :\

Plan B would be to try and straighten & weld my bent rack...

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Leaking water/coolant from breather?
« on: 23 April 2013, 11:45:47 am »
Hi Guys...
I was on a rideout with the London foccers the other week at the Ace Cafe. It was pointed out to me half way through the ride that I was leaking water/coolant from the breather pipe (near my right foot peg)! I lost about 300ml.  :\
The general conclusion from the group was there was probably an air pocket in the system.
I squeezed and poked the coolant pipes as suggested the other day. I don't know, if this was the problem, if this has worked as the water leak happened after 100mile +/- run; however we were in traffic when it happened. I've had my 02 gen1 thou about 8yrs now, 50k miles in with a FSH and this has never happend before?  :'(

I plan to do the BRUM on Sunday, so any theories and/or advice would be much appreciated...  ;)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Gen1 Fuel Gauge Under reading!
« on: 01 May 2012, 11:31:40 am »
I had an argument with Merc early last year which almost wrote my gen 1 off (mainly cosmetic). When I got it back from the insurance company the fuel gauge underead by 1/4 tank!
I questioned this with them and they said they would take it back for a few weeks to diagnose and fix it. I could not afford not to be mobile for that time.
I believed it was the fuel sender & float in the tank and they agreed to send me a replacement.
After I received and fitted it - the fault was still there! I therefore decided to live with it.
Although now a year down the road it's really starting to frustrate me. Do you think it's the clocks / gauge? I'd rather not change them due to the mileage record etc... And/or can you able to calibrate / adjust the gauge needle reading?

Any advice / comments will be appreciated...

 ;)
