how accurate are radar speed sign's
when on my bike or in the car reads 30mph these sign's say 28mph.
-
The ones that just flash the speed limit at you always seem to be on a hair trigger and light up even if you’re a few mph below.
The ones that actually give you a reading are pretty accurate, the speedo in most vehicles is set to err on the side of caution. Since the speedometer is based on the rate of wheel revolutions the accuracy will get worse as the tyres wear. :)
-
Vehicle speedos can be up to 10% out but only allowed to over read, so at a true 30mph, your speedo could read as high as 33mph.
As mentioned above, as your tyres wear, the speed on your speedo will increase by up to 3-4% whilst your true speed remains constant.

I tend to find they are pretty spot on. I have a speedo healer on my bike and it's set so that the speedo is pretty much 100% accurate and always seems to read the same speed as the signs. The car on the other hand I find is around 10% off all the way through.
Using the gps on the sat nav I can consistently do 10% more than displayed on the speedo and still be within the limit on the gps.
Accounting for the old 10%+2 myth I can actually do around 85mph on my speedo before I'm 'actually' speeding

Depends whether it's accompanied by a smiley face :)
Or a sad face :(

As far as I've experienced, the ones that actually give a speed seem to be pretty accurate based on what my Sat Nav says.
However the ones that just flash if you're over the limit often seem to be set deliberately low, eg there's one on the A32 which has flashed to warn me that I am "over" the 30mph limt when my speedo has been showing 30mph and Sat Nav has been reading about 28mph...

Agree with all of the above comments :lurk
