General / Re: Ear plugs - recommendations??? Minerva any good???
« on: 17 June 2019, 04:15:49 pm »

Test rode a Thruxton on Saturday - 3 hours across Essex and Suffolk. Superb. Want one.

But after the ride my ears were RINGING. So I've decided I can't get one until I've found some hearing protection that works (which means another test ride :-)
I was using the same old disposable yellow foam plugs I've been using for decades but the extra wind noise (from having no fairing, I guess) was too much for them.

I'm looking at getting the Minerva custom-made BikePlugs at £115 fitted and supplied through SpecSavers - reviews? recommendations?

Cheers,
Dave
I wear custom made plugs too. Got mine from here and they're a great fit. They also do unfiltered ones which are slightly cheaper. https://www.ultimateear.com/products/motorcyclist-filtered-ear-plugs

LED is the way to go. Much brighter. Yes you will need to change the relay but the likes of M&P supply model specific LED relays and it is a 30 second job to change it.

Yay, someone else with an fz8,  few and far between but I love mine.
You can post pictures by clicking the camera and adding them straight from your phone or PC or whatever.
I'm not far from you, I'm near Newport.
Have to meet up sometime for a ride.
He hasn't been on here since December 22nd. :groan

Anyway, our cartoons and pictures are quite funny, you must admit  :D

Tories again putting their party before country.
But all parties do that. As I've said before, all Politicians are thieves and liars. All Politicians are in it for their own personal gain. There is not one Party or Politician who really gives a flying fuck about the hard working man on the street as long as they are doing very nicely out of it. The usual case of "Fuck you Jack, I'm alright."

a useless, dishonest, Prime Minister, who frankly is no longer in control of anything.
But that's a fair description of all Prime Ministers and Politicians......They're all thieves and liars.

The last time everything was manufactured from scratch in the same factory..... the British bike industry went down the toilet.
That's because the British bike industry kept all the profits and didn't reinvest anything in development and technology unlike the Japanese.

Only if you tell us which bit of Dyson is 'investing in the UK', and why Brexiteers listened to Jeremy Dyson (or Tim Martin for that matter) in the first place.
Think you mean James Dyson.  :rolleyes

He clearly has the UK's interests at heart.....
No he doesn't......but neither have lots of UK companies for a long time...... this is not something new.
I used to work for Hotpoint Creda many years ago and they ceased UK manufacturing in 2014 and moved to Hungary.
Clarks Shoes is another.....ceased UK manufacturing in 2005 but won't tell their customers where their production is.
None of these are anything to do with Brexit......it's all down to saving money with cheaper labour.

Meanwhile the Brexit rats leave the sinking ship as Dyson announces he is moving his head office to Singapore  :(
Highly unlikely that has anything to do with Brexit. He moved his entire manufacturing operation to Malaysia in 2002 so it was only a matter of time.

I had a 15 plate MT09 Tracer and the heated grips were brilliant. Both sides were consistent and I rarely used them on full because they were so warm. Oh.....and yes......the salesman is talking bollocks.

Went up to Halfrauds and tried to find a paint to match the frame on my FZ6 without luck :(

I can find ones that look similar, but I'm not sure the finish would match and it would probably annoy me more to have something almost, but not quite right and I really don't want to have to repaint the whole rear end...

Have you tried here ? http://www.rsbikepaint.com/en-gb/colours.php?setlocale=true

If it goes away when the clutch lever is pulled in then it sounds like normal thrust bearing rumble to me which is common on four cylinder bikes and nothing to worry about. I had it years ago on a Thundercat and was told that this is common by a Yamaha main dealer. I never worried about it again and put another 30k on the bike before I part-ex'd it.

Cheers all - well 'The Admiral' is at home now all tucked up and ready for tomorrow.
Dilligaff - have a refresher course on Monday and a BikeSafe course booked for the summer.
Thanks for the advice.
Here is a pic (I hope I've posted it correctly)
Bit of a pub quiz question - anyone who guesses why 'The Admiral' can give themselves a pat on the back :rolleyes
Named after Admiral Lord Fraser ?

It goes into the Treasury central pot, who then decide not to give it to local and county councils.
Ah, so they use it to line their own pockets as usual. Thieving twats !!

Lots of potholes near me with red rings drawn round them. Which means they have been noticed/reported, but they've been like that for months.
Exactly the same here too. Where, exactly, is our road tax being spent ? Surely it's supposed to be being spent on the roads !!

A rolling two hours of highly incriminating evidence.  I should bin the stupid thing.
Or learn to drive properly and responsibly.

Hmmm, I'm not so sure. I wonder what kind of situations those studies were carried out in? If there were only a few cars around, I might be more inclined to believe it, but when there are millions of the things everywhere, I think they might have less effect. Same with hi-viz. It has to have something to stand out against. If everyone is wearing it, surely that effect is reduced?

Let’s remove lights from all road vehicles and see what happens.

One key thing of daylight running lights is that nobody can drive off at night without any lights whatsoever.
No but the tail lights are not illuminated so the vehicle is not visible from the rear.

General / Re: London and the ULEZ
« on: 12 February 2018, 06:11:14 pm »
Just got this email from TFL.
In a nutshell, any bike registered before July 2007 will be liable to pay the ULEZ charge of £12.50 in the current Congestion zone next February (2019) and within the boundaries of the North & South Circular (proposed, by 2021)
Have a read to see what the mayor has up his sleeve
https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/environment/air-quality-consultation-phase-3b/?cid=airquality-consultation
And if you can, complete the online survey and tell him where to poke it !
some background here

We are consulting on the next stage of the Mayor, Sadiq Khan’s plan to help tackle London’s toxic air pollution, which contributes to thousands of early deaths in our city each year.

To have your say visit tfl.gov.uk/airquality-consultation

From 8 April 2019, the Mayor is introducing the Ultra Low Emission Zone in central London, replacing the T-Charge with an even tighter emission standards for diesel vehicles.

To help further reduce toxic emissions in London, the Mayor is also now proposing to:
    •   Extend these tighter emissions standards to the whole of London for lorries, buses and other heavy goods vehicles only in 2020
    •   Expand the ULEZ for all vehicles including cars, vans, motorbikes and minibuses up to the North and South circular roads in 2021

This consultation ends on 28 February 2018.
GC
Sounds like another Government money making scheme to me. How can it have anything to do with emissions if London Taxis are exempt ?? There are hundreds of thousands of them !! (nearly 300,000 at the last count).

Just switched to Bikesure (wish I hadn’t).
Bikesure has been slated on another forum for its' poor customer service. "Barry From Bikesure" has even registered as a member on that forum to tout for business but his customer service skills are zero too. I wouldn't touch Bikesure with a shitty stick.
