FZS600 Fazer / Re: What have you done to your FZS600 bike today
« on: 22 May 2017, 09:58:39 am »
According to what I can decipher there is no left/right headlamp for Japan.

This site lists 4YR-84310-00-00 as part number, with 5DM-84310-00-00 as the replacing headlamp.

https://en.impex-jp.com/catalogs/moto/yamaha-other/FZ-400/31791/Headlight__assy-971876.html

The GBR headlamp uses the part code 5DM843101000, while the rest are 5DM843100000.

I've hooked up the 400 headlamp to a battery and tried to see the pattern.. But I can't really make out if it's left hand side vs right hand side. Is there an easy test I can do to check? I can't find the serial number on the headlamp either. All the numbers are identical to the one installed on the bike already. (but the reflectors and bulbs are obviously different.

I ordered the part from Russia. So I HOPE that its a right hand side headlamp. I live in Norway. If not i've got a headlamp for sale 😁

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Knocking from chain, worse when turning
« on: 15 May 2017, 08:26:46 pm »
Last time I adjusted the chain I didn't do it properly... I just picked a spot and began adjusting to roughly 30-40mm.
I now found the tightest part of the chain and measured, it was 20mm :O

Adjusted it to 35mm, sound is gone :)

But there probably is a tight spot somewhere along the chain, and one o-ring on the master link has been damaged, so it's leaking red stuff from it :/

Probably due for a new chain anyway.

Could it be that the chain is too tight?
I know it's not too loose, but perhaps I tightened it too much...

So the bike has developed a knocking-"feel" from the chain, and it gets worse whenever I turn hard left/right in slow speeds.

Could it be anything other than the need for a new chain?

Perhaps a mod would like to chime in? I can't even see the mods on the facebook group...

FZS600 Fazer / Relay mod for improved original headlight output
« on: 09 May 2017, 09:18:40 pm »
I remember reading another thread somewhere that the voltage was too low for the H4 bulb to operate optimally.
So I bought some stuff and got to work. Total 20 quid perhaps.

Full gallery of install available here: http://imgur.com/a/BiB8o

Before and after the mod with same camera exposure. Much larger area and stronger light.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Oil & Oil Filter change.
« on: 05 May 2017, 09:17:44 pm »
Regarding alternative methods on the oil filter, fust buy an oil filter socket, it makes it so much easier to change the filter.
On another note, for you guys with un-original downpipes (motad/delvic), do they make the oil filter change harder?

Also for the sump plug, these are worth their weight in gold:

64
Just measured my car as well, 13-14volts no problems at the light...

65
I remember a post but I cannot find it regarding the voltage for the headlight. This person did a mod and upped his voltage to the headlamp and got better light.
I measured mine today and it was maximum 11.5volts on the bright beam while active, while the bike was charging a good 14-14.3 volts.

The reasoning is that the gauge of the wires/contacts in the button cluster is too thin to properly power the lamp.
Has anyone in here done this mod? And how would I go about performing this mod?

Ah yes, forgot to mention that I already changed for a new DNA air filter.

Thanks for confirming that it's around where it should be :)

FZS600 Fazer / Idle compare
« on: 04 May 2017, 09:42:35 am »
Hello,

How would you compare my running idle with an optimal setting?

I have tried balancing the carbs, the spark plugs are very new (NKG CR9E).

(How do I embed video?)

Dont know if this is the right place but...

Did I get kicked/blocked from the group? My facebook account is under the name Kjartan Stream. Suddenly the group is hidden from me. Got no messages (or warnings if I actually did anything) from any admin? I see my name in a comment and it has a grey circle in front of it...

I measured mostly because I have no history on the bike. No known last service or anything, just the milage.

FZS600 Fazer / Valve clearances
« on: 24 March 2017, 09:27:06 am »
Just checked the valves on my 2000 FZS 600. 57000km. All within spec. Altough Cylinder 1 Exhaust was at minimum. And Cylinder 2 showing some higher numbers on exaust.

Can anyone explain a little bit why C2's exhaust is a lot higher than C1 and C4? Should i check again in ... 15000km instead of next 42000? Is it possible that they would go faster out of spec seeing this? Can C1 Exhaust go below spec soon? What's standard from factory, high or low?

What I'm asking really is how do valves live their small little lives :)

Code: [Select]

           Cy1        Cy2        Cy3        Cy4
Exhaust  21 | 21    27 | 27    25 | 26    23 | 21
         -------    -------    -------    -------
Intake   15 | 16    13 | 13    13 | 13    14 | 14

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Had to refill, burning oil? Normal?
« on: 15 August 2016, 08:35:02 am »
Bah, I didn't see the bumps on the right side when changing the oil the first time. I topped up to the top of the sight glass. Hopefully it was not too much and that it didn't damage anything.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Had to refill, burning oil? Normal?

As pointed out, it's the dots to the right of the window which are the markers, not the glass itself.
So in that photo the oil level is actually right on the upper level BUT, this is only correct if you have started the engine, switched off, then let it settle for a minute?
The window looks too clean to me, so if you haven't done this then it's still too low. Make sure the bike is on level ground on the centre stand as well.

This is correct. Let it run for a couple of minutes, turned it off and waited.

Filled up to midway in the sight glass. Going to keep an aye on it.
