Hello peeps, recently whilst doing an oil change and using the correct removal tool it rounded off the end of the filter. Am wondering whether I should have let it cool down more before trying to remove it or the obvious and not nip it up so tight but the damage has been done now so has anyone also had this problem and how did you get round it ? Please don't tell me to stick a screwdriver in it.

I looked into this too but drew a blank. Short of getting the v35 pannier rack and making it fit somehow I dont know. It's a shame as imo the v35 panniers look much sleeker and more modern. I have seen them on a gen 2 but not a gen 1.

How am I doing it. Well for starters going easy on the throttle but have had a few full throttle moments as well. secondly when I fill up I absolutely brim it, can take ages But most importantly forget about the natural urge to fill up when the light comes on and keep checking the old fashioned way by looking in the tank and giving it a little slosh around . When you think you are dangerously low according to the gauge you'll be amazed at how much is still left in the tank when you look. Give it a try. I find it quite an amusing game to play and would love to see someone beat my record. A measured 1/2 L of fuel carried with you towards the end gives you the confidence to push it that bit further.

Got the chance to max my bike today as I wanted to see how fitting a gen 2 touring screen affected the top speed. As i tucked in and my speed increased my r/h/s mirror folded back. It reminded me of the veyron when it all hunkers down and spoilers lower to make it more slippery. It's only started to do this since it took a direct hit from a pigeon at 3 figure speeds but I thought what a pointless but pretty cool mod. Am now on the lookout for a kamakazi pigeon to take one for the l/h/s

I put the nozzle in the tank and just kept squeezing the trigger until all the air in the tank was gone. It takes a while as you think its full but the level drops allowing you to squirt in a bit more. My light came on at 180 miles and from then on I was gentle with the throttle. 76 miles on reserve, for me thats handy to know it can do that. Btw, I agree with you fireblake it certainly would be hard to find a modern replacement.

Well said Fireblake, too many fingerwaggers around for my liking. We've all took unessessary risks in our life. It's what sharpens our senses and makes you feel alive. Reminds me of the time at Cyprus airport when some safety concious gentleman asked me if I thought it was sensible to let my little girl climb a tree. FFS didn't we all climb trees as kids. Admittedly they all were'nt on the runway.

Dryrob I was referring to the Olympics in general.....You know, tennants being evicted because well off landlords can charge extortionate rents during the games, several places in London where you can drive 3 lanes into 2 straight into a choice of being fined for a bus lane or Olympic lane, trains running extra time reducing engineering hours leaving no time for maintenance and many thousands of people out of work, stratford and newham practicly becoming a no go area unless you apply for a permit, westfield carparks closed weeks ago affecting all the retail businesses, the joke of security guards employed can't even speak English, not to mention the billions of pounds poured into it all which ultimately we as tax payers are paying for. In a world recession where we are all being screwed this sort of extravagence seems a little crazy to me and as you can imagine am not feeling the Olympic spirit. Rant over and BBrown ....just because you don't , doesn't mean you can't
