Success!  Ok, sorted the problem with the help of my mate. Wiring fault in the loom caused the fan to run all the time on switch on. There is a Green Black wire which runs from the Clocks to the relay. The green black was down to earth and causing the relay to switch on immediately the ignition came on. Rather than strip acres of loom we ran a new cable from the clocks multi-plug back to the relay, soldering each end and hey presto, Back to normal.
Hope this helps anyone with similar problems.

Now I just need to order a new back tyre for our touring holidays in Germany.

Right, I'm having a problem here. Changed the relay & thermo switch. No joy. However my friend reckons that the electronics in the clocks probably control the timer which switches the fan after start up. I'll start looking at the wiring to the clocks but before I start buying clocks has anyone got any info on this?
Frustrated!!!

Aah The clocks! Will try and measure the Thermo sensor, but have managed to get one on ebay for a tenner, just in case.

Ok, I have fitted new relay, but no difference. I want to try the Thermo next, can anyone give a clue where I can get one? They are a fortune at Yamaha. Also noticed from the wiring diagram there is a combination meter in the circuit. Anyone know what this does?

I run Pilot road 3 and have always had great performance from them. Good in the wet as well. Not tried the 4's yet but off to Germany in July so will trade up for that.

Hi Guys, hope someone can help? My coolant fan has started running as soon as the ignition is switched on and does not go out when put into gear. I've checked all the connections I can find and no corrosion evident. Anyone got suggestions what it might be?

Cheers guys, serviced the thing but still noisy. Now I'm thinking that there might be wear where it locates in the exhaust opposite the cable attachments, should there be a shim in there? Or maybe it is just slack cables although bloody difficult to get them right!
More advice please!
