I use a mini foot pump as they’re more compact than the inflators. They’re about a tenner on eBay and Amazon.

I’m hoping that’s the case! If so, I might be able to get away with wiring in a switch for the camera instead of running it off the ignition. Otherwise it’s time for a new immobiliser.

My immobiliser doesn’t get on with my dash cam.

Yesterday I finished fitting an Innovv C5 dash cam to my bike. The wiring was simple enough; a constant live direct from the +ve battery terminal, an earth to the -ve terminal, and a switched live which I took from the fuse box, also taking this opportunity to move the live for my heated grips off the battery and onto the fuse box too.
I went for a test ride this morning any it was all fine, but going to work I stopped on the way, and the bike wouldn’t start again.
Like usual, I blipped the fob to deactivate the alarm, switched the ignition on, but when I hit the starter everything went dead. I blipped the fob again, and got the tone that told me the alarm had been tripped.
Then, nothing. No alarm, no lights, nowt, like the battery was totally flat. Immediately I suspected the camera, (funnily that was working, which it shouldn’t have been with the keys in my pocket!)  so took the wires off the battery and the immobiliser started to work.
I disarmed it, and was able to fire the bike up straight away.

So, do you reckon the extra voltage load from the switched live in the fuse box made the immobiliser think something was up, and kick in?
Or is there another explanation?

Anyone tried a recent ish (2007+) XJ6 Divvy? Any good? Looks cheap and cheerful, but will it be too disappointing compared to FZS600?

Yeah, I had one for a day while my Fazer was being serviced. I was nodding off before I hit 3rd.

That people are saying they stick with their Fazers says a hell of a lot about how good these bikes actually are!

Same boat as you, and with this damn ULEZ coming in April 2019, I'm forced to swap for something else as I commute daily into centre. But I don't really have space/funds for commuter bike + weekend fun bike.


Like you, I like the balance of power, economy, comfort and practicality. Other things that put me off replacements is the lack of tank range - I'm gonna really miss getting 230 miles between fills.


I've looked at:
FZ6 S2 - obvious option. Seem to be fetching £2.5-3k odd recently.
CBF600s - felt a bit more torquey, but less top end power. Also very bland looking, but are cheap
SV650 k7 - possibly an option, but 73 bhp on paper and range of only 160 miles.
ER6 - meh, basic learner bike, too weedy and budget.
Gladius - ditto, even if just a cheap updated SV650.
CBR600F - nice option, but insurance is silly for inner London postcode (£1.2k odd!)
GSX650F - looks alright, but bit on heavy side, 150 mile range, basically a bandit in nice fairing.
BMW F800S - Seems a nice practical commuter, but reports are it can be rather tame/bland to ride (especially compared to FZS).
MT07 - has the looks, but looks a bit whimpy on power compared to FZS600 and bit dinky for tall rider.
MT09 - looks fun, but too pricy still - so insurance is too high in London.
Tracer - too wide for London computing... Seen some poor reports on longevity (corroded leaking oil pump on front of engine after 2 years!)
Street Triple - Silly insurance in London.


So yeah, I'm still no closer to a decision and time is ticking on...

My thoughts exactly! I’ve researched a good number of bikes (a lot are on your list) and came to similar conclusions. I’d love an FZ1S if fuel economy wasn’t a consideration too.
The only other bike that comes close is the BMW F800gt which can be picked up for less than £5k now.

As far as I’m aware, a vehicle won’t cut it out at all if driven away from the transponder. It’s a safety thing. What you’re best doing is having a transponder separate to the ignition key, keeping it in your pocket, and hitting the kill switch at the first sign of trouble.

Got to admit I’m tempted with a street triple for my next bike, but having seen the new Duke 790 the choice will be even more difficult!

Before I buy one, can anyone tell me the diameter of the axle hole on the fz6 bracket? If it’s bigger than the fzs600 then it’s a non-starter.

The fzs1000 blue spot isn’t a straight swap as such, you need to file a slight amount off the standard 600 bracket and add some washers to line it up with the disc. Apparently they’re far less prone to seizing which is why I converted mine. Still seized though, but I do ride all year round.
I did think about just flipping the bracket, but there’s no way to hold it in place.
I might buy the fz6 bracket just to see if it fits with regards to the axle size, spacing etc. Then if my blue spot caliper fits, all well and good, if not, I’ll buy an fz6 caliper. I’m sure a decent mechanic could weld an aluminium block onto the swingarm too.

I’m 6’1” with a 35” leg (yeah I kind of look like that green one-eyed fucker in Monsters inc.) and find my 600 a bit cramped on the knees over long distances.

It's the same old problem. Cost.
Electric bikes aren't going to take off until they're cheaper, and they're not going to be cheaper until they take off.

Reading online reviews of new bikes like the MT10 and Z900, and in the comments below the article someone ALWAYS puts "it looks like a Transformer!"
