General / Heating/Plumbing question
« on: 12 November 2015, 06:45:34 pm »
Are there any heat/plumbing engineers here?
I'm going on holiday over the Christmas period and I wondered what was the best setting for my heating in case it turns cold and pipes freeze. I have a high efficiency boiler and will be away for around 10 days.
My current thinking is to turn it to lowest setting and leave it to run 24/7.

Any advice would be welcome,
Cheers.

It means you don't have to listen to the Foccers till tomorrow!

Expect a bag of worms to be opened tomorrow, we shall have to listen to some Foc, promises, broken promises. Whoever you voted for, please remember that they  are all full of shit and will say or do anything for a vote.

PS: I used to be cynical, now I just don't give a shit!

First thought was a BB gun, but I thought that a bit harsh. Especially if it's a small dog. A Black Widow catapult should deal enough pain for it to shut up. Don't pull it back the whole way tho... Unless you like to kill small dogs!!!

(joking, before I start to get death threats from animal rights nut jobs)

Take care when you remove your waterproofs later as the odour seems to brew for quite a long time! I had forgotten an on bike, in waterproof chuff one time and on removing said clothing wretched... And wretched... And...

So sorry to hear of your loss pal. Lost my father to pancreatic cancer 5 years ago and still can't get over it.

I didn't think about it much before then, but since Dad died and having spoken to other people it's unbelievable how many families are affected by this horrible disease. Stay strong.

Marty.

I know this will vary greatly from region to region, but roughly what kind of money should I expect to pay for a very good, fuel efficient boiler to be supplied and fitted?

Sorry. I got my consecutive and my concurrent mixed up.

Still a disgrace though.

Sentences to run consecutively. So not six years as reported, but four. Take half off for good behaviour.

Disgusting.

If you are in Northern Ireland I can't recommend the North Antrim Coast highly enough. Love it and make the trip a couple of times a year. Mind you it only takes me around an hour to get there! Loads of coastal villages, not to mention friendly bikers!

NW200 is in May sadly, but quite a few other races during the summer if that's your thing.

You have an invitation from cork (about as far from here as it's possible to get in Ireland), so I'll extend one from the North, if you are close to here... Gimme a shout and I'll buy you a coffee.

Why is there so much diesel on the roads in wet conditions?

It scares the life out of me, but just how dangerous is it?

Not keen on riding in the dark if I can avoid it, especially the dazzle on my visor.

Bit of an aside, but what do you guys make of driving in fog? Was quite misty here this morning and I hate it! (Not the fog, I love Autumn) but the way it clags on the visor. I wish it would just rain!

Sorry Adie, was typing as you posted. Good advice m8. Look where you want to go.

As JXS says, the best bit of advice I got was to look where you want to go. If you are a little hard on a corner and fast approaching the verge, if you look at the verge and think oh )£&@, that's where you will go. If you look at the line you want to take... You should take it.

I also bought a great DVD called "Police Advanced Riding Techniques" by an ex police bike instructor called Mike Waite. Was very useful in explaining how to read roads, visual or vanishing point, road positioning etc... Also great tips on overtaking etc. totally recommend it, and it wasn't expensive if I recall.

Actually now I dug it out to find the guys name and proper title I think it might be worth another watch.

Enjoy your biking buddy, and stay safe!

Just watched last nights program too, awesome!

Plainly I have a bias for the Dunlop dynasty, but Guy Martin is a total legend IMO!

Can't wait to see tonight's prog :)

The fastest road race in the world!

Highlights on BBC NI tonight and tomorrow at 10.35.

Is it just local or do you guys get it too?

Got a pair of Alpinestars boots. Leather with goretex lining and find them pretty comfy all year.

Sadly on my way home tonight I was wearing workboots and Kevlar reinforced jeans. It was such a beautiful morning here lol... Soaked through on the waŷ home! Oops!

I guess that's like the old theory that if you had a big spike sticking out of the steering wheel of you car instead of a nice safe airbag...

I have been wondering for a while... These guys hang their legs off on braking. Now I understand that they do it  to change the balance of the bike as much or more than the "air brake" effect. But on right handers with the right leg hanging how do they, or indeed do they use the rear brake?

Is it hand operated? Is a balance shift more than enough to compensate for not using it at all?

Thoughts and ideas appreciated!
