Anyone fitted a gear indicator? How long did it take and how difficult is it, thanks
-
I fitted one to a Gen 2 about 3 years ago. I took my time as I had never fitted one before but it was pretty simple and took me about an hour.
I fitted one of these. They are bike specific so just make sure you order the right one. https://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorcycle/gear-indicators/pzracing-geartronic-zero-plug-and-play-gear-indicator (https://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorcycle/gear-indicators/pzracing-geartronic-zero-plug-and-play-gear-indicator)

I installed one one on my S2 Fazer last year (2016). GIpro X type gear indicator by Healtech. Also has a shift light facility. Bit fiddlt to fit when working in the area around the abs unit, but if your bike doesnt have abs, then it should be straight plug and play. Im dead chuffed with it, worked as soon as installed and set, plug and play. Only slight downside is that if you ever disconnect he battery, the shift light defaults to 6k, and has to be reset back to your preference (mines 12k). I paid £99 and im well pleased with it.

Another with the PZRacing indicator. Took longer to make a bracket than to do the connections.

Cheers guys

Fitted the PZRacing unit to mine last year. It resets though when working on the bike (ignition on for awhile or battery disconnected) and seems awkward to reset - ride off and up through the gears and typically find sixth indicated with an 8 :rolleyes
-
+1 for the GIpro X - I fitted at same time as speedohealer (mine is downgeared) - easy to fit and both work a treat
-
I fitted one similar to this, about £15 of E-Bay, wiring diagram on page 2

Excuse my ignorance but what is the point of a gear indicator my ears and rev counter tell me if I need to change up or down.

Some eBay UK red LED gear indicators are now only £1.50, and some blue gear indicators are only £2.70, both including post and packing.

Oh, I see.
This is the cheapest computed gear indicator for the FZ1 at the moment (I think):

More cheap (in case you have never used Aliexpress, they are OK- have bought parts from them):
